1 And it came to pass, after a time, in the days of wheat-harvest, that Samson went to visit his wife, with a kid, and he saidI will go in unto my wife, in the chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.
1 Porém sucedeu que, tempo depois, na época da colheita do trigo, Sansão visitou a sua esposa com um cabrito; e ele disse: Entrarei à minha esposa dentro da câmara. Porém, o seu pai não permitiu que ele entrasse.
2 And her father saidI, thought, that thou didst, hate, her, so I gave her to thy companion,Is not, her younger sister, fairer than she? Pray let her be thine, in her stead.
2 E o pai dela disse: Em verdade, eu pensei que tu a tinhas odiado sobremaneira, por isso eu a dei ao teu companheiro; não é mais bela do que ela a sua irmã mais moça? Toma-a, rogo-te, em lugar dela.
3 And Samson said of them, I shall be more blameless, this time, than the Philistines,though I should do them a mischief.
3 E Sansão disse, a respeito deles: Agora, serei mais inculpável do que os filisteus, mesmo que lhes cause desagrado.
4 So Samson went, and caught three hundred jackals,and took torches, and turned tail to tail, and put one torch between the two tails, in the midst.
4 E Sansão foi e capturou trezentas raposas, e tomou tições, e virou-as cauda com cauda, e pôs um tição no meio das duas caudas.
5 And, when he had set fire to the torches, he let them go into the standing corn of the Philistines,and set fire, both to the stack of sheaves and to the standing corn, and besides to the olive plantation.
5 E depois de haver acendido os tições, ele as deixou entrar no cereal crescido dos filisteus, e queimou tanto os feixes, como também o cereal crescido, com os vinhedos e as oliveiras.
6 Then said the PhilistinesWho hath done this? And they saidSamson, son-in-law of the Timnite, because he hath taken his wife, and given her to his companion. So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father, with fire.
6 Então, os filisteus disseram: Quem fez isto? E responderam: Sansão, o genro do timnita, porque ele havia tomado a sua esposa e a havia entregado ao seu companheiro. E os filisteus subiram, e atearam fogo nela e em seu pai.
7 And Samson said to them, Though ye do the like of this, yet will I be avenged upon you, and, afterwards, will I cease.
7 E Sansão lhes disse: Embora vós tenhais feito isto, contudo, me vingarei de vós, e depois disso, cessarei.
8 So he smote them, leg on thigh, with a great smiting,and went down and dwelt in a cleft of the crag Etam.
8 E ele os feriu no quadril e na coxa com um massacre mui grande; e desceu e habitou no cume da rocha de Etã.
9 Then went up the Philistines, and encamped in Judah,and were spread abroad in Lehi.
9 Então os filisteus subiram e acamparam em Judá, e se espalharam em Leí.
10 And the men of Judah said, Wherefore have ye come up against us? And they saidTo bind Samson, are we come up, to do unto him as he hath done unto us.
10 E os homens de Judá disseram: Por que subistes vós contra nós? E eles responderam: Para amarrar Sansão subimos nós, para fazer com ele como ele fez conosco.
11 Then went down three thousand men out of Judah, unto the cleft of the crag Etam, and said unto SamsonKnowest thou not that the Philistines are lording it over us? What, then, is this thou hast done to us? And he said unto them, As they have done to me, so, have I done to them.
11 Então, três mil homens de Judá foram para o cume da rocha de Etã, e disseram a Sansão: Não sabes tu que os filisteus são governantes sobre nós? O que é isto que nos fizeste? E ele lhes disse: Tal como eles fizeram comigo, também o fiz com eles.
12 And they said to himTo bind thee, are we come down, to deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said to them, Swear to me, that ye will not fall upon me, yourselves.
12 E eles lhe disseram: Descemos para te amarrar para que possamos te entregar na mão dos filisteus. E Sansão lhes disse: Jurai-me que vós mesmos não caireis sobre mim.
13 And they answered him, sayingNay; but we will, bind, thee, and deliver thee into their hand, but we will not, put thee to death. So they bound him with two new ropes, and took him up from the crag.
13 E eles lhe falaram, dizendo: Não, porém te amarraremos firmemente e te entregaremos na mão deles; mas, seguramente, não te mataremos. E eles o amarraram com duas cordas novas, e fizeram-no subir desde a rocha.
14 He, was coming in as far as Lehi, and, the Philistines, came shouting to meet him,when the Spirit of Yahweh came suddenly over him, and the ropes that were upon his arms became as threads of flax which have been ignited with fire, so that his bonds melted from off his hands.
14 E quando ele chegou a Leí, os filisteus bradaram contra ele; e o Espírito do SENHOR veio poderosamente sobre ele, e as cordas que estavam sobre os seus braços se tornaram como o linho queimado ao fogo, e as suas ataduras se soltaram das suas mãos.
15 Then found he the jawbone of an ass newly-slain,so he thrust forth his hand, and took it, and smote therewith, a thousand men.
15 E ele encontrou uma mandíbula nova de um jumento, e estendeu a sua mão, e a tomou, e com ela matou mil homens.
16 And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass,have I piled them up in heaps! With the jawbone of an ass, have I smitten a thousand men!
16 E Sansão disse: Com a mandíbula de um jumento, pilhas sobre pilhas, com a queixada de um jumento eu matei mil homens.
17 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand,and called the name of that place, Ramath-lehi.
17 E sucedeu que, quando ele terminou de falar, arremessou a mandíbula longe da sua mão, e chamou aquele lugar Ramate-Leí.
18 And he was sore athirst, so he cried unto Yahweh, and said, Thou thyself, hast given, into the hand of thy servant, this great salvation,and, now, must I die of thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?
18 E ele estava extremamente sedento, e clamou ao SENHOR, e disse: Tu deste este grande livramento na mão do teu servo e, agora morrerei eu de sede, e cairei na mão dos incircuncisos?
19 So then God clave open the hollow that is in Lehi, and there came therefrom water, and he drank, and his spirit came back, and he revived,for this cause, called he the name thereofAin-hakkore, which is in Lehi, until this day.
19 Porém, Deus abriu um lugar oco que estava na mandíbula, e dali jorrou água; e depois de beber, o seu espírito retornou, e ele reviveu; por isso ele chamou aquele lugar En-Hacoré, que é Leí até este dia.
20 And he judged Israel, in the days of the Philistines, twenty years.
20 E ele julgou Israel nos dias dos filisteus por vinte anos.
