Daniel 1
Rotherham Version (ROTH) vs NVT
1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Jerusalem, and laid siege against it;
1 No terceiro ano do reinado de Jeoaquim, em Judá, Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, veio a Jerusalém e cercou a cidade.
2 and the Lord gave into his hand Jehoiakim king of Judah, and a part of the vessels of the house of God, and he brought them into the land of Shinar, into the house of his gods,and, the vessels, brought he into the treasure-house of his gods.
2 O Senhor lhe deu vitória sobre Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, e permitiu que levasse para a terra da Babilônia alguns dos utensílios sagrados do templo de Deus. Nabucodonosor os colocou na casa do tesouro de seu deus.
3 Then did the king give word to Ashpenaz, the chief of his eunuchs,that he should bring in, of the sons of Israel, even of the seed royal, and of the nobles,
3 O rei ordenou que Aspenaz, o chefe de seus oficiais, trouxesse ao palácio alguns dos jovens israelitas da família real e de outras famílias da nobreza.
4 youths in whom was no blemish, but comely of countenance, and skilful in all wisdom, and possessed of knowledge, and able to impart instruction, and who had vigour in them, to stand in the palace of the king,and that they should be taught the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
4 Disse o rei: “Escolha somente rapazes saudáveis e de boa aparência, que sejam instruídos em diversas áreas do conhecimento, que tenham entendimento e bom senso e sejam capacitados para servir no palácio real. Ensine a esses jovens a língua e a literatura da Babilônia”.
5 And the king appointed them the provision of each day upon its day, out of the delicacies of the king and out of the wine which he drank, and so to let them grow three years,and, at the end thereof, that they should stand before the king.
5 O rei determinou que recebessem, de suas próprias cozinhas, uma porção diária de alimento e vinho. Os rapazes seriam treinados durante três anos e depois passariam a servir ao rei.
6 Now there were, among them, out of the sons of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah;
6 Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias, todos da tribo de Judá, estavam entre os escolhidos.
7 and the ruler of the eunuchs gave them names,yea he gave to Daniel the name of Belteshazzar, and to Hananiah of Shadrach, and to Mishael of Meshach, and to Azariah of Abed-nego.
7 O chefe dos oficiais lhes deu novos nomes babilônios: Daniel passou a ser chamado de Beltessazar; Hananias, de Sadraque; Misael, de Mesaque; Azarias, de Abede-Nego.
8 But Daniel laid it upon his heart, that he would not defile himself with the delicacies of the king, nor with the wine which he drank,therefore sought he of the ruler of the eunuchs, that he might not defile himself.
8 Daniel, porém, decidiu não se contaminar com a comida e o vinho que o rei lhes tinha dado. Pediu permissão ao chefe dos oficiais para não comer esses alimentos, a fim de não se contaminar.
9 But, although God had brought Daniel into lovingkindness and tender compassion, before the ruler of the eunuchs,
9 Deus havia feito que o chefe dos oficiais mostrasse compaixão e simpatia a Daniel.
10 yet said the ruler of the eunuchs unto Daniel, I do fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your food and your drink,for why should he see your faces more sad than those of the youths of your own age? so should ye bring me under the penalty of mine own head unto the king.
10 Apesar disso, Aspenaz disse: “Tenho medo de meu senhor, o rei. Ele determinou o alimento que vocês devem comer e o vinho que devem beber. Se ficarem com a aparência abatida em comparação com os outros rapazes de sua idade, temo que o rei mande cortar minha cabeça”.
11 Then said Daniel, unto the overseer whom the ruler of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
11 Daniel falou com o assistente designado pelo chefe dos oficiais para cuidar dele, de Hananias, Misael e Azarias.
12 I pray theeprove thy servants, ten days,and let them give us vegetable food, that we may eat, and water that we may drink:
12 “Faça uma experiência conosco durante dez dias”, disse. “Dê-nos apenas legumes para comer e água para beber.
13 then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenances of the youths who have been eating the delicacies of the king,and, as thou shalt see, deal thou with thy servants.
13 Terminados os dez dias, compare nossa aparência com a dos outros rapazes que comem a comida do rei. Depois, decida de acordo com o que você vir.”
14 So then he hearkened unto them, according to this word,and proved them ten-days;
14 O assistente concordou com a sugestão e fez a experiência com eles durante dez dias.
15 and, at the end of ten days, their countenances appeared more comely, and fatter in flesh,than any of the youths who had been eating the delicacies of the king.
15 Passados os dez dias, Daniel e seu três amigos pareciam mais saudáveis e bem nutridos que os outros rapazes que se alimentavam da comida do rei.
16 Thus it came about that the overseer continued taking away their delicacies, and the wine appointed them to drink,and kept on giving them vegetable food.
16 Depois disso, o assistente só lhes dava legumes em vez da comida e do vinho servidos aos outros.
17 And, as for these four youths, God, gave them, knowledge and skill, in all learning and wisdom,and, Daniel, had discernment, in all visions and dreams.
17 Deus concedeu aos quatro rapazes aptidão incomum para entender todos os aspectos da literatura e da sabedoria, e a Daniel concedeu a capacidade especial de interpretar sonhos e visões.
18 Now, at the end of the days after which the king had given word to bring them in, then did the ruler of the eunuchs bring them in, before Nebuchadnezzar.
18 Ao término do período de treinamento ordenado pelo rei, o chefe dos oficiais levou todos os rapazes a Nabucodonosor.
19 So then the king, spake with them, and there was not found, from among them all, one like unto Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,therefore stood they before the king;
19 O rei conversou com eles, e nenhum o impressionou tanto quanto Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias. E, assim, passaram a servir ao rei.
20 and, in any matter of wisdom and discernment as to which the king, enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the sacred scribesthe magicians, who were in all his realm.
20 Sempre que o rei os consultava sobre alguma questão que exigia sabedoria e discernimento, observava que eles eram dez vezes mais capazes que todos os magos e encantadores de seu reino.
21 Now Daniel continued, until the first year of Cyrus the king.
21 Daniel continuou no palácio até o primeiro ano do reinado de Ciro.
