1 And the war between the house of Saul and the house of David was prolonged,and, David, waxed stronger and stronger, and, the house of Saul, became weaker and weaker.
1 Prolongou-se por muito tempo a guerra entre a casa de Saul e a de Davi. Mas, à medida que o poder de Davi ia-se fortificando, a casa de Saul ia-se enfraquecendo cada vez mais.
2 And there were born unto David, sons, in Hebron,and it came to press thatHis firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam, the Jezreelitess;

3 And his second Chileab, by Abigail, wife of Nabal the Carmelite, And the third Absolom, son of Maachah, daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur;
3 Queleab, o segundo, de Abigail, viúva de Nabal, o carmelita; Absalão, o terceiro, filho de Maaca, filha de Tolmai, rei de Gessur;
4 And the fourth Adonijah, son of Higgith,And the fifth Shephatiah, son of Abital;
4 o quarto, Adonias, filho de Hagit; Safatia, o quinto, filho de Abital,
5 And the sixth Ithream, by Eglah wife of David. These, were born unto David, in Hebron.
5 e o sexto Jetraão, filho de Egla, mulher de Davi. Estes foram os filhos que nasceram a Davi em Hebron.
6 And it came to pass, while the war continued between the house of Saul and the house of David, that, Abner, shewed himself courageous for the house of Saul.
6 Enquanto durou a guerra entre a casa de Saul e a de Davi, Abner teve autoridade na casa de Saul.
7 Now, Saul, had a concubine, whose name, was Rizpah daughter of Aiah,and said unto Abner, Why, wentest thou in, unto my fathers concubine?
7 Ora, Saul tinha uma concubina chamada Resfa, filha de Aia. Isboset disse a Abner: Por que te aproximaste da concubina de meu pai?
8 And it provoked Abner greatly, on account of the words of Ish-bosheth, and he saidAm I, the head of the dogs, that pertain unto Judah? To-day, would I deal in lovingkindness with the house of Saul thy father, towards his brethren, and towards his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David,and yet thou hast charged upon me the transgression of the woman, today.
8 Abner indignou-se com estas palavras de Isboset e disse: Sou porventura uma cabeça de cão a serviço de Judá? Enquanto neste momento trabalho pela casa de Saul, teu pai, pelos seus irmãos e seus amigos, não os deixando cair nas mãos de Davi, vens tu acusar-me de pecado com esta mulher?
9 So, may God do unto Abner, and, so, may he add to him,if, as Yahweh hath sworn unto David, even so, I deal not with him;
9 Deus me trate com o maior rigor, se eu não procurar para Davi tudo o que o Senhor lhe prometeu,
10 by turning over the kingdom from the house of Saul,and establishing the throne of David, over Israel and over Judah, from Dan, even unto Beer-sheba.
10 a saber, tirar a realeza da casa de Saul e firmar o trono de Davi sobre Israel e sobre Judá, desde Dã até Bersabéia!
11 And he could no further answer Abner, a word,because he feared him.
11 Isboset não soube o que responder a Abner, porque o temia.
12 So Abner sent messengers unto David, on the spot, sayingWhose, is the land? Saying Solemnise thy covenant with me; and lo! my hand, shall be with thee, to bring round unto thee, all Israel.
12 Abner enviou então mensageiros a Davi, para dizer-lhe: De quem é a terra? Faze aliança comigo e eu te darei mão forte para reunir em torno de ti todo o Israel.
13 And he saidGood! I, will solemnise with thee a covenant,but, one thing, must I ask of thee, sayingThou shalt not see my face, except thou have brought in Michal, Sauls daughter, when thou comest to see my face.
13 Davi respondeu: Está bem; farei aliança contigo, mas com uma condição: não te apresentarás diante de mim sem trazer contigo Micol, a filha de Saul, quando vieres ver-me.
14 And David sent messengers unto Ish-bosheth son of Saul, saying,Give up my wife, Michal, whom I espoused to myself, for a hundred foreskins of Philistines.
14 Davi enviou mensageiros a Isboset, filho de Saul, para dizer-lhe: Devolve a minha mulher Micol, que desposei ao preço de cem prepúcios de filisteus.
15 So Ish-bosheth sent and took her from her husband,from Paltiel, son of Laish.
15 Isboset ordenou que a tirassem de seu marido, Faltiel, filho de Lais,
16 And her husband went along with her, weeping as he went behind her, as far as Behurim,when Abner said unto himGo, return. And he returned.
16 que a acompanhou chorando até Bahurim. Ali, Abner disse-lhe: Volta para a tua casa. E ele voltou.
17 Then had Abner, speech, with the elders of Israel, saying,In times past, ye were seeking David, to be king over you.
17 Abner pôs-se em contato com os anciãos de Israel e disse-lhes: Já faz tempo que desejais ter Davi por rei.
18 Now, therefore, act,for Yahweh, spake unto David, saying, By the hand of David my servant, will I save my people Israel, out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.
18 Fazei-o, pois, agora, porque o Senhor disse de Davi: por meio de Davi, meu servo, livrarei o meu povo de Israel da mão dos filisteus e de todos os seus inimigos.
19 And Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin, and Abner also went to speak in the ears of David, in Hebron, all that was pleasing in the eyes of Israel, and in the eyes of all the house of Benjamin.
19 Abner, que havia dito a mesma coisa aos benjaminitas, foi a Hebron para informar Davi de tudo o que fora aceito por Israel e por toda a casa de Benjamim.
20 So, when Abner came in unto David, in Hebron, and, with him, twenty men, David made, for Abner, and for the men who were with him, a banquet.
20 E apresentou-se a Davi, em Hebron, acompanhado de vinte homens. Davi deu um banquete a Abner e seus companheiros.
21 Then said Abner unto DavidI will verily arise and go, and gather together unto my lord the king, all Israelthat they may solemnise with thee a covenant, so shalt thou reign over all that thy soul desireth. And David let Abner go, and he departed in peace.
21 Disse então Abner a Davi: Irei para reunir ao redor de meu senhor, o rei, todos os israelitas; farão aliança contigo e reinarás sobre toda a terra que quiseres. Davi despediu Abner, que partiu tranqüilamente.
22 And lo! the servants of David, and Joab, came in from a raid, and, great spoil, brought they in with them; but, Abner, was not with David in Hebron, for he had let him go, and he had departed in peace.
22 Entretanto, os homens de Davi voltavam com Joab de uma expedição, trazendo uma grande presa. {Abner não estava mais com Davi em Hebron, porque Davi o tinha despedido e ele partira em paz.}
23 When, Joab, and all the host that was with him, had come in, then told they Joab, saying, Abner son of Ner hath been in unto the king, and he hath let him go, and he hath departed in peace.
23 E, voltando Joab com toda a sua tropa, disseram-lhe que Abner, filho de Ner, viera ter com o rei, e este o deixara ir em paz.
24 Then Joab came in unto the king, and saidWhat hast thou done? Lo! Abner came in unto thee. Wherefore is it that thou didst let him go, so that he is clean departed?
24 Joab foi ter com o rei e disse-lhe: Que fizeste? Abner, filho de Ner, veio a ti; por que o deixaste partir?
25 Thou knowest Abner son of Ner, that, to deceive thee, he came,and to take knowledge of thy going out, and thy coming in, and to take knowledge of all that thou art doing.
25 Tu o conheces; {bem sabes que} é para enganar-te, para espiar tuas idas e vindas e sondar tudo o que fazes.
26 And, when Joab had come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, and brought him back from the well of Sirah,but, David, knew it not.
26 Deixando Davi, Joab mandou emissários atrás de Abner, que o fizeram voltar do poço de Sira, sem que Davi o soubesse.
27 So Abner returned to Hebron, and Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate, to speak with him quietly,and then smote him there, in the belly, that he died, for the blood of Asahel the brother of Joab.
27 Quando Abner chegou a Hebron, Joab, tomou-o à parte, para dentro da porta, como para falar-lhe em particular, e feriu-o ali mortalmente no ventre, vingando o sangue de seu irmão Asael.
28 And, when David heard of it, after that, he saidGuiltless, am I and my kingdom before Yahweh, unto times age-abiding,of the blood of Abner son of Ner.
28 Quando Davi soube do acontecido, exclamou: Sou inocente, eu e o meu reino, diante do Senhor, do sangue de Abner, filho de Ner!
29 Let it be hurled upon the head of Joab, and against all his fathers house,and let there not fail from the house of Joabone that hath an issue, or a leper, or one that leaneth on a crutch, or that falleth by the sword, or that lacketh bread.
29 Que ele caia sobre a cabeça de Joab e de toda a sua família! Não faltem jamais em sua casa homens atacados de sarna ou lepra, que trabalhem no fuso, caiam pela espada, definhem de fome!
30 Thus, Joab and Abishai his brother, slew Abner,because he had caused the death of Asahel their brother, in Gibeon, in the battle.
30 Joab e seu irmão Abisaí tinham assassinado Abner por ter este matado seu irmão Asael depois da batalha de Gabaon.
31 And David said unto Joab, and unto all the people who were with him,Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and lament aloud before Abner. And, King David himself, was following the bier.
31 Davi disse a Joab e a toda a sua tropa: Rasgai vossas vestes, cobri-vos de sacos e pranteai Abner! E o rei seguiu atrás do féretro.
32 And they buried Abner in Hebron,and the king lifted up his voice and wept, at the grave of Abner, and all the people wept.
32 Sepultaram Abner em Hebron. O rei pôs-se a chorar em alta voz sobre seu túmulo, e todo o povo chorou.
33 And the king addressed his dirge unto Abner, and said,As a base man dieth, should Abner have died?
33 E Davi cantou a seguinte lamentação, chorando Abner: Devia Abner morrer como morrem os insensatos?!
34 Thy hands, were not bound, And, thy feet, near to fetters, were not brought, As one falleth before assassins, so didst thou fall! And again all the people wept over him.
34 Tuas mãos não estavam algemadas, nem acorrentados os teus pés. Caíste como se cai diante de celerados.
35 And, when all the people came near to get David to eat bread, while yet it was day, David sware, sayingSo, let God do to me, and, so, let him add, if, before the sun go in, I taste bread, or anything else.
35 E o povo chorou sobre ele. Depois, como todo mundo viesse a Davi insistindo em que ele tomasse algum alimento antes de acabar o dia, ele fez este juramento: Que o Senhor me trate com todo o seu rigor, se eu comer pão ou qualquer outra coisa, antes do pôr-do-sol.
36 And, all the people, took note of it, and it was noble in their eyes,as, all that the king did, was, in the eyes of all the people, noble.
36 Todo o povo o soube e o aprovou, como aliás lhe parecia sempre bom tudo o que o rei fazia.
37 So then all the people, and all Israel, took note, that day, that it was not of the king, to cause the death of Abner son of Ner.
37 Todo o exército e todo o Israel reconheceu naquele dia que o rei não tivera parte alguma no assassínio de Abner, filho de Ner.
38 And the king said unto his servants,Will ye not take note that, a prince and a great man, hath fallen this day, in Israel?
38 O rei disse aos seus servos: Não sabeis que um chefe, um grande chefe caiu hoje em Israel?
39 And, I myself, this day, am weak, though anointed king, but, these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are more severe than I: Yahweh repay, the doer of wickedness, according to his wickedness.
39 Quanto a mim, sou ainda fraco, embora tenha recebido a unção real. Esses homens, filhos de Sarvia, são mais fortes do que eu. Que o Senhor retribua àqueles que fizeram o mal segundo os seus próprios atos!
