1 And again was the anger of Yahweh kindled against Israel,so that he suffered David to be moved against them, saying, Go, count Israel and Judah.
1 Mais uma vez, irou-se o Senhor contra Israel. E incitou Davi contra o povo, levando-o a fazer um censo de Israel e de Judá.
2 The king, therefore, said unto Joab, captain of the force, who was with himGo to and fro, I pray thee, throughout all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even unto Beer -sheba, and number ye the people,so shall I know the sum of the people.
2 Então o rei disse a Joabe e aos outros comandantes do exército: "Vão por todas as tribos de Israel, de Dã a Berseba, e contem o povo, para que eu saiba quantos são".
3 Then said Joab unto the kingYea, Yahweh thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, a hundredfold, and the eyes of my lord the king, to see it,but, my lord the king, wherefore doth he find pleasure in this thing?
3 Joabe, porém, respondeu ao rei: "Que o Senhor teu Deus multiplique o povo por cem, e que os olhos do rei, meu senhor, o vejam! Mas, por que o rei, meu senhor, deseja fazer isso? "
4 Notwithstanding, the word of the king prevailed against Joab, and over the captains of the force,so Joab went forth, with the captains of the force, before the king, to number the peopleIsrael.
4 Mas a palavra do rei prevaleceu sobre a de Joabe e dos comandantes do exército; então eles saíram da presença do rei para contar o povo de Israel.
5 And they passed over the Jordan,and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city, that is in the midst of the ravine of Gad, even towards Jazer.
5 E atravessando o Jordão, começaram em Aroer, ao sul da cidade, no vale; depois foram para Gade e de lá para Jazar,
6 Thus came they to Gilead, and unto the land of Tahtim-hodshi,and came to Dan-jaan, and round about Zidon;
6 Gileade e Cades dos hititas, chegaram a Dã-Jaã e às proximidades de Sidom.
7 and entered the fortress of Tyre, and all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites,and they went out to the South of Judah, even to Beer-sheba.
7 Dali seguiram na direção da fortaleza de Tiro e de todas as cidades dos heveus e dos cananeus. Por último foram até Berseba, no Neguebe de Judá.
8 So, when they had gone to and fro throughout all the land, they came, at the end of nine months and twenty days, unto Jerusalem.
8 Percorreram todo o país, e voltaram a Jerusalém ao fim de nove meses e vinte dias.
9 And Joab delivered up the sum of the number of the people, unto the king,and there were found to be, in Israel, eight hundred thousand men of valour, drawing the sword,and, the men of Judah, five hundred thousand men.
9 Então Joabe apresentou ao rei o relatório do recenseamento do povo; havia em Israel oitocentos mil homens habilitados para o serviço militar, e em Judá, quinhentos mil.
10 And the heart of David smote him, after he had reckoned up the people,and David said unto YahwehI have sinned greatly, in what I have done, Now, therefore, O Yahweh, take away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant, for I have done very foolishly.
10 Depois de contar o povo, Davi sentiu remorso e disse ao Senhor: "Pequei gravemente com o que fiz! Agora, Senhor, eu imploro que perdoes o pecado do teu servo, porque cometi uma grande loucura! "
11 And, when David arose in the morning, the word of Yahweh, had come unto Gad the prophet, the seer of David, saying:
11 Levantando-se Davi pela manhã, o Senhor já tinha falado a Gade, o vidente dele:
12 Go and speak unto DavidThus, saith Yahweh, Three things, do I offer thee,choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
12 "Vá dizer a Davi: ‘Assim diz o Senhor: Estou lhe dando três opções de punição; escolha uma delas, e eu a executarei contra você’ ".
13 So Gad came in unto David, and told him,and said to him: Shall there come unto thee seven years of famine in thy land? Or, for three months, wilt thou flee before thine enemies while, they, pursue thee? Or shall there be, for three days, pestilence in thy land? Now, consider and see, what, answer, I shall return to him that sent me.
13 Então Gade foi a Davi e lhe perguntou: "O que você prefere: três anos de fome em sua terra; três meses fugindo de seus adversários, que o perseguirão; ou três dias de praga em sua terra? Pense bem e diga-me o que deverei responder àquele que me enviou".
14 And David said unto GadI am in a great strait,let us fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Yahweh, for, manifold, are, his compassions, but, into the hand of man, let me not fall.
14 Davi respondeu: "É grande a minha angústia! Prefiro cair nas mãos do Senhor, pois grande é a sua misericórdia, e não nas mãos dos homens".
15 So Yahweh sent forth a pestilence throughout Israel, from the morning even unto the time appointed,and there died of the people, from Dan even unto Beer-sheba, seventy thousand men.
15 Então o Senhor enviou uma praga sobre Israel, desde aquela manhã até a hora que tinha determinado. E morreram setenta mil homens do povo, de Dã a Berseba.
16 But, when the messenger stretched out his hand towards Jerusalem, to destroy it, then relented Yahweh as to the evil, and he said to the messenger who was destroying the peopleEnough! now, stay thy hand. And, the messenger of Yahweh, was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
16 Quando o anjo estendeu a mão para destruir Jerusalém, o Senhor arrependeu-se de trazer essa catástrofe, e ele disse ao anjo destruidor: "Pare! Já basta! " Naquele momento o anjo do Senhor estava perto da eira de Araúna, o jebuseu.
17 Then said David unto Yahweh, when he saw the messenger who was smiting the people, yea he saidLo! I, have sinned, and, I, have done perversely, but what have, these sheep, done? Let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against the house of my father!
17 Ao ver o anjo que estava matando o povo, disse Davi ao Senhor: "Fui eu que pequei e cometi iniqüidade. Estes não passam de ovelhas. O que eles fizeram? Que o teu castigo caia sobre mim e sobre a minha família! "
18 And Gad came unto David, on that day,and said unto himGo up, rear thou unto Yahweh an altar, in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
18 Naquele mesmo dia Gade foi dizer a Davi: "Vá e edifique um altar na eira de Araúna, o jebuseu".
19 So David went up, according to the word of Gad, as Yahweh had commanded.
19 Davi foi para lá, em obediência à ordem que Gade tinha dado em nome do Senhor.
20 And Araunah looked out, and saw the king, and his servants, passing over unto himso Araunah went forth, and did homage unto the king, with his face to the ground.
20 Quando Araúna viu o rei e seus soldados vindo ao encontro dele, saiu e prostrou-se perante o rei, rosto em terra,
21 Then said Araunah, Wherefore, hath my lord the king come unto his servant? And David saidTo buy of thee the threshing-floor, to build an altar unto Yahweh, that the plague may be stayed from off the people.
21 e disse: "Por que o meu senhor e rei veio ao seu servo? " Respondeu Davi: "Para comprar sua eira, e edificar nela um altar ao Senhor, para que cesse a praga no meio do povo".
22 Then said Araunah unto David, Let my lord the king accept it and cause to ascend what is good in his own eyes,see! the oxen for the ascending-sacrifice, and the threshing-sledges and ox-yokes for wood.
22 Araúna disse a Davi: "O meu senhor e rei pode ficar com o que quiser e ofereça-o em sacrifício. Aqui estão os bois para o holocausto, e o debulhador e o jugo dos bois para a lenha.
23 The whole, did Araunah give, as a king to a king. And Araunah said unto the king, Yahweh thy God, accept thee!
23 Ó rei, eu dou tudo isso a ti". E acrescentou: "Que o Senhor teu Deus aceite a tua oferta".
24 But the king said unto AraunahNay! but I will, buy, it of thee, for a price, and will not cause to ascend unto Yahweh my God, offerings that have cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing-floor, and the oxen, for fifty shekels of silver;
24 Mas o rei respondeu a Araúna: "Não! Faço questão de pagar o preço justo. Não oferecerei ao Senhor meu Deus holocaustos que não me custem nada". Davi comprou, pois, a eira e os bois por cinqüenta peças de prata.
25 and David built there an altar unto Yahweh, and caused to go up ascending-sacrifices and peace-offerings,then was Yahweh entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
25 E Davi edificou ali um altar ao Senhor e ofereceu holocaustos e sacrifícios de comunhão. Então o Senhor aceitou as súplicas em favor da terra, e a praga parou de destruir Israel.
