¹ And it was told Joab,Lo! the king, is weeping and mourning over Absolom.

¹ E foi dito a Joabe: Eis que o rei pranteia e se lamenta por Absalão.

² So the victory, on that day, was turned into mourning, with all the people,for the people heard, on that day, saying, The king is distressed for his son.

² E a vitória daquele dia foi tornada em lamento para todo o povo; porque o povo ouviu dizer naquele dia como o rei estava aflito pelo seu filho.

³ And the people stole away, on that day, to go into the city,as people steal away who are put to shame, when they flee in battle.

³ E, naquele dia, o povo adentrou a cidade às escondidas, como pessoas envergonhadas se retiram quando fogem da batalha.

⁴ But, the king, muffled his face, and the king made outcry, with a loud voice,O my son Absolom, O Absolom, my son, my son!

⁴ O rei, porém, cobriu a sua face, e o rei gritou com voz alta: Ó meu filho, Absalão! Ó Absalão, meu filho, meu filho!

⁵ Then came Joab unto the king, in the house, and saidThou hast, to-day, covered with shame the faces of all thy servants, who have rescued thy life to-day, and the lives of thy sons and thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;

⁵ E Joabe veio até o rei, na casa, e disse: Envergonhaste neste dia a face de todos os teus servos, os quais, neste dia, salvaram a tua vida, e a vida dos teus filhos e das tuas filhas, e a vida das tuas esposas, e a vida das tuas concubinas;

⁶ by loving them who hated thee, and hating them who loved thee,for thou hast declared, to-day, that, nothing to thee, are princes or servants, for I perceive, to-day, that, if, Absolom, had lived, and, all we, to-day had died, that, then, it had been right in thine eyes.

⁶ posto que amas os teus inimigos, e odeias os teus amigos. Porque declaraste, neste dia, que não consideras nem príncipes, nem servos; pois neste dia percebo que, se Absalão tivesse sobrevivido, e todos nós tivéssemos morrido neste dia, então isto bem teria comprazido a ti.

⁷ Now, therefore, risego forth, and speak unto the heart of thy servants,for, by Yahweh, have I sworn, that, if thou do not go forth, not a man shall tarry with thee to-night, and this will be to thee, a greater misfortune, than all the misfortune that hath come upon thee from thy youth until now.

⁷ Agora, portanto, levanta-te, sai e fala consoladoramente aos teus servos; porque juro pelo SENHOR, se não o fores, não restará nenhum sequer contigo esta noite; e isto te será pior do que todo o mal que te sobreveio desde a tua mocidade até agora.

⁸ So the king arose, and took his seat in the gate,and, to all the people, was it told, sayingLo! the king, is sitting in the gate. Then came all the people before the king, but, Israel, had fled every man to his home.

⁸ Então, o rei se levantou, e se assentou no portão. E contaram a todo o povo, dizendo: Eis que o rei, de fato, assenta-se no portão. E todo o povo achegou-se diante do rei; porquanto Israel havia fugido, cada qual, para a sua tenda.

⁹ And it came to pass that all the people were reproaching one another, throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying,the king, delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and, he, rescued us out of the hand of the Philistines, but, now, he hath fled out of the land, away from Absolom;

⁹ E todo o povo estava em conflito ao longo de todas as tribos de Israel, dizendo: O rei nos salvou da mão dos nossos inimigos, e ele nos livrou da mão dos filisteus; e agora ele está fugido da terra por causa de Absalão.

¹⁰ and, Absolom, whom we anointed over us, hath died in the battle. Now, therefore, why are, ye, silent as to bringing back the king?

¹⁰ E Absalão, a quem ungimos sobre nós, foi morto em batalha. Agora, portanto, por que vós não falais uma palavra sobre trazer o rei de volta?

¹¹ And, King David, sent unto Zadok and unto Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak ye unto the elders of Judah, saying, Wherefore should ye be behindhand, in bringing back the king unto his home,seeing that, the speech of all Israel, hath come unto the king, regarding his home?

¹¹ E o rei Davi enviou a Zadoque e a Abiatar, os sacerdotes, dizendo: Falai aos líderes de Judá, dizendo: Por que sois vós os últimos a trazer o rei de volta à sua casa, vendo que o comentário de todo o Israel chegou até o rei, até a sua casa?

¹² Mine own brethren, are ye, my bone and my flesh, are ye,wherefore then should ye be behindhand in bringing back the king?

¹² Vós sois os meus irmãos, vós sois os meus ossos e a minha carne; por que, então, sois os últimos a trazer de volta o rei?

¹³ And, unto Amasa, shall ye say, Art not, thou, my bone and my flesh? So, let God do to me, and, so, let him add, if thou become not, prince of the army, before me continually, instead of Joab.

¹³ E dizei a Amasa: Não és tu do meu osso, e da minha carne? Deus assim faça a mim, e mais ainda, se tu não fores capitão do exército diante de mim continuamente no lugar de Joabe.

¹⁴ Thus bowed he the heart of all the men of Judah, as one man,and they sent unto the king, Return, thou, and all thy servants.

¹⁴ E ele dobrou o coração de todos os homens de Judá, tal como o coração de um homem; de modo que enviaram esta palavra ao rei: Retorna tu, e todos os teus servos.

¹⁵ Then the king returned, and came as far as the Jordan,and, Judah, came to Gilgal, to go and meet the king, to escort the king over the Jordan.

¹⁵ Assim, o rei retornou, e veio até o Jordão. E Judá veio até Gilgal, para se encontrar com o rei, para conduzir o rei sobre o Jordão.

¹⁶ Then hastened Shimei, son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim,and came down, with the men of Judah, to meet King David.

¹⁶ E Simei, o filho de Gera, um benjamita, que era de Baurim, apressou-se e desceu com os homens de Judá para se encontrar com o rei Davi.

¹⁷ And, a thousand men, were with him, out of Benjamin, Ziba also, servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and twenty servants, with him,and they went through the Jordan, before the king.

¹⁷ E havia mil homens de Benjamim com ele, e Ziba, o servo da casa de Saul, e os seus quinze filhos, e os seus vinte servos com ele; e eles atravessaram o Jordão diante do rei.

¹⁸ But the ferry-boat kept crossing, to bring over the household of the king, and to do what was good in his eyes. And, Shimei, son of Gera, fell down before the king, when he had passed over the Jordan;

¹⁸ E ali atravessaram uma balsa para carregar a casa do rei, e fazer o que ele considerasse bom. E Simei, o filho de Gera, caiu diante do rei, depois de atravessar o Jordão;

¹⁹ and he said unto the kingLet not my lord impute to me iniquity, neither do thou remember the perverseness of thy servant, on the day that thou wentest out, my lord O king, from Jerusalem, that the king should lay it upon his heart.

¹⁹ e disse ao rei: Que o meu senhor não impute iniquidade a mim, nem te lembres daquilo que o teu servo fez perversamente no dia em que meu senhor, o rei, saiu de Jerusalém, para que o rei tome isso no seu coração.

²⁰ For thy servant doth know, that, I, sinned, lo! therefore, I have arrived to-day, as the first of all the house of Joseph, to come down to meet my lord the king.

²⁰ Porque o teu servo, em verdade, sabe que eu pequei; portanto, eis que venho por primeiro neste dia de toda a casa de José a descer para me encontrar com o meu senhor, o rei.

²¹ Then responded Abishai, son of Zeruiah, and said, For this, shall not Shimei be put to death, for that he cursed the Anointed of Yahweh?

²¹ Todavia, Abisai, o filho de Zeruia respondeu e disse: Não será Simei levado à morte por isso, porque amaldiçoou o ungido do SENHOR?

²² But David said, What have I in common with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, for ye would become to me, to-day, a very traitor! Shall there, to-day, be put to death a man in Israel? for do I not know, that, to-day, I, am king over Israel?

²² E Davi disse: O que tenho a ver convosco, filhos de Zeruia, para que, neste dia, sejais adversários diante de mim? Deve algum homem ser posto à morte neste dia em Israel? Porque não sei eu que sou, neste dia, rei sobre Israel?

²³ Then said the king unto ShimeiThou shalt not die. And the king sware to him.

²³ Portanto, o rei disse a Simei: Tu não morrerás. E o rei jurou-lhe.

²⁴ And, Mephibosheth, son of Saul, came down to meet the king,he had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor, his clothes, had he washed, from the day the king departed, until the day that he entered in peace.

²⁴ E Mefibosete, o filho de Saul, desceu para se encontrar com o rei, e não havia nem calçado o seu pé, nem aparado a sua barba, nem lavado as suas vestes, desde o dia em que o rei partiu até o dia em que ele veio novamente em paz.

²⁵ And it came to pass, when he entered Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest thou not with me, Mephibosheth.

²⁵ E sucedeu que, quando ele chegou a Jerusalém para se encontrar com o rei, o rei lhe disse: Por que não foste tu comigo, Mefibosete?

²⁶ And he said, My lord, O king, my servant, betrayed me, for thy servant saidI will even saddle me mine ass, that I may ride thereon, and go with the king, for, lame, is thy servant.

²⁶ E ele respondeu: Meu senhor, ó rei, o meu servo me enganou; porque o teu servo disse: Selarei para mim um jumento, sobre o qual eu possa cavalgar, e ir até o rei; porque o teu servo é aleijado.

²⁷ And he hath slandered thy servant, unto my lord the king,but, my lord the king, is as a messenger of God, do therefore what is good in thine own eyes.

²⁷ E ele caluniou o teu servo diante do meu senhor, o rei; mas o meu senhor, o rei, é como um anjo de Deus; faz, portanto, o que for bom aos teus olhos.

²⁸ For, when all the house of my father were nothing better than dead men, unto my lord the king, then didst thou set thy servant among them that used to eat at thy table,what then have I further, by way of right, or to cry out any further unto the king?

²⁸ Porque todos os da casa do meu pai não passavam de homens mortos diante do meu senhor, o rei; contudo colocaste o teu servo entre aqueles que comiam à tua própria mesa. Que direito mais tenho eu, portanto, de chorar diante do rei?

²⁹ Then the king said unto him, Wherefore shouldst thou speak any further of thine affairs? I have saidThou and Ziba, shall share the land.

²⁹ E o rei disse a ele: Por que falas tu ainda das tuas questões? Eu disse: Tu e Ziba dividireis a terra.

³⁰ And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Even the whole, let him take,now that my lord the king hath entered, in peace, into his own house.

³⁰ E Mefibosete disse ao rei: Sim, que ele tome tudo, ainda mais que o meu senhor, o rei, veio novamente em paz para a sua própria casa.

³¹ And, Barzillai the Gileadite, came down from Rogelim,and passed, with the king, over the Jordan, to escort him over the Jordan.

³¹ E Barzilai, o gileadita, desceu de Rogelim, e atravessou o Jordão com o rei para conduzi-lo sobre o Jordão.

³² Now, Barzillai, was very aged, eighty years old,and, he himself, had sustained the king, throughout his sojourn in Mahanaim, for he was, an exceeding great man.

³² Ora, Barzilai era um homem mui idoso, já de oitenta anos; e ele havia provido o sustento do rei enquanto ele esteve em Maanaim; pois ele era um homem mui magnífico.

³³ So then the king said unto Barzillai,Thou, come over with me, and I will sustain thee with me, in Jerusalem.

³³ E o rei disse a Barzilai: Vem tu comigo, e eu te alimentarei comigo em Jerusalém.

³⁴ But Barzillai said unto the king,Like unto what, are the days of the years of my life, that I should come up with the king, to Jerusalem.

³⁴ E Barzilai disse ao rei: Quanto tempo tenho eu que viver, para que suba com o rei até Jerusalém?

³⁵ Eighty years old, am I to-daycould I discern between good and bad? or could thy servant taste what I might eat, and what I might drink? or could I hearken any more to the voice of singing men and singing women? Wherefore, then, should thy servant yet be a burden unto my lord the king?

³⁵ Tenho neste dia oitenta anos de idade; e posso eu discernir entre o bem e o mal? Pode o teu servo sentir o gosto do que eu como ou do que eu bebo? Posso ainda ouvir a voz de homens cantando e mulheres cantando? Por que, então, deveria o teu servo ser ainda um fardo para o meu senhor, o rei?

³⁶ Just a little way, will thy servant pass over the Jordan with the king,but wherefore should the king recompense me with this reward?

³⁶ O teu servo seguirá um pouco pelo Jordão com o rei; e por que o rei deveria me recompensar com tal galardão?

³⁷ Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father, and my mother. But here is thy servant Chimhamlet him pass over with my lord the king, and do unto him that which may be good in thine eyes.

³⁷ Deixa o teu servo, rogo-te, voltar novamente, para que eu possa morrer na minha própria cidade, e ser sepultado junto ao sepulcro do meu pai e da minha mãe. Mas eis aqui o teu servo Quimã; deixa-o atravessar com o meu senhor, o rei; e faz com ele o que parecer bom para ti.

³⁸ Then said the king, With me, shall Chimham pass over, and, I, will do unto him that which shall be good in thine eyes,and, whatsoever thou shalt choose to lay upon me, I will do for thee.

³⁸ E o rei respondeu: Quimã atravessará comigo, e farei com ele o que parecer bom para ti; e qualquer coisa que requereres de mim, isto farei por ti.

³⁹ And, when all the people had passed over the Jordan, then, the king, passed over, and the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him, and he returned unto his own place.

³⁹ E todo o povo atravessou o Jordão. E quando o rei chegou da travessia, o rei beijou Barzilai, e o abençoou; e ele retornou para o seu próprio lugar.

⁴⁰ And the king passed over to Gilgal, and, Chimham, passed over with him,and, all the people of Judah, escorted the king, yea moreover, half the people of Israel.

⁴⁰ E o rei prosseguiu para Gilgal, e Quimã prosseguiu com ele; e todo o povo de Judá conduziu o rei, bem como metade do povo de Israel.

⁴¹ Then lo! all the men of Israel, were coming unto the king,and they said unto the kingWhy did our brethren the men of Judah steal thee away, and escort the king and his household over the Jordan, and all the men of David with him?

⁴¹ E, eis que, todos os homens de Israel vieram até o rei, e disseram ao rei: Por que os nossos irmãos, os homens de Judá, roubaram-te para longe, e trouxeram o rei, e toda a sua casa, e todos os homens de Davi sobre o Jordão?

⁴² And all the men of Judah made answer unto the men of IsraelBecause the king is, near of kin, unto us, wherefore, then, is it, that ye are angry over this matter? Have we, eaten, at the kings cost? or hath he, bestowed any gifts, on us?

⁴² E todos os homens de Judá responderam aos homens de Israel: Porque o rei é um parente próximo de nós; por que, então, estais vós irados por causa disso? Por acaso, comemos nós às custas do rei? Ou, nos deu ele algum presente?

⁴³ And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and saidTen parts, have we in the king, therefore, even in David, have we more right than ye. Why, then, made ye light of us, so that our word was not heard first as to bringing back our king? And, the words of the men of Judah, were fiercer than, the words of the men of Israel.

⁴³ E os homens de Israel responderam aos homens de Judá, e disseram: Temos dez partes no rei, e também temos mais direito em Davi do que vós; por que, então, nos desprezais, para que o nosso conselho não seja o primeiro acatado em se trazer de volta o nosso rei? E as palavras dos homens de Judá foram mais severas do que as palavras dos homens de Israel.
