1 The Elder, unto an elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not, I, alone, but all those also who understand the truth,
1 O ancião à Senhora eleita e a seus filhos, que amo na verdade. Não somente eu, mas também todos os que conheceram a verdade,
2 For the sake of the truth that abideth in us, and, with us, shall be unto times age-abiding,
2 por causa da verdade que permanece em nós e que ficará conosco eternamente.
3 Favour, mercy, peace shall be with us, from God the Father, and from Jesus Christ the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
3 Estejam convosco, na verdade e no amor: graça, misericórdia e paz da parte de Deus Pai e de Jesus Cristo, Filho do Pai.
4 I rejoiced exceedingly, in that I had found, from among thy children, such as were walking in truth, even as, a commandment, we received from the Father.
4 Muito me alegrei por ter achado entre teus filhos alguns que andam na verdade, conforme o mandamento que temos recebido do Pai.
5 And, now, I request thee, lady, not as writing, a new commandment, unto thee, but one which we were holding from the beginningThat we should be loving one another.
5 E agora rogo-te, Senhora, não como quem te escreve um novo mandamento, mas sim o que tivemos desde o princípio: que nos amemos uns aos outros.
6 And, this, is love, that we should be walking according to his commandments: This, is, the commandment, even as ye heard from the beginning, that, therein, ye should be walking.
6 Nisto consiste o amor: que vivamos segundo seus mandamentos. É este o mandamento que tendes ouvido desde o princípio, e segundo o qual deveis viver.
7 Because, many deceivers, have gone out into the world, they who do not confess Jesus Christ coming in flesh: This, is the deceiver and the antichrist.
7 Muitos sedutores têm saído pelo mundo afora, os quais não proclamam Jesus Cristo que se encarnou. Quem assim proclama é o sedutor e o Anticristo.
8 Be taking heed unto yourselves, lest ye lose what things we earned,but, a full reward, ye may duly receive.
8 Acautelai-vos, para que não percais o fruto de nosso trabalho, mas antes possais receber plena recompensa.
9 Every one that taketh a lead, and abideth not in the teaching of Christ, hath not, God: he that abideth in the teaching, the same, hath, both the Father and the Son.
9 Todo aquele que caminha sem rumo e não permanece na doutrina de Cristo, não tem Deus. Quem permanece na doutrina, este possui o Pai e o Filho.
10 If anyone cometh unto you and, this teaching, doth not bring, be not receiving him home, and, Joy to thee! do not say;
10 Se alguém vier a vós sem trazer esta doutrina, não o recebais em vossa casa, nem o saudeis.
11 For, he that biddeth him rejoice, hath fellowship with his wicked works.
11 Porque quem o saúda toma parte em suas obras más.
12 Though I had many things, unto you, to write, I was not minded with paper and ink; but I hope to come unto you, and, mouth to mouth, to talk,that your joy may be made full.
12 Apesar de ter mais coisas que vos escrever, não o quis fazer com papel e tinta, mas espero estar entre vós e conversar de viva voz, para que a vossa alegria seja perfeita.
13 The children of thy chosen sister salute thee.
13 Saúdam-te os filhos de tua irmã, a escolhida.
