1 After these things done in faithfulness, came Sennacherib king of Assyria,and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to break into them for himself.
1 Depois destas coisas e destes atos de fidelidade, veio Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria e, entrando em Judá, acampou-se contra as cidades fortes, a fim de apoderar-se delas.
2 And, when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come,and that, his face, wasto war, against Jerusalem,
2 Quando Ezequias viu que Senaqueribe tinha vindo com o propósito de guerrear contra Jerusalém,
3 he took counsel with his captains and his heroes, to stop the waters of the fountains, which were outside the city,-and they helped him.
3 teve conselho com os seus príncipes e os seus poderosos, para que se tapassem as fontes das águas que havia fora da cidade; e eles o ajudaram.
4 And there were gathered together much people, so they stopped all the fountains, and the torrent that flowed through the midst of the land, saying,Wherefore should the kings of Assyria come, and find many waters?
4 Assim muito povo se ajuntou e tapou todas as fontes, como também o ribeiro que corria pelo meio da terra, dizendo: Por que viriam os reis da Assíria, e achariam tantas águas?
5 And he took courage, and built all the wall that was broken down and carried up thereon towers, and, on the outside, another wall, and strengthened Millo, the city of David,-and made weapons in abundance, and bucklers,
5 Ezequias, cobrando ânimo, edificou todo o muro que estava demolido, levantando torres sobre ele, fez outro muro por fora, fortificou a Milo na cidade de Davi, e fez armas e escudos em abundância.
6 and set captains of war over the people,and gathered them together unto him in the broadway of the gate of the city, and spake unto their heart, saying,
6 Então pôs oficiais de guerra sobre o povo e, congregando-os na praça junto à porta da cidade, falou-lhes ao coração, dizendo:
7 Be strong and bold, do not fear neither be dismayed, because of the king of Assyria, nor because of all the multitude that is with him,for, with us, is One greater than with him:
7 Sede corajosos, e tende bom ânimo; não temais, nem vos espanteis, por causa do rei da Assíria, nem por causa de toda a multidão que está com ele, pois há conosco um maior do que o que está com ele.
8 with him, is an arm of flesh, but, with us, is Yahweh our God, to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people leaned upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
8 Com ele está um braço de carne, mas conosco o Senhor nosso Deus, para nos ajudar e para guerrear por nós. E o povo descansou nas palavras de Ezequias, rei de Judá.
9 After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants towards Jerusalem, himself, being near Lachish, and all his imperial might with him,unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that was in Jerusalem, saying:
9 Depois disso Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, enquanto estava diante de Laquis, com todas as suas forças, enviou os seus servos a Jerusalém a Ezequias, rei de Judá, e a todo o Judá que estava em Jerusalém, dizendo:
10 Thus, saith Sennacherib, king of Assyria,-Upon what, are, ye, trusting, that ye are awaiting the siege in Jerusalem?
10 Assim diz Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria: Em que confiais vós, para vos deixardes sitiar em Jerusalém?
11 Is not, Hezekiah, persuading you, so as to deliver you up to die with hunger and with thirst, saying,Yahweh our God, will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
11 Porventura não vos engana Ezequias, para vos fazer morrer à fome e à sede, quando diz: O Senhor nosso Deus nos livrará das mãos do rei da Assíria?
12 Is it not, the same Hezekiah, who hath removed his high places, and his altars,and hath given word to Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Before one altar, shall ye bow yourselves down, and, thereupon, shall ye burn incense?
12 Esse mesmo Ezequias não lhe tirou os altos e os altares, e não ordenou a Judá e a Jerusalém, dizendo: Diante de um só altar adorareis, e sobre ele queimareis incenso?
13 Will ye not take note, what I have done, I and my fathers, to all the peoples of the countries? Have the gods of the nations of the countries been, at all able, to deliver their country, out of my hand?
13 Não sabeis vós o que eu e meus pais temos feito a todos os povos de outras terras? Puderam de qualquer maneira os deuses das nações daquelas terras livrar a sua terra da minha mão?
14 Who, among all the gods of these nations whom my fathers devoted to destruction, hath ever been able to deliver his people out of my hand,that your god should be able to deliver you out of my hand?
14 Qual é, de todos os deuses daquelas nações que meus pais destruíram, o que pôde livrar o seu povo da minha mão, para que o vosso Deus vos possa livrar da minha mão?
15 Now, therefore, do not let Hezekiah beguile you nor persuade you thus, neither do ye believe him. For no, god, of any nation or kingdom hath ever been able to deliver his people out of my hand, or out of the hand of my fathers,-how much less shall, your gods, deliver you, out of my hand?
15 Agora, pois, não vos engane Ezequias, nem vos incite assim, nem lhe deis crédito. Porque nenhum deus de nação alguma, nem de reino algum, pôde livrar o seu povo da minha mão, nem da mão de meus pais; quanto menos o vosso Deus vos poderá livrar da minha mão?
16 And, yet more, spake his servants, against Yahweh, God,and against Hezekiah his servant.
16 E os servos de Senaqueribe falaram ainda mais contra o Senhor Deus, e contra o seu servo Ezequias.
17 Letters, also wrote he, to scoff at Yahweh God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, Like the gods of the nations of the countries, who delivered not their people out of my hand, so, shall the god of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.
17 Ele também escreveu cartas para blasfemar do Senhor Deus de Israel, dizendo contra ele: Assim como os deuses das nações das terras não livraram o seu povo da minha mão, assim também o Deus de Ezequias não livrará o seu povo da minha mão.
18 Then cried they out, with a loud voice, in the Jews language, unto the people of Jerusalem who were upon the wall, to affright them, and to terrify them,to the end they might capture the city.
18 E clamaram em alta voz, na língua dos judeus, ao povo de Jerusalém que estava em cima do muro, para os atemorizarem e os perturbarem, a fim de tomarem a cidade.
19 And they spake against the God of Jerusalem,as against the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of the hands of men.
19 E falaram do Deus de Jerusalém como dos deuses dos povos da terra, que são obras das mãos dos homens.
20 And Hezekiah the king and Isaiah son of Amoz, the prophet, prayed concerning this,-and made outcry unto the heavens,
20 Mas o rei Ezequias e o profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz, oraram por causa disso, e clamaram ao céu.
21 So Yahweh sent a messenger, who cut off every hero of valour, and chief ruler and captain, in the camp of the king of Assyria,and he returned with shame of face to his own land, and, when he entered the house of his god, then, the issue of his own bodythere, caused him to fall by the sword.
21 Então o Senhor enviou um anjo que destruiu no arraial do rei da Assíria todos os guerreiros valentes, e os príncipes, e os chefes. Ele, pois, envergonhado voltou para a sua terra; e, quando entrou na casa de seu deus, alguns dos seus próprios filhos o mataram ali à espada.
22 Thus did Yahweh save Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem out of the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria, and out of the hand of every one,and gave them rest on every side.
22 Assim o Senhor salvou Ezequias, e os moradores de Jerusalém, da mão de Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, e da mão de todos; e lhes deu descanso de todos os lados.
23 And, many, were bringing in a present unto Yahweh, to Jerusalem, and precious things, unto Hezekiah king of Judah,so that he was exalted in the eyes of all the nations, from thenceforth.
23 E muitos trouxeram presentes a Jerusalém ao Senhor, e coisas preciosas a Ezequias, rei de Judá, de modo que desde então ele foi exaltado perante os olhos de todas as nações.
24 In those days, was Hezekiah sick unto death,and, when he prayed unto Yahweh, he was entreated of him and, a wonderful token, he gave him.
24 Naqueles dias Ezequias, adoecendo, estava à morte: e orou ao Senhor o qual lhe respondeu, e lhe deu um sinal.
25 But, not according to the benefit done unto him, did Hezekiah make return, for uplifted was his heart,and so there came upon him, wrath, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
25 Mas Ezequias não correspondeu ao benefício que lhe fora feito, pois o seu coração se exaltou; pelo que veio grande ira sobre ele, e sobre Judá e Jerusalém.
26 Then Hezekiah humbled himself, for the uplifting of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,so that the wrath of Yahweh came not upon them, in the days of Hezekiah.
26 Todavia Ezequias humilhou-se pela soberba do seu coração, ele e os habitantes de Jerusalém; de modo que a grande ira do Senhor não veio sobre eles nos dias de Ezequias.
27 And it came to pass that, Hezekiah, had riches and honour in great abundance,and, treasuries, made he for himselffor silver and for gold and for costly stones, and for spices and for precious things, and for all utensils to be coveted;
27 E teve Ezequias riquezas e honra em grande abundância; proveu-se de tesourarias para prata, ouro, pedras preciosas, especiarias, escudos, e toda espécie de objetos desejáveis;
28 storehouses also, for the increase of corn, and new wine and oil,and cribs for every kind of beast, and cribs for the flocks;
28 também de celeiros para o aumento de trigo, de vinho, e de azeite; e de estrebarias para toda a casta de animais, e de currais para os rebanhos.
29 and, cities, made he for himself, and possessions of flocks and herds, in abundance,for God had given him exceeding great wealth.
29 Além disso edificou para si cidades, e teve rebanhos e manadas em abundância; pois Deus lhe tinha dado muitíssima fazenda.
30 And, the same Hezekiah, stopped up the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down the west side of the city of David,and Hezekiah prospered in all his work.
30 Também foi Ezequias quem tapou o manancial superior das águas de Giom, fazendo-as correr em linha reta pelo lado ocidental da cidade de Davi. Ezequias, pois, prosperou em todas as suas obras.
31 Yet verily, with regard to the ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire concerning the wonderful token which came to pass in the land, God left him,to prove him, to take note of all that was in his heart.
31 Contudo, no negócio dos embaixadores dos príncipes de Babilônia, que lhe foram enviados a perguntarem acerca do prodígio que fora feito na sua terra, Deus o desamparou para experimentá-lo, e para saber tudo o que havia no seu coração.
32 But, the rest of the story of Hezekiah, and his lovingkindnesses, there they are, written in the visions of Isaiah son of Amoz, the prophet, in the book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
32 Ora, o restante dos atos de Ezequias, e as suas boas obras, eis que estão escritos na visão do profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz, no livro dos reis de Judá e de Israel.
33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the sepulchres of the sons of David, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him, honour, in his death,and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
33 E Ezequias dormiu com seus pais, e o sepultaram no mais alto dos sepulcros dos filhos de Davi; e todo o Judá e os habitantes de Jerusalém lhe renderam honras na sua morte. E Manassés, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.
