1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem,for, to Shechem, had all Israel come, to make him king.
1 Foi Roboão a Siquém, porque todo o Israel se reuniu lá, para o fazer rei.
2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam son of Nebat, who was in Egypt-whither he had fled from the face the kingheard of it, then returned Jeroboam out of Egypt.
2 Tendo Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, ouvido isso (pois estava ainda no Egito, para onde fugira da presença do rei Salomão), voltou do Egito.
3 And they sent, and called him, so Jeroboam and all Israel came,and spake unto Rehoboam, saying:
3 Mandaram chamá-lo; veio ele com todo o Israel a Roboão, e lhe falaram:
4 Thy father, made our yoke oppressive,now, therefore, lighten thou somewhat the oppressive servitude of thy father and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
4 Teu pai fez pesado o nosso jugo; agora, pois, alivia tu a dura servidão de teu pai e o seu pesado jugo que nos impôs, e nós te serviremos.
5 And he said unto them, Yet three days, and then return unto me,and the people departed.
5 Ele lhes respondeu: Após três dias, voltai a mim. E o povo se foi.
6 Then King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men who had been standing before Solomon his father, while he yet lived, saying,How do, ye, counsel to return answer unto this people?
6 Tomou o rei Roboão conselho com os homens idosos que estiveram na presença de Salomão, seu pai, quando este ainda vivia, dizendo: Como aconselhais que se responda a este povo?
7 And they spake unto him saying, If thou wilt be kind to this people, and please them, and speak unto them kind words, then will they be thy servants, all the days.
7 Eles lhe disseram: Se te fizeres benigno para com este povo, e lhes agradares, e lhes falares boas palavras, eles se farão teus servos para sempre.
8 But he declined the counsel of the old men, which they gave him,and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who were standing before him.
8 Porém ele desprezou o conselho que os anciãos lhe tinham dado e tomou conselho com os jovens que haviam crescido com ele e o serviam.
9 And he said unto them, What do, ye, counsel that we should return as answer, unto this people,who have spoken unto me saying, Lighten thou somewhat the yoke, which thy father put upon us?
9 E disse-lhes: Que aconselhais vós que respondamos a este povo, que me falou, dizendo: Alivia o jugo que teu pai nos impôs?
10 Then spake with him the young men who had grown up with him, saying, Thus, shalt thou speak unto the people who have spoken unto thee saying, Thy father, made our yoke heavy, Thou, therefore, lighten somewhat our yoke,Thus, shalt thou say unto them, My little finger, is thicker than my fathers loins;
10 E os jovens que haviam crescido com ele lhe disseram: Assim falarás ao povo que disse: Teu pai fez pesado o nosso jugo, mas alivia-o de sobre nós; assim lhe falarás: Meu dedo mínimo é mais grosso do que os lombos de meu pai.
11 Now, therefore, my father, laid upon you a heavy yoke, but, I, will add to your yoke,My father, chastised you with whips, but, I, with scorpions,
11 Assim que, se meu pai vos impôs jugo pesado, eu ainda vo-lo aumentarei; meu pai vos castigou com açoites, porém eu vos castigarei com escorpiões.
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came unto Rehoboam, on the third day,as the king spake, saying, Return unto me on the third day.
12 Veio, pois, Jeroboão e todo o povo, ao terceiro dia, a Roboão, como o rei lhes ordenara, dizendo: Voltai a mim, ao terceiro dia.
13 And the king answered them harshly,and King Rehoboam declined the counsel of the old men;
13 Dura resposta lhes deu o rei, porque o rei Roboão desprezara o conselho dos anciãos;
14 and spake unto them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father, made your yoke heavy, but, I, will add thereunto,My father, chastised you with whips, But, I, with scorpions.
14 e lhes falou segundo o conselho dos jovens, dizendo: Meu pai fez pesado o vosso jugo, porém eu ainda o agravarei; meu pai vos castigou com açoites, eu, porém, vos castigarei com escorpiões.
15 So the king hearkened not unto the people,for there had come to be a turn from God, to the end Yahweh might establish his word which he had spoken by means of Ahijah the Shilonite, unto Jeroboam, son of Nebat.
15 O rei, pois, não deu ouvidos ao povo, porque isto vinha de Deus, para que o Senhor confirmasse a palavra que tinha dito por intermédio de Aías, o silonita, a Jeroboão, filho de Nebate.
16 And, when, all Israel, that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, sayingWhat portion have, we, in David, or inheritance in the son of Jesse? Every man, to your homes, O Israel! Now, see to thine own house, O David! And all Israel departed to their homes.
16 Vendo, pois, todo o Israel que o rei não lhe dava ouvidos, reagiu, dizendo: Que parte temos nós com Davi? Não há para nós herança no filho de Jessé! Cada homem à sua tenda, ó Israel! Cuida, agora, da tua casa, ó Davi! Então, Israel se foi às suas tendas.
17 But, as for the sons of Israel who were dwelling in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
17 Quanto aos filhos de Israel, porém, que habitavam nas cidades de Judá, sobre eles reinou Roboão.
18 Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the tribute, and the sons of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. So, King Rehoboam, hasted to mount his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
18 Então, o rei Roboão enviou a Adorão, superintendente dos que trabalhavam forçados, porém os filhos de Israel o apedrejaram, e morreu. Mas o rei Roboão conseguiu tomar o seu carro e fugir para Jerusalém.
19 Thus Israel rebelled against the house of Davidunto this day.
19 Assim, Israel se mantém rebelado contra a casa de Davi até ao dia de hoje.
