1 "Take up a lament concerning the princes of Israel
1 E tu, filho do homem, faze ouvir este cântico fúnebre acerca dos príncipes de Israel.
2 and say: "'What a lioness was your mother among the lions! She lay down among them and reared her cubs.
2 Quem era tua mãe? Uma leoa entre leões; estendida entre os leõezinhos, ela criava os seus filhotes.
3 She brought up one of her cubs, and he became a strong lion. He learned to tear the prey and he became a man-eater.
3 Um dos filhotes cresceu até se tornar leão; aprendeu a despedaçar a presa, a devorar os homens.
4 The nations heard about him, and he was trapped in their pit. They led him with hooks to the land of Egypt.
4 Então as nações se coligaram contra ele, e foi preso em sua fossa; com cadeias foi levado para a terra egípcia.
5 "'When she saw her hope unfulfilled, her expectation gone, she took another of her cubs and made him a strong lion.
5 Sua mãe viu que sua expectativa e sua esperança eram vãs; ela tomou outro dos seus filhotes para dele fazer um leãozinho.
6 He prowled among the lions, for he was now a strong lion. He learned to tear the prey and he became a man-eater.
6 Ele abriu caminho entre os leões, tornou-se um jovem leão; aprendeu a despedaçar a presa, a devorar os homens;
7 He broke down "their strongholds and devastated their towns. The land and all who were in it were terrified by his roaring.
7 devastou seus palácios e desolou suas cidades, a terra e seus habitantes ficaram amedrontados com os seus rugidos.
8 Then the nations came against him, those from regions round about. They spread their net for him, and he was trapped in their pit.
8 Coligaram-se contra ele as nações vizinhas; lançaram sobre ele uma cilada; em sua fossa ele foi preso.
9 With hooks they pulled him into a cage and brought him to the king of Babylon. They put him in prison, so his roar was heard no longer on the mountains of Israel.
9 Foi posto na jaula com cadeias, conduziram-no ao rei de Babilônia, prenderam-no numa fortaleza, para que não se ouvisse mais a sua voz nas montanhas de Israel.
10 "'Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard "planted by the water; it was fruitful and full of branches because of abundant water.
10 Tua mãe se assemelhava a uma vinha plantada à margem da torrente, carregada de frutos e de folhas, devido à abundância das águas.
11 Its branches were strong, fit for a ruler's scepter. It towered high above the thick foliage, conspicuous for its height and for its many branches.
11 Ela teve um ramo vigoroso, que se tornou um cetro real; sua estatura avultava-se em meio de uma espessa folhagem. Ela se distinguia por sua altitude e pelo número de seus ramos.
12 But it was uprooted in fury and thrown to the ground. The east wind made it shrivel, it was stripped of its fruit; its strong branches withered and fire consumed them.
12 Ela porém foi arrancada furiosamente, e arremessada por terra. O vento do oeste dessecou seus frutos, que caíram; emurcheceu o seu vigoroso ramo, crestado pelo fogo,
13 Now it is planted in the desert, in a dry and thirsty land.
13 e agora está ela plantada no deserto, em terra seca e árida.
14 Fire spread from one of its main "branches and consumed its fruit. No strong branch is left on it fit for a ruler's scepter.' "This is a lament and is to be used as a lament."
14 O fogo, lançado num de seus ramos, devorou seu fruto; nela não há mais ramo forte, nem cetro real! É um canto fúnebre, que efetivamente serviu de lamentação.
