1 These are the last words of David: "The inspired utterance of David son of Jesse, the utterance of the man exalted by the Most High, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, the hero of Israel's songs:
1 Ora, estas são as últimas palavras de Davi. Davi, o filho de Jessé, disse; e o homem que foi exaltado às alturas, o ungido do Deus de Jacó, e o doce salmista de Israel, disse:
2 "The Spirit of the LORD spoke through me; his word was on my tongue.
2 O Espírito do SENHOR falou por mim, e a sua palavra estava na minha língua.
3 The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me: 'When one rules over people in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God,
3 O Deus de Israel disse, a Rocha de Israel falou comigo: Aquele que rege sobre os homens precisa ser justo, regendo no temor de Deus.
4 he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings grass from the earth.'
4 E ele será como a luz da manhã, quando o sol se levanta, uma manhã sem nuvens; como a relva tenra que brota da terra através do brilho claro depois da chuva.
5 "If my house were not right with God, surely he would not have made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secured in every part; surely he would not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire.
5 Embora a minha casa não esteja assim com Deus; ele fez comigo um pacto eterno, ordenado em todas as coisas, e seguro; pois esta é toda a minha salvação, e todo o meu desejo, mesmo que ele não o faça crescer.
6 But evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns, which are not gathered with the hand.
6 Porém, todos os filhos de Belial serão como espinhos lançados fora, porque não podem ser pegos com mãos;
7 Whoever touches thorns uses a tool of iron or the shaft of a spear; they are burned up where they lie."
7 mas o homem que neles tocar deve estar cercado com ferro e com haste de uma lança; e eles serão completamente queimados com fogo no mesmo lugar.
8 These are the names of David's mighty warriors: Josheb-Basshebeth, "a Tahkemonite, "was chief of the Three; he raised his spear against eight hundred men, whom he killed "in one encounter.
8 Estes são os nomes dos homens valentes que Davi tinha: O taquemonita que se assentava no assento, chefe entre os capitães; o mesmo era Adino, o eznita; ele levantou a sua lança contra oitocentos, os quais matou de uma única vez.
9 Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite. As one of the three mighty warriors, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines gathered at Pas Dammim "for battle. Then the Israelites retreated,
9 E depois dele vinha Eleazar, o filho de Dodô, o aoíta, um dos três valentes com Davi, quando eles desafiaram os filisteus que estavam lá reunidos para a batalha, e os homens de Israel fugiram;
10 but Eleazar stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead.
10 ele se levantou, e feriu os filisteus até que a sua mão ficou exausta, e a sua mão ficou presa à espada; e o SENHOR operou uma grande vitória naquele dia; e o povo retornou depois dele somente para despojar.
11 Next to him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines banded together at a place where there was a field full of lentils, Israel's troops fled from them.
11 E, depois dele vinha Samá, o filho de Agé, o haratita. E os filisteus estavam reunidos em tropa, onde havia um pedaço de terra cheio de lentilhas; e o povo fugiu dos filisteus.
12 But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the LORD brought about a great victory.
12 Ele, porém, pôs-se de pé no meio do terreno, e o defendeu, e matou os filisteus; e o SENHOR operou uma grande vitória.
13 During harvest time, three of the thirty chief warriors came down to David at the cave of Adullam, while a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.
13 E três dos trinta chefes desceram, e vieram até Davi na época da colheita à caverna de Adulão; e a tropa dos filisteus acampou no vale de Refaim.
14 At that time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem.
14 E Davi estava, então, em uma fortaleza, e a guarnição dos filisteus estava, naquele tempo, em Belém.
15 David longed for water and said, "Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!"
15 E Davi ansiava, e disse: Ah, se alguém me desse de beber das águas do poço de Belém, que fica junto ao portão!
16 So the three mighty warriors broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before the LORD.
16 E os três homens valentes irromperam pelo exército dos filisteus, e retiraram água do poço de Belém, que ficava junto ao portão, e a tomaram e trouxeram até Davi; todavia ele não quis beber dela, mas derramou-a ao SENHOR.
17 "Far be it from me, LORD, to do this!" he said. "Is it not the blood of men who went at the risk of their lives?" And David would not drink it. Such were the exploits of the three mighty warriors.
17 E ele disse: Esteja longe de mim, ó SENHOR, que eu faça isto; não é este o sangue dos homens que foram arriscar as suas vidas? Por isto ele não quis bebê-la. Estas coisas fizeram estes três homens valentes.
18 Abishai the brother of Joab son of Zeruiah was chief of the Three. "He raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed, and so he became as famous as the Three.
18 E Abisai, o irmão de Joabe, o filho de Zeruia, era chefe entre os três. E ele levantou a sua lança contra trezentos, e os matou, e teve o nome entre os três.
19 Was he not held in greater honor than the Three? He became their commander, even though he was not included among them.
19 Não foi ele o mais honorável dos três? Portanto, ele era o capitão deles; todavia não alcançou os três primeiros.
20 Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, performed great exploits. He struck down Moab's two mightiest warriors. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion.
20 E Benaia, o filho de Joiada, o filho de um homem valente, de Cabzeel, que havia feito muitos atos, ele matou dois homens de Moabe semelhantes a leões; também desceu e matou um leão no meio de uma cova, no tempo da neve.
21 And he struck down a huge Egyptian. Although the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear.
21 E ele matou um egípcio, um homem formoso; e o egípcio tinha uma lança em sua mão; mas ele desceu até ele com uma vara, e arrancou a lança da mão do egípcio, e o matou com a sua própria lança.
22 Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he too was as famous as the three mighty warriors.
22 Estas coisas fez Benaia, o filho de Joiada, e teve o nome entre os três homens valentes.
23 He was held in greater honor than any of the Thirty, but he was not included among the Three. And David put him in charge of his bodyguard.
23 Ele foi mais honorável do que os trinta, mas não alcançou os três primeiros. E Davi o pôs sobre a sua guarda.
24 Among the Thirty were: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan son of Dodo from Bethlehem,
24 Asael, o irmão de Joabe, era um dos trinta; Elanã, o filho de Dodô de Belém;
25 Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,
25 Samá, o harodita, Elica, o harodita;
26 Helez the Paltite, Ira son of Ikkesh from Tekoa,

27 Abiezer from Anathoth, Sibbekai "the Hushathite,

28 Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,

29 Heled "son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ithai son of Ribai from Gibeah in Benjamin,

30 Benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai "from the ravines of Gaash,

31 Abi-Albon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,

32 Eliahba the Shaalbonite, the sons of Jashen, Jonathan

33 son of "Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam son of Sharar "the Hararite,

34 Elifelete, o filho de Aasbai, filho do maacatita; Eliã, o filho de Aitofel, o gilonita;
35 Hezro the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite,

36 Igal son of Nathan from Zobah, the son of Hagri, [^11]

39 and Uriah the Hittite. There were thirty-seven in all.
