2 Samuel 18
New International Version (NIV) vs NTLH
1 David mustered the men who were with him and appointed over them commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds.
1 O rei Davi juntou todos os seus soldados, dividiu-os em grupos de mil e em grupos de cem e colocou oficiais para comandá-los.
2 David sent out his troops, a third under the command of Joab, a third under Joab's brother Abishai son of Zeruiah, and a third under Ittai the Gittite. The king told the troops, "I myself will surely march out with you."
2 Então mandou que saíssem em três grupos, um comandado por Joabe, outro por Abisai, irmão de Joabe (a mãe deles era Zeruia), e outro por Itai, da cidade de Gate. E o rei disse aos seus homens: — Eu também irei com vocês.
3 But the men said, "You must not go out; if we are forced to flee, they won't care about us. Even if half of us die, they won't care; but you are worth ten thousand of us. "It would be better now for you to give us support from the city."
3 Eles responderam: — O senhor não deve ir. Se formos obrigados a fugir ou se os inimigos matarem a metade do nosso exército, isso não fará nenhuma diferença para eles. Mas o senhor vale por dez mil de nós. Será melhor que o senhor fique aqui na cidade e nos mande socorro.
4 The king answered, "I will do whatever seems best to you." So the king stood beside the gate while all his men marched out in units of hundreds and of thousands.
4 — Eu farei o que vocês acharem melhor! — respondeu o rei. Então ficou ao lado do portão enquanto os seus soldados saíam marchando em grupos de mil e de cem.
5 The king commanded Joab, Abishai and Ittai, "Be gentle with the young man Absalom for my sake." And all the troops heard the king giving orders concerning Absalom to each of the commanders.
5 Ele deu a seguinte ordem a Joabe, Abisai e Itai: — Se vocês gostam de mim, tratem o jovem Absalão com delicadeza. E toda a tropa ouviu Davi dar essa ordem a todos os oficiais.
6 David's army marched out of the city to fight Israel, and the battle took place in the forest of Ephraim.
6 O exército de Davi avançou contra os israelitas no campo e lutou contra eles na floresta de Efraim.
7 There Israel's troops were routed by David's men, and the casualties that day were great —twenty thousand men.
7 E os soldados de Davi derrotaram os israelitas. Foi uma derrota terrível: vinte mil homens foram mortos naquele dia.
8 The battle spread out over the whole countryside, and the forest swallowed up more men that day than the sword.
8 A luta se espalhou por toda aquela região, e morreram mais homens na floresta do que no campo de batalha.
9 Now Absalom happened to meet David's men. He was riding his mule, and as the mule went under the thick branches of a large oak, Absalom's hair got caught in the tree. He was left hanging in midair, while the mule he was riding kept on going.
9 De repente, Absalão se encontrou com alguns dos soldados de Davi. Absalão ia montado numa mula, e, ao passar por baixo de um grande carvalho, a sua cabeça ficou presa nos galhos. A mula continuou a correr, e Absalão ficou pendurado.
10 When one of the men saw what had happened, he told Joab, "I just saw Absalom hanging in an oak tree."
10 Um dos homens de Davi viu Absalão e disse a Joabe: — Eu vi Absalão pendurado num carvalho!
11 Joab said to the man who had told him this, "What! You saw him? Why didn't you strike him to the ground right there? Then I would have had to give you ten shekels "of silver and a warrior's belt."
11 Joabe disse: — Você viu? Então por que não o matou ali mesmo? Eu teria dado a você dez barras de prata e um cinto.
12 But the man replied, "Even if a thousand shekels "were weighed out into my hands, I would not lay a hand on the king's son. In our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, 'Protect the young man Absalom for my sake. "'
12 Mas o homem respondeu: — Mesmo que o senhor me desse mil barras de prata, eu não levantaria um dedo contra o filho do rei. Nós todos ouvimos o rei ordenar ao senhor, a Abisai e a Itai: “Se vocês gostam de mim, tratem o jovem Absalão com delicadeza.”
13 And if I had put my life in jeopardy "—and nothing is hidden from the king —you would have kept your distance from me."
13 Se eu tivesse desobedecido e matado Absalão, o rei saberia disso — ele sabe de tudo —, e o senhor não me defenderia.
14 Joab said, "I'm not going to wait like this for you." So he took three javelins in his hand and plunged them into Absalom's heart while Absalom was still alive in the oak tree.
14 — Não vou perder mais tempo com você! — disse Joabe. Então Joabe pegou três lanças e as enterrou no peito de Absalão enquanto ele ainda estava vivo, pendurado no carvalho.
15 And ten of Joab's armor-bearers surrounded Absalom, struck him and killed him.
15 E dez soldados de Joabe cercaram Absalão e acabaram de matá-lo.
16 Then Joab sounded the trumpet, and the troops stopped pursuing Israel, for Joab halted them.
16 Aí Joabe tocou a corneta a fim de parar a luta. As suas tropas pararam de perseguir os israelitas e voltaram.
17 They took Absalom, threw him into a big pit in the forest and piled up a large heap of rocks over him. Meanwhile, all the Israelites fled to their homes.
17 Eles pegaram o corpo de Absalão e o jogaram numa cova funda na floresta e o cobriram com uma enorme pilha de pedras. Então todos os israelitas fugiram, cada um para a sua casa.
18 During his lifetime Absalom had taken a pillar and erected it in the King's Valley as a monument to himself, for he thought, "I have no son to carry on the memory of my name." He named the pillar after himself, and it is called Absalom's Monument to this day.
18 Quando ainda vivia, Absalão construiu um monumento para si mesmo no vale dos Reis porque ele não tinha nenhum filho para manter vivo o seu nome. E deu o seu próprio nome ao monumento, que até hoje é conhecido como o Monumento de Absalão.
19 Now Ahimaaz son of Zadok said, "Let me run and take the news to the king that the LORD has vindicated him by delivering him from the hand of his enemies."
19 Então Aimaás, filho de Zadoque, disse a Joabe: — Deixe que eu vá correndo dar ao rei a notícia de que o
20 "You are not the one to take the news today," Joab told him. "You may take the news another time, but you must not do so today, because the king's son is dead."
20 — Não! — respondeu Joabe. — Hoje você não vai levar nenhuma boa notícia. Outro dia você poderá fazer isso, mas hoje não, porque o filho do rei morreu.
21 Then Joab said to a Cushite, "Go, tell the king what you have seen." The Cushite bowed down before Joab and ran off.
21 Então disse ao seu escravo etíope: — Vá você e diga ao rei o que viu. O escravo curvou-se diante de Joabe e saiu correndo.
22 Ahimaaz son of Zadok again said to Joab, "Come what may, please let me run behind the Cushite." But Joab replied, "My son, why do you want to go? You don't have any news that will bring you a reward."
22 Aimaás insistiu: — Por favor, deixe-me levar as notícias também, não importa o que aconteça. — Por que você quer fazer isso, meu filho? — perguntou Joabe. — Você não receberá nenhuma recompensa por isso.
23 He said, "Come what may, I want to run." So Joab said, "Run!" Then Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain "and outran the Cushite.
23 — Aconteça o que acontecer, eu quero ir! — repetiu Aimaás. — Então vá! — respondeu Joabe. Aí ele saiu correndo pela estrada do vale do rio Jordão e passou na frente do escravo etíope.
24 While David was sitting between the inner and outer gates, the watchman went up to the roof of the gateway by the wall. As he looked out, he saw a man running alone.
24 Davi estava sentado entre o portão que dá para fora da cidade e o que dá para dentro. O vigia subiu para o alto da muralha e ficou no terraço do portão. Ele olhou para fora e viu um homem correndo sozinho.
25 The watchman called out to the king and reported it. The king said, "If he is alone, he must have good news." And the runner came closer and closer.
25 Então avisou o rei. E o rei disse: — Se ele está sozinho, vem trazendo boas notícias. E o corredor veio chegando.
26 Then the watchman saw another runner, and he called down to the gatekeeper, "Look, another man running alone!" The king said, "He must be bringing good news, too."
26 Então o vigia viu outro homem correndo sozinho e gritou para o guarda do portão: — Veja! Vem vindo outro homem correndo! — Esse também está trazendo boas notícias! — respondeu Davi.
27 The watchman said, "It seems to me that the first one runs like Ahimaaz son of Zadok." "He's a good man," the king said. "He comes with good news."
27 O vigia disse: — Pelo jeito de correr, o primeiro homem deve ser Aimaás, filho de Zadoque! — Ele é um bom rapaz — disse o rei — e deve estar trazendo boas notícias.
28 Then Ahimaaz called out to the king, "All is well!" He bowed down before the king with his face to the ground and said, "Praise be to the LORD your God! He has delivered up those who lifted their hands against my lord the king."
28 Aimaás gritou para o rei: — Tudo vai bem! Então ajoelhou-se diante dele e encostou o rosto no chão, dizendo: — Que o
29 The king asked, "Is the young man Absalom safe?" Ahimaaz answered, "I saw great confusion just as Joab was about to send the king's servant and me, your servant, but I don't know what it was."
29 — O jovem Absalão está bem? — perguntou o rei. Aimaás respondeu: — No momento em que o seu oficial Joabe me mandou vir, eu vi uma grande agitação, porém não sei dizer o que era.
30 The king said, "Stand aside and wait here." So he stepped aside and stood there.
30 — Fique de lado e espere! — disse o rei. Ele ficou de lado e esperou.
31 Then the Cushite arrived and said, "My lord the king, hear the good news! The LORD has vindicated you today by delivering you from the hand of all who rose up against you."
31 Então o mensageiro etíope chegou e disse ao rei: — Ó rei, eu tenho boas notícias para o senhor! Hoje o
32 The king asked the Cushite, "Is the young man Absalom safe?" The Cushite replied, "May the enemies of my lord the king and all who rise up to harm you be like that young man."
32 — E o jovem Absalão está bem? — perguntou o rei. O mensageiro respondeu: — Eu gostaria que o que aconteceu com ele acontecesse com todos os inimigos do senhor e com todos os que se revoltam contra o senhor.
33 The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you —O Absalom, my son, my son!" [^7]
33 Então o rei ficou profundamente triste. Subiu à sala que ficava por cima do portão e começou a chorar. Ele andava para lá e para cá e gritava: — Ó meu filho! Meu filho Absalão! Absalão, meu filho! Eu preferiria ter morrido no seu lugar, meu filho!
