1 When Jehoshaphat king of Judah returned safely to his palace in Jerusalem,
1 Josafá, rei de Judá, voltou para sua casa em paz, para Jerusalém.
2 Jehu the seer, the son of Hanani, went out to meet him and said to the king, "Should you help the wicked and love "those who hate the LORD? Because of this, the wrath of the LORD is on you.
2 O vidente Jeú, filho de Hanani, saiu ao encontro do rei Josafá e lhe disse: Devias tu ajudar ao perverso e amar aqueles que aborrecem o Senhor ? Por isso, caiu sobre ti a ira da parte do Senhor .
3 There is, however, some good in you, for you have rid the land of the Asherah poles and have set your heart on seeking God."
3 Boas coisas, contudo, se acharam em ti; porque tiraste os postes-ídolos da terra e dispuseste o coração para buscares a Deus.
4 Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and turned them back to the LORD, the God of their ancestors.
4 Habitou, pois, Josafá em Jerusalém; tornou a passar pelo povo desde Berseba até à região montanhosa de Efraim e fez que ele tornasse ao Senhor , Deus de seus pais.
5 He appointed judges in the land, in each of the fortified cities of Judah.
5 Estabeleceu juízes no país, em todas as cidades fortificadas, de cidade em cidade.
6 He told them, "Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the LORD, who is with you whenever you give a verdict.
6 Disse aos juízes: Vede o que fazeis, porque não julgais da parte do homem, e sim da parte do Senhor , e, no julgardes, ele está convosco.
7 Now let the fear of the LORD be on you. Judge carefully, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery."
7 Agora, pois, seja o temor do Senhor convosco; tomai cuidado e fazei-o, porque não há no Senhor , nosso Deus, injustiça, nem parcialidade, nem aceita ele suborno.
8 In Jerusalem also, Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites, priests and heads of Israelite families to administer the law of the LORD and to settle disputes. And they lived in Jerusalem.
8 Também, depois de terem voltado para Jerusalém, estabeleceu aí Josafá alguns dos levitas, e dos sacerdotes, e dos cabeças das famílias de Israel para julgarem da parte do Senhor e decidirem as sentenças contestadas.
9 He gave them these orders: "You must serve faithfully and wholeheartedly in the fear of the LORD.
9 Deu-lhes ordem, dizendo: Assim, andai no temor do Senhor , com fidelidade e inteireza de coração.
10 In every case that comes before you from your people who live in the cities —whether bloodshed or other concerns of the law, commands, decrees or regulations —you are to warn them not to sin against the LORD; otherwise his wrath will come on you and your people. Do this, and you will not sin.
10 Toda vez que vier a vós outros sentença contestada de vossos irmãos que habitam nas suas cidades: entre sangue e sangue, lei e mandamento, estatutos e juízos, admoestai-os, que não se façam culpados para com o Senhor , para que não venha grande ira sobre vós e sobre vossos irmãos; fazei assim e não vos tornareis culpados.
11 "Amariah the chief priest will be over you in any matter concerning the LORD, and Zebadiah son of Ishmael, the leader of the tribe of Judah, will be over you in any matter concerning the king, and the Levites will serve as officials before you. Act with courage, and may the LORD be with those who do well."
11 Eis que Amarias, o sumo sacerdote, presidirá nas coisas que dizem respeito ao Senhor ; e Zebadias, filho de Ismael, príncipe da casa de Judá, nas que dizem respeito ao rei. Também os levitas serão oficiais à vossa disposição. Sede fortes no cumprimento disso, e o Senhor será com os bons.
