1 Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.
1 Tendo o sacerdote Fassur, filho de Emer, que era superintendente do templo, ouvido o profeta Jeremias pronunciar esse oráculo,
2 Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of the Lord.
2 mandou espancá-lo e pô-lo em grilhões na porta superior de Benjamim, que se encontra no templo do Senhor.
3 It happened on the next day, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, "The Lord has not called your name 'Pashhur,' but 'Magormissabib.'
3 No dia seguinte, quando Fassur mandou libertá-lo, disse-lhe Jeremias: Não é mais Fassur que te chama o Senhor, mas sim Magor-Missabib.
4 For thus says the Lord, 'Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself, and to all your friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall see it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall kill them with the sword.
4 Pois assim diz o Senhor: vou fazer de ti objeto de pavor, para ti mesmo e teus amigos, os quais, sob teu olhar, perecerão à espada de seus inimigos. Entregarei Judá nas mãos do rei de Babilônia, que os deportará para Babilônia, onde os ferirá à espada.
5 Moreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all its gains, and all the precious things of it, yes, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies; and they shall make them a prey, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.
5 E entregarei todas as riquezas desta cidade, todo o produto de seu trabalho, todas as suas reservas preciosas e todos os tesouros dos reis de Judá, nas mãos de seus inimigos, que os tomarão como presa, e os levarão para Babilônia.
6 You, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house shall go into captivity; and you shall come to Babylon, and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried, you, and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied falsely.'"
6 E tu, Fassur, serás arrastado, com tua família, para o cativeiro. Irás a Babilônia para lá morrerem e serem enterrados tu e teus amigos, aos quais proferiste falsos oráculos.
7 Lord, you have persuaded me, and I was persuaded; you are stronger than I, and have prevailed: I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocks me.
7 Seduzistes-me, Senhor; e eu me deixei seduzir! Dominastes-me e obtivestes o triunfo. Sou objeto de contínua irrisão, e todos zombam de mim.
8 For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, "Violence and destruction!" because the word of the Lord is made a reproach to me, and a derision, all the day.
8 Cada vez que falo é para proclamar a aproximação da violência e devastação. E dia a dia a palavra do Senhor converte-se para mim em insultos e escárnios.
9 If I say, "I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name," then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I can't contain it.
9 E, a mim mesmo, eu disse: Não mais o mencionarei e nem falarei em seu nome. Mas em meu seio havia um fogo devorador que se me encerrara nos ossos. Esgotei-me em refreá-lo, e não o consegui.
10 For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. "Denounce, and we will denounce him," say all my familiar friends, those who watch for my fall; "perhaps he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him."
10 Ouço as invectivas da multidão: Cerca-nos o terror! Denunciai-o! Vamos denunciá-lo! Os que eram meus amigos espiam-me agora os passos. Se cair em abusos, tiraremos vantagem, e dele nos vingaremos.
11 But the Lord is with me as an awesome mighty one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly disappointed, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten.
11 O Senhor, porém, está comigo, qual poderoso guerreiro. Por isso, longe de triunfar, serão esmagados meus perseguidores. Sua queda os mergulhará na confusão. Será, então, a vergonha eterna, inesquecível.
12 But, the Lord of hosts, who tests the righteous, who sees the heart and the mind, let me see your vengeance on them; for to you have I revealed my cause.
12 Senhor, Deus dos exércitos, vós que sondais o justo, e que escrutais os rins e os corações, concedei-me o poder de contemplar a vingança que deles ides tirar! Pois em vossas mãos depositei a minha causa.
13 Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord; for he has delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evildoers.
13 Cantai ao Senhor, glorificai-o, porque salvou a vida do miserável das mãos do mau.
14 Cursed is the day in which I was born: do not let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed.
14 Maldito o dia em que nasci! Nem abençoado seja o dia em que minha mãe me deu à luz.
15 Cursed is the man who brought news to my father, saying, A boy is born to you; making him very glad.
15 Maldito o homem que levou a notícia a meu pai e que o cumulou de felicidade ao dizer-lhe: Nasceu-te um menino!
16 Let that man be as the cities which the Lord overthrew, and did not repent: and let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime;
16 A ele suceda o que às cidades aconteceu, que o Senhor sem piedade aniquilou! Desde o alvorecer ouça os gritos de alarme e o fragor da batalha ao meio-dia.
17 because he did not kill me from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.
17 Por que não me matou, antes de eu sair do ventre materno?! Minha mãe teria sido meu túmulo e eu ficaria para sempre guardado em suas entranhas!
18 Why came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
18 Por que saí do seu seio? Para só contemplar tormentos e misérias, e na vergonha consumir meus dias?
