1 The Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.
1 Apareceu o Senhor a Abraão nos carvalhais de Manre, quando ele estava assentado à entrada da tenda, no maior calor do dia.
2 He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood opposite him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,
2 Levantou ele os olhos, olhou, e eis três homens de pé em frente dele. Vendo-os, correu da porta da tenda ao seu encontro, prostrou-se em terra
3 and said, "My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please do not go away from your servant.
3 e disse: Senhor meu, se acho mercê em tua presença, rogo-te que não passes do teu servo;
4 Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
4 traga-se um pouco de água, lavai os pés e repousai debaixo desta árvore;
5 I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant."They said, "Very well, do as you have said."
5 trarei um bocado de pão; refazei as vossas forças, visto que chegastes até vosso servo; depois, seguireis avante. Responderam: Faze como disseste.
6 Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Quickly make ready three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes."
6 Apressou-se, pois, Abraão para a tenda de Sara e lhe disse: Amassa depressa três medidas de flor de farinha e faze pão assado ao borralho.
7 Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.
7 Abraão, por sua vez, correu ao gado, tomou um novilho, tenro e bom, e deu-o ao criado, que se apressou em prepará-lo.
8 He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.
8 Tomou também coalhada e leite e o novilho que mandara preparar e pôs tudo diante deles; e permaneceu de pé junto a eles debaixo da árvore; e eles comeram.
9 They said to him, "Where is Sarah, your wife?He said, "See, in the tent."
9 Então, lhe perguntaram: Sara, tua mulher, onde está? Ele respondeu: Está aí na tenda.
10 Then he said, "I will certainly return to you when the season comes round. Behold, Sarah your wife will have a son."Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.
10 Disse um deles: Certamente voltarei a ti, daqui a um ano; e Sara, tua mulher, dará à luz um filho. Sara o estava escutando, à porta da tenda, atrás dele.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. It had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
11 Abraão e Sara eram já velhos, avançados em idade; e a Sara já lhe havia cessado o costume das mulheres.
12 Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?"
12 Riu-se, pois, Sara no seu íntimo, dizendo consigo mesma: Depois de velha, e velho também o meu senhor, terei ainda prazer?
13 The Lord said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?'
13 Disse o Senhor a Abraão: Por que se riu Sara, dizendo: Será verdade que darei ainda à luz, sendo velha?
14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round, and Sarah will have a son."
14 Acaso, para o Senhor há coisa demasiadamente difícil? Daqui a um ano, neste mesmo tempo, voltarei a ti, e Sara terá um filho.
15 Then Sarah denied, saying, "I did not laugh," for she was afraid.He said, "No, but you did laugh."
15 Então, Sara, receosa, o negou, dizendo: Não me ri. Ele, porém, disse: Não é assim, é certo que riste.
16 The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.
16 Tendo-se levantado dali aqueles homens, olharam para Sodoma; e Abraão ia com eles, para os encaminhar.
17 The Lord said, "Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
17 Disse o Senhor : Ocultarei a Abraão o que estou para fazer,
18 seeing that Abraham has surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?
18 visto que Abraão certamente virá a ser uma grande e poderosa nação, e nele serão benditas todas as nações da terra?
19 For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that the Lord may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him."
19 Porque eu o escolhi para que ordene a seus filhos e a sua casa depois dele, a fim de que guardem o caminho do Senhor e pratiquem a justiça e o juízo; para que o Senhor faça vir sobre Abraão o que tem falado a seu respeito.
20 The Lord said, "Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,
20 Disse mais o Senhor : Com efeito, o clamor de Sodoma e Gomorra tem-se multiplicado, e o seu pecado se tem agravado muito.
21 I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know."
21 Descerei e verei se, de fato, o que têm praticado corresponde a esse clamor que é vindo até mim; e, se assim não é, sabê-lo-ei.
22 The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before the Lord.
22 Então, partiram dali aqueles homens e foram para Sodoma; porém Abraão permaneceu ainda na presença do Senhor .
23 Abraham drew near, and said, "Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?
23 E, aproximando-se a ele, disse: Destruirás o justo com o ímpio?
24 What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?
24 Se houver, porventura, cinquenta justos na cidade, destruirás ainda assim e não pouparás o lugar por amor dos cinquenta justos que nela se encontram?
25 Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn't the Judge of all the earth do right?"
25 Longe de ti o fazeres tal coisa, matares o justo com o ímpio, como se o justo fosse igual ao ímpio; longe de ti. Não fará justiça o Juiz de toda a terra?
26 The Lord said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake."
26 Então, disse o Senhor : Se eu achar em Sodoma cinquenta justos dentro da cidade, pouparei a cidade toda por amor deles.
27 Abraham answered, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, who am but dust and ashes.
27 Disse mais Abraão: Eis que me atrevo a falar ao Senhor, eu que sou pó e cinza.
28 What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?"He said, "I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there."
28 Na hipótese de faltarem cinco para cinquenta justos, destruirás por isso toda a cidade? Ele respondeu: Não a destruirei se eu achar ali quarenta e cinco.
29 He spoke to him yet again, and said, "What if there are forty found there?"He said, "I will not do it for the forty's sake."
29 Disse-lhe ainda mais Abraão: E se, porventura, houver ali quarenta? Respondeu: Não o farei por amor dos quarenta.
30 He said, "Oh do not let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?"He said, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there."
30 Insistiu: Não se ire o Senhor, falarei ainda: Se houver, porventura, ali trinta? Respondeu o Senhor : Não o farei se eu encontrar ali trinta.
31 He said, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?"He said, "I will not destroy it for the twenty's sake."
31 Continuou Abraão: Eis que me atrevi a falar ao Senhor: Se, porventura, houver ali vinte? Respondeu o Senhor : Não a destruirei por amor dos vinte.
32 He said, "Oh do not let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?"He said, "I will not destroy it for the ten's sake."
32 Disse ainda Abraão: Não se ire o Senhor, se lhe falo somente mais esta vez: Se, porventura, houver ali dez? Respondeu o Senhor : Não a destruirei por amor dos dez.
33 The Lord went his way, as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
33 Tendo cessado de falar a Abraão, retirou-se o Senhor ; e Abraão voltou para o seu lugar.
