1 As these promises are ours, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and of spirit, and perfect our holiness in the fear of God.
1 Amados, visto que temos essas promessas, purifiquemo-nos de tudo o que contamina o corpo e o espírito, aperfeiçoando a santidade no temor de Deus.
2 Make room for me in your hearts! I have wronged no man, I have ruined no man, I have defrauded no man.
2 Concedam-nos lugar no coração de vocês. A ninguém prejudicamos, a ninguém causamos dano, a ninguém exploramos.
3 I am not saying this to blame you, for as I have already said, I hold you in my heart to live together and to die together.
3 Não digo isso para condená-los; já lhes disse que vocês estão em nosso coração para juntos morrermos ou vivermos.
4 Great is my faith in you; great is my cheerful assurance in you. I am filled with comfort; in spite of all my troubles, my heart is overflowing with joy.
4 Tenho grande confiança em vocês, e de vocês tenho muito orgulho. Sinto-me bastante encorajado; minha alegria transborda em todas as tribulações.
5 For even after I reached Macedonia, my flesh had no rest, but I was troubled on every hand. Without were fights; within were, fears.
5 Pois, quando chegamos à Macedônia, não tivemos nenhum descanso, mas fomos atribulados de toda forma: conflitos externos, temores internos.
6 But the God who comforts the down-hearted comforted me by the coming of Titus,
6 Deus, porém, que consola os abatidos, consolou-nos com a chegada de Tito,
7 and not alone by his coming, but also by the comfort you had been to him. For he told me of your eager longing, of your penitence, and of your zeal on my behalf, so that I was happier still.
7 e não apenas com a vinda dele, mas também com a consolação que vocês lhe ministraram. Ele nos falou da saudade, da tristeza e da preocupação de vocês por mim, de modo que a minha alegria se tornou ainda maior.
8 Even if I caused you pain by my letter, I do not regret; though I did regret it when I saw that my letter had caused you pain, even for a time.
8 Mesmo que a minha carta lhes tenha causado tristeza, não me arrependo. É verdade que a princípio me arrependi, pois percebi que a minha carta os entristeceu, ainda que por pouco tempo. 9 Agora, porém, me alegro, não porque vocês foram entristecidos, mas porque a tristeza os levou ao arrependimento. Pois vocês se entristeceram como Deus desejava, e de forma alguma foram prejudicados por nossa causa.
9 But now I am glad; not because you were pained; but because your pain led you to repentance.
9 A tristeza segundo Deus produz um arrependimento que leva à salvação e não remorso, mas a tristeza segundo o mundo produz morte.
10 For your pain came from God, and so you took no harm from me. For the pain which is from God works repentance leading to salvation, a repentance never to be regretted. But the worlds pain works death.
10 Vejam o que esta tristeza segundo Deus produziu em vocês: que dedicação, que desculpas, que indignação, que temor, que saudade, que preocupação, que desejo de ver a justiça feita! Em tudo vocês se mostraram inocentes a esse respeito.
11 Note the results of this pain which God permitted; what earnestness it has called forth in you, what explanations, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what fervor, what punishment of wrong. In every way you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.
11 Assim, se lhes escrevi, não foi por causa daquele que cometeu o erro nem daquele que foi prejudicado, mas para que diante de Deus vocês pudessem ver por si próprios como são dedicados a nós.
12 So then, even if I did write to you, it was not for the sake of the wrong-doer, or of him who had been wronged, but to make clear to yourselves in the sight of God your earnest care for me.
12 Por isso tudo fomos revigorados.
13 This is what comforts me. In addition to this comfort of mine, I have been made still happier by the happiness of Titus; because his spirit was refreshed by you all.
13 de encorajados, ficamos mais contentes ainda ao ver como Tito estava alegre, porque seu espírito recebeu refrigério de todos vocês.
14 Although I have been boasting a little to him about you, I have not been put to shame. But as in every matter I have spoken the truth to you, so also my boast to Titus has been proved to be the truth.
14 Eu lhe tinha dito que estava orgulhoso de vocês, e vocês não me decepcionaram. Da mesma forma como era verdade tudo o que lhes dissemos, o orgulho que temos de vocês diante de Tito também mostrou-se verdadeiro.
15 And his tender affection is all the greater toward you, when he calls to mind the obedience of you all, and the fear and trembling with which you received him.
15 E a afeição dele por vocês fica maior ainda, quando lembra que todos vocês foram obedientes, recebendo-o com temor e tremor.
16 I rejoice that I have complete confidence in you.
16 Alegro-me por poder ter plena confiança em vocês.
