1 Deposta dunque ogni malizia ed ogni inganno, le ipocrisie, le invidie ed ogni maldicenza,
1 Deponde, pois, toda malícia, toda astúcia, fingimentos, invejas e toda espécie de maledicência.
2 come bambini appena nati, desiderate ardentemente il puro latte della parola, affinché per suo mezzo cresciate,
2 as newborn babes desire earnestly the pure mental milk of the word, that by it ye may grow up to salvation,
3 se pure avete gustato che il Signore è buono.
3 if indeed ye have tasted that the Lord {is} good.
4 Accostandovi a lui, come a pietra vivente, rigettata dagli uomini ma eletta e preziosa davanti a Dio,

5 anche voi, come pietre viventi, siete edificati per essere una casa spirituale, un sacerdozio santo, per offrire sacrifici spirituali, graditi a Dio per mezzo di Gesú Cristo.
5 yourselves also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Nella Scrittura si legge infatti: »Ecco io pongo in Sion una pietra angolare, eletta, preziosa, e chi crede in essa non sarà affatto svergognato«.
6 Because it is contained in the scripture: Behold, I lay in Zion a corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be put to shame.
7 Per voi dunque che credete essa è preziosa, ma per coloro che disubbidiscono: »La pietra, che gli edificatori hanno rigettato, è divenuta la testata dangolo, pietra dinciampo e roccia dintoppo che li fa cadere«.
7 To you therefore who believe {is} the preciousness; but to the disobedient, the stone which the builders cast away as worthless, this is become head of {the} corner,
8 Essendo disubbidienti, essi inciampano nella parola, e a questo sono altresí stati destinati.
8 and a stone of stumbling and rock of offence; {who} stumble at the word, being disobedient to which also they have been appointed.
9 Ma voi siete una stirpe eletta, un regale sacerdozio, una gente santa, un popolo acquistato per Dio, affinché proclamiate le meraviglie di colui che vi ha chiamato dalle tenebre alla sua mirabile luce;
9 But *ye* {are} a chosen race, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a people for a possession, that ye might set forth the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness to his wonderful light;
10 voi, che un tempo non eravate un popolo, ma ora siete il popolo di Dio; voi, che non avevate ottenuto misericordia, ma ora avete ottenuto misericordia.
10 who once {were} not a people, but now God's people; who were not enjoying mercy, but now have found mercy.
11 Carissimi, io vi esorto, come stranieri e pellegrini, ad astenervi dai desideri della carne che guerreggiano contro lanima.
11 Beloved, I exhort {you}, as strangers and sojourners, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12 Comportatevi bene fra i gentili affinché, là dove vi accusano di essere dei malfattori, a motivo delle buone opere che osservano in voi, possano glorificare Dio nel giorno della visitazione.
12 having your conversation honest among the Gentiles, that {as to that} in which they speak against you as evildoers, they may through {your} good works, {themselves} witnessing {them}, glorify God in {the} day of visitation.
13 Sottomettetevi dunque per amore del Signore ad ogni autorità costituita: sia al re come al sovrano,

14 sia ai governatori, come mandati da lui per punire i malfattori e per lodare quelli che fanno il bene,
14 or to rulers as sent by him, for vengeance on evildoers, and praise to them that do well.
15 perché questa è la volontà di Dio, che, facendo il bene, turiate la bocca allignoranza degli uomini stolti.
15 Because so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye put to silence the ignorance of senseless men;
16 Comportatevi come uomini liberi, non facendo uso della libertà come di un pretesto per coprire la malvagità, ma come servi di Dio.
16 as free, and not as having liberty as a cloak of malice, but as God's bondmen.
17 Onorate tutti, amate la fratellanza, temete Dio, rendete onore al re.
17 Shew honour to all, love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king.
18 Servi, siate con ogni timore sottomessi ai vostri padroni, non solo ai buoni e giusti, ma anche agli ingiusti,
18 Servants, {be} subject with all fear to your masters, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the ill-tempered.
19 perché è cosa lodevole se uno, per motivo di coscienza davanti a Dio, sopporta afflizioni soffrendo ingiustamente.
19 For this {is} acceptable, if one, for conscience sake towards God, endure griefs, suffering unjustly.
20 Che gloria sarebbe infatti se sopportate pazientemente delle battiture, quando siete colpevoli? Ma se sopportate pazientemente delle battiture quando agite bene, questa è cosa gradita a Dio.
20 For what glory {is it}, if sinning and being buffeted ye shall bear {it}? but if, doing good and suffering, ye shall bear {it}, this is acceptable with God.
21 A questo infatti siete stati chiamati, perché Cristo ha sofferto per noi, lasciandoci un esempio, affinché seguitate le sue orme.
21 For to this have ye been called; for Christ also has suffered for you, leaving you a model that ye should follow in his steps:
22 »Egli non commise alcun peccato e non fu trovato alcun inganno nella sua bocca«,
22 who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth;
23 Oltraggiato, non rispondeva con oltraggi; soffrendo, non minacciava, ma si rimetteva nelle mani di colui che giudica giustamente.
23 who, {when} reviled, reviled not again; {when} suffering, threatened not; but gave {himself} over into the hands of him who judges righteously;
24 Egli stesso portò i nostri peccati nel suo corpo sul legno della croce, affinché noi, morti al peccato, viviamo per la giustizia; e per le sue lividure siete stati guariti.
24 who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, in order that, being dead to sins, we may live to righteousness: by whose stripes ye have been healed.
25 Eravate infatti come pecore erranti, ma ora siete tornati al pastore e custode delle anime vostre.
25 For ye were going astray as sheep, but have now returned to the shepherd and overseer of your souls.
