1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius that the word of the Lord came unto Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, in Kislev;
1 No quarto ano do rei Dario, veio a palavra do Senhor a Zacarias, no dia quarto do nono mês, que é quisleu.
2 When they had sent unto Bethel Sherezer and Regemmelech, and his men, to make entreaty before the Lord.
2 Quando de Betel foram enviados Sarezer, e Regém-Meleque, e seus homens, para suplicarem o favor do Senhor ,
3 And to say unto the priests who were in the house of the Lord of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Shall I weep in the fifth month with abstinence, as I have done already these many years?
3 perguntaram aos sacerdotes, que estavam na Casa do Senhor dos Exércitos, e aos profetas: Continuaremos nós a chorar, com jejum, no quinto mês, como temos feito por tantos anos?
4 Then came the word of the Lord of hosts unto me, saying,
4 Então, a palavra do Senhor dos Exércitos me veio a mim, dizendo:
5 Say unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, as followeth, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month, already these seventy years, did ye in anywise fast for me, yea, for me?
5 Fala a todo o povo desta terra e aos sacerdotes: Quando jejuastes e pranteastes, no quinto e no sétimo mês, durante estes setenta anos, acaso, foi para mim que jejuastes, com efeito, para mim?
6 And if ye do eat, and if ye do drink, are ye not yourselves those that eat, and yourselves those that drink?
6 Quando comeis e bebeis, não é para vós mesmos que comeis e bebeis?
7 Are not these the words which the Lord hath proclaimed by means of the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, with her cities round about her, when men inhabited the south, and the lowlands?
7 Não ouvistes vós as palavras que o Senhor pregou pelo ministério dos profetas que nos precederam, quando Jerusalém estava habitada e em paz com as suas cidades ao redor dela, e o Sul e a campina eram habitados?
8 And the word of the Lord came unto Zechariah, saying,
8 A palavra do Senhor veio a Zacarias, dizendo:
9 Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, saying, Execute true justice, and show kindness and mercy every man to his brother;
9 Assim falara o Senhor dos Exércitos: Executai juízo verdadeiro, mostrai bondade e misericórdia, cada um a seu irmão;
10 And defraud not the widow, or the fatherless, the stranger, or the poor; and imagine not evil in your heart one against the other.
10 não oprimais a viúva, nem o órfão, nem o estrangeiro, nem o pobre, nem intente cada um, em seu coração, o mal contra o seu próximo.
11 But they refused to listen, and turned away rebelliously the shoulder, and stopped their ears, so as not to hear;
11 Eles, porém, não quiseram atender e, rebeldes, me deram as costas e ensurdeceram os ouvidos, para que não ouvissem.
12 And their heart they rendered as an adamant, so as not to hear the law, and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent through his spirit, by means of the former prophets: wherefore came a great anger from the Lord of hosts.
12 Sim, fizeram o seu coração duro como diamante, para que não ouvissem a lei, nem as palavras que o Senhor dos Exércitos enviara pelo seu Espírito, mediante os profetas que nos precederam; daí veio a grande ira do Senhor dos Exércitos.
13 And it is come to pass, that as he proclaimed, and they would not hear: so had they to call, and I would not hear, saith the Lord of hosts;
13 Visto que eu clamei, e eles não me ouviram, eles também clamaram, e eu não os ouvi, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.
14 And I resolved to scatter them with a stormwind among all the nations that they had not known; and the land was left desolate after them, without any one to pass through it forward or backward; and the pleasant land have they changed into a desert.
14 Espalhei-os com um turbilhão por entre todas as nações que eles não conheceram; e a terra foi assolada atrás deles, de sorte que ninguém passava por ela, nem voltava; porque da terra desejável fizeram uma desolação.
