1 The word of the Lord which came unto Zephanyah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedalyah, the son of Amaryah, the son of Chizkiyah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon the king of Judah.
1 O S enhor deu esta mensagem a Sofonias quando Josias, filho de Amom, era rei de Judá. Sofonias era filho de Cuchi, filho de Gedalias, filho de Amarias, filho de Ezequias.
2 I will remove, utterly remove all things from off the face of the earth, saith the Lord.
2 “Destruirei todas as coisas sobre a face da terra”, diz o S
3 I will remove man and beast; I will remove the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling blocks together with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the face of the earth, saith the Lord.
3 “Destruirei tanto pessoas como animais, destruirei as aves do céu e os peixes do mar. Reduzirei os perversos a montes de escombros e exterminarei a humanidade da face da terra”, diz o S
4 And I will stretch out my hand over Judah, and over all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, the name of his ministers with his priests;
4 “Esmagarei Judá e Jerusalém com meu punho e eliminarei até o último vestígio de seu culto a Baal. Acabarei com os sacerdotes idólatras, de modo que todos se esquecerão deles.
5 And those that bow themselves down on the roofs of houses to the host of heaven; and those that bow themselves down that are sworn to be true to the Lord and still swear by Malkom;
5 Pois eles sobem a seus terraços e se curvam para as estrelas e os astros. Juram pelo nome do S mas também adoram Moloque.
6 And those that are turned away from following the Lord; and those that have not sought for the Lord, and have not inquired of him.
6 Destruirei os que antes seguiam o S enhor , mas agora já não o fazem. Não pedem a direção do S nem o buscam mais.”
7 Be silent in the presence of the Lord Eternal; for nigh is the day of the Lord; for the Lord hath prepared a slaughter, he hath bidden his invited guests.
7 Fiquem em silêncio na presença do S enhor Soberano, pois se aproxima o dia do S O S e escolheu seus carrascos.
8 And it shall come to pass on the day of the Lords slaughter, that I will inflict punishment on the princes, and on the kings sons, and on all such as are clothed in garments of a foreign land.
8 “Naquele dia de julgamento”, diz o S enhor , “castigarei os líderes e os príncipes de Judá e todos que seguem costumes estrangeiros.
9 And I will inflict punishment on all those that leap over the threshold on that day, who fill the house of their master with violence and deceit.
9 Sim, castigarei os que participam de cultos idólatras e enchem a casa de seus senhores de violência e engano.”
10 And it shall come to pass on that day, saith the Lord, that there shall be a loud cry of lamentation from the fishgate, and a wailing from the second, and that of a great breach from the hills.
10 “Naquele dia”, diz o S enhor , “um grito de alarme virá do portão dos Peixes e ressoará em todo o bairro novo um grande estrondo virá das colinas.
11 Wail, ye inhabitants of the mortarstreet, for destroyed are all the trading people; cut off are all that were laden with silver.
11 Lamentem, vocês que moram na região do mercado, pois todos os comerciantes e negociantes serão destruídos.
12 And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem through with lights; and I will inflict punishment on the men that are at rest on their lees, that say in their heart, The Lord will not do good, nor will he do evil.
12 “Vasculharei com lamparinas os cantos mais escuros de Jerusalém, para castigar os que vivem acomodados em seus pecados. Pensam que o S nem boa nem má.
13 And their wealth shall become a booty, and their houses shall be made desolate; and they will build houses, but they shall not inhabit them; and they will plant vineyards, but they shall not drink their wine.
13 Por isso, seus bens serão saqueados, e suas casas, destruídas. Construirão casas novas, mas não habitarão nelas. Plantarão videiras, mas não beberão de seu vinho.
14 Nigh is the great day of the Lord, it is nigh, and hasteneth greatly, there is the noise of the day of the Lord: bitterly crieth there the mighty man.
14 “Esse dia terrível do S enhor se aproxima; ele virá depressa. Será um dia de amargura em que até os homens fortes gritarão.
15 A day of wrath is that day, a day of distress and anxiety, a day of wasting and desolation, a day of darkness and obscurity, a day of clouds and tempestuous gloom,
15 Será um dia em que o S enhor derramará sua ira, dia de sofrimento e angústia, dia de ruína e desolação, dia de escuridão e trevas, dia de nuvens sombrias e densas,
16 A day of the cornet and alarm, against the fenced cities, and against the high battlements.
16 dia de toque de trombetas e gritos de batalha. Caem as cidades cercadas por muros e as fortalezas mais poderosas!
17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk about like the blind, because against the Lord have they sinned: and their blood shall be poured out like the dust, and their flesh like the dung.
17 “Porque pecaram contra o S enhor , eu os farei tatear no escuro como cegos. Seu sangue será derramado no pó, e seus corpos apodrecerão sobre a terra.”
18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the Lords wrath; through the fire of whose zeal the whole land shall be devoured; for destruction, yea, quite sudden, will he prepare for all the inhabitants of the land.
18 Seu ouro e sua prata não os salvarão no dia da ira do S Pois toda a terra será consumida pelo fogo de seu zelo. Ele dará um fim assustador a todos que habitam a terra.
