1 And it came to pass that as the people complained in a manner displeasing in the ears of the Lord, the Lord heard it, and his anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed at the uttermost part of the camp.
1 Por estarem passando por muitas dificuldades, os israelitas começaram a se queixar a Deus, o Senhor . Quando o Senhor ouviu as suas reclamações, ficou irado e fez cair fogo em cima deles. O fogo queimou no meio deles e destruiu uma ponta do acampamento.
2 And the people then cried unto Moses; and Moses prayed unto the Lord, and the fire disappeared.
2 Então o povo gritou, pedindo socorro a Moisés; Moisés orou ao Senhor , e o fogo se apagou.
3 And he called the name of the place Taberah; because the fire of the Lord had burnt among them.
3 Aí puseram naquele lugar o nome de Taberá porque ali o fogo do Senhor havia queimado no meio deles.
4 And the mixed multitude that was among them felt a lustful longing: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who will give us flesh to eat?
4 Havia estrangeiros viajando com os israelitas. Eles estavam com muita vontade de comer carne, e até mesmo os israelitas começaram a reclamar, dizendo: — Ah, se tivéssemos um pouco de carne para comer!
5 We remember the fish, which we could eat in Egypt for naught; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic;
5 No Egito comíamos quanto peixe queríamos, e era de graça. E que saudades dos pepinos, dos melões, das verduras, das cebolas e dos alhos!
6 But now our soul is faint: there is nothing at all, only to the manna are our eyes directed.
6 Mas agora acabaram-se as nossas forças. Não há mais nada para comer, e a única coisa que vemos é esse maná !
7 But the manna was like corianderseed, and its color as the color of the bdellium.
7 (O maná era parecido com pequenas sementes brancas, meio amareladas. Ele caía durante a noite, com o orvalho. No dia seguinte de manhã, o povo ia apanhá-lo em volta do acampamento. Eles o moíam em moinhos ou o socavam em pilões, cozinhavam numa panela e faziam pães achatados que tinham gosto de pão assado com azeite.)
8 The people went about and gathered it, and ground it in a mill, or pounded it in a mortar, and boiled it in a pot, or made cakes of it: and its taste was as the taste of cakes mixed with oil.

9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.

10 And Moses heard the people weep according to their families, every man at the door of his tent: and the anger of the Lord was kindled greatly; and in the eyes of Moses also was it displeasing.
10 Então Moisés ouviu o choro do povo. Cada família chorava na entrada da sua barraca. O Senhor ficou muito irado . E Moisés também ficou aborrecido
11 And Moses said unto the Lord, Wherefore hast thou done evil to thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favor in thy eyes, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
11 e disse a Deus, o Senhor : — Por que me tens tratado tão mal? Por que estás aborrecido comigo? Por que me deste um trabalho tão pesado de dirigir todo este povo?
12 Was it I who have conceived all this people? or was it I who have begotten them? that thou shouldst say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou hast sworn unto their fathers?
12 Eu não fiz este povo, nem dei à luz esta gente! Por que me pedes que faça como uma babá e os carregue no colo como criancinhas para a terra que juraste dar aos seus antepassados?
13 Whence shall I obtain flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep around me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
13 Onde poderia eu conseguir carne para dar a todo este povo? Eles vêm chorar perto de mim e dizem que querem comer carne.
14 I am not able by myself alone to bear all this people, because it is too heavy for me.
14 Eu sozinho não posso cuidar de todo este povo; isso é demais para mim!
15 And if thou wilt thus deal with me, then slay me, I pray thee, at once, if I have found favor in thy eyes: that I may not see my wretchedness.
15 Se vais me tratar desse jeito, tem pena de mim e mata-me! Se gostas de mim, não deixes que eu continue sofrendo deste jeito!
16 And the Lord said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and its officers; and take them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall stand there with thee.
16 O Senhor Deus respondeu a Moisés: — Reúna para mim setenta homens, que você sabe que são líderes, entre os mais respeitados do povo de Israel; leve-os até a
17 And I will come down and speak with thee there: and I will take some of the spirit which is upon thee, and I will put it upon them; and they shall bear with thee the burden of the people, and thou shalt not bear it by thyself alone.
17 Então eu descerei e falarei com você ali; tirarei uma parte do Espírito que lhe dei e darei a eles, para que o ajudem no pesado trabalho de cuidar do povo. Assim, você não precisará fazer isso sozinho.
18 And unto the people shalt thou say, Hold yourselves ready against tomorrow, that ye may eat flesh; for ye have wept in the ears of the Lord, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was better with us in Egypt: thus will the Lord give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
18 Agora diga ao povo o seguinte: “Purifiquem-se para amanhã; vocês vão comer carne. O Senhor ouviu vocês chorando e dizendo que queriam carne e que passavam bem no Egito. Por isso o Senhor lhes dará carne, e vocês a comerão.
19 Not one day shall ye eat, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days;
19 E não comerão só um dia, nem dois, nem cinco, nem dez, nem vinte,
20 But up to a full month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it become loathsome unto you; because that ye have despised the Lord who is in the midst of you, and ye have wept before him, saying, Why did we come forth out of Egypt?
20 mas durante um mês inteiro, até que saia pelos seus narizes, e vocês ficarem com nojo. Pois vocês rejeitaram o Senhor , que está no meio de vocês, e se queixaram, dizendo que nunca deveriam ter saído do Egito.”
21 And Moses said, Six hundred thousand men on foot is the people, in the midst of whom I am; and yet thou hast said, Flesh will I give them, that they may eat a whole month.
21 Moisés disse: — Estou levando seiscentos mil homens, e tu dizes que vais dar a essa gente carne para comer o mês inteiro?
22 Shall flocks and herds be slain for them, that they may suffice for them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, that they may suffice for them?
22 Onde haveria tantas ovelhas e vacas para matar a fim de que todos ficassem satisfeitos? Será que todos os peixes do mar juntos poderiam alimentar essa gente?
23 And the Lord said unto Moses, Should the Lords hand be too short? now shalt thou see whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
23 Porém o Senhor Deus respondeu a Moisés: — Será que eu tenho tão pouco poder? Agora mesmo você verá se o que eu disse vai acontecer ou não.
24 And Moses went out, and spoke to the people the words of the Lord; and he assembled seventy men from the elders of the people, and placed them round about the tabernacle.
24 Então Moisés saiu e contou ao povo o que o Senhor tinha dito. Ele reuniu setenta líderes do povo e os pôs ao redor da Tenda.
25 And the Lord came down in a cloud and spoke unto him; and he took some of the spirit that was upon him, and put it upon the seventy men, the elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did not so any more.
25 Aí o Senhor desceu na nuvem e falou com ele. Deus tirou uma parte do Espírito que tinha dado a Moisés e deu aos setenta líderes. Quando o Espírito veio sobre eles, eles começaram a falar alto como profetas ; porém isso durou pouco tempo.
26 And there remained two men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad; and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of those that were written down, but they had not gone out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
26 Dois dos setenta líderes ficaram no acampamento e não foram até a Tenda Sagrada. Um se chamava Eldade, e o outro, Medade. O Espírito veio sobre eles, e eles também começaram a falar alto como profetas.
27 And there ran a young man, and told to Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.
27 Então um rapaz foi correndo contar que Eldade e Medade estavam profetizando no acampamento.
28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses from his youth, answered and said, My Lord Moses, forbid them.
28 Aí Josué, filho de Num, que desde a sua mocidade era auxiliar de Moisés, foi logo dizendo: — Moisés, meu chefe, não deixe que eles façam isso!
29 And Moses said unto him, Art thou zealous for my sake? And oh that one might render all the people of the Lord prophets, that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!
29 Moisés respondeu: — Por que você está preocupado com os meus direitos, quando eu é que deveria estar? Eu gostaria que o
30 And Moses retired back into thy camp, he with the elders of Israel.
30 Depois Moisés e os setenta líderes do povo de Israel voltaram para o acampamento.
31 And a wind went forth from the Lord, and drove up quails from the sea, and scattered them over the camp, about a days journey on this side, and about a days journey on the other side, round about the camp, and about two cubits high over the face of the earth.
31 De repente, o Senhor mandou um vento que trouxe do mar bandos de codornas. Elas caíram no acampamento e em volta, em todas as direções, a uma distância de uns trinta quilômetros; e cobriram o chão em montes de quase um metro de altura.
32 And the people arose all that day, and all that night, and all the following day, and they gathered the quails; he that had taken the least, had gathered ten chomers: and they spread them out for themselves round about the camp.
32 Assim, todo aquele dia, toda aquela noite e todo o dia seguinte o povo trabalhou catando codornas; ninguém juntou menos de mil quilos. E espalharam as codornas ao redor do acampamento para secar.
33 The flesh was yet between their teeth, it was not yet chewed: when the wrath of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord smote among the people a very great plague.
33 Quando ainda havia muita carne para comer, o Senhor ficou irado com o povo e os castigou com uma terrível epidemia, que matou muita gente.
34 And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah; because there they buried the people that had lustfully craved.
34 Por isso puseram naquele lugar o nome de Quibrote-Ataavá, que quer dizer “As Sepulturas do Desejo”; pois ali foram sepultadas as pessoas que estavam loucas de vontade de comer carne.
35 From Kibrothhattaavah the people journeyed unto Chazeroth; and they remained at Chazeroth.
35 Depois os israelitas foram até Hazerote e acamparam ali.
