Neemias 9

1 And on the twenty and fourth day of this month were the children of Israel assembled with fasting, and in sackclothes, and with earth upon them.
1 Ora, no dia vinte e quatro desse mês, se ajuntaram os filhos de Israel em jejum, vestidos de sacos e com terra sobre as cabeças.
2 And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all children of the strangers: and they stood forward and made confession for their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.
2 E os da linhagem de Israel se apartaram de todos os estrangeiros, puseram-se em pé e confessaram os seus pecados e as iniquidades de seus pais.
3 And they stood up in their standingplace, and read in the book of the law of the Lord their God the fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they made confession, and prostrated themselves before the Lord their God.
3 E, levantando-se no seu lugar, leram no livro da lei do Senhor seu Deus, uma quarta parte do dia; e outra quarta parte fizeram confissão, e adoraram ao Senhor seu Deus.
4 Then stood up upon the stairs of the Levites, Jeshua and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebanyah, Bunni, Sherebyah, Bani, and Kenani, and they cried with a loud voice unto the Lord their God.
4 Então Jesuá, Bani, Cadmiel, Sebanias, Buni, Serebias, Bani e Quenâni se puseram em pé sobre os degraus dos levitas, e clamaram em alta voz ao Senhor seu Deus.
5 Then said the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Chashabneyah, Sherebyah, Hodiyah, Shebanyah, and Pethachyah, Arise! bless ye the Lord your God from eternity to eternity. And let men bless thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.
5 E os levitas Jesuá, Cadmiel, Bani, Hasabnéias, Serebias, Hodias, Sebanias e Petaías disseram: Levantai-vos, bendizei ao Senhor vosso Deus de eternidade em eternidade. Bendito seja o teu glorioso nome, que está exaltado sobre toda benção e louvor.
6 Thou indeed art the Eternal One alone: It is thou that hast made the heavens with all their host, the earth, and all that is upon her, the seas, and all that is in them, and thou givest life to them all; and the host of the heavens bow down before thee.
6 Tu, só tu, és Senhor; tu fizeste o céu e o céu dos céus, juntamente com todo o seu exército, a terra e tudo quanto nela existe, os mares e tudo quanto neles já, e tu os conservas a todos, e o exército do céu te adora.
7 Thou art indeed the Lord the true God, who didst choose Abram, and bring him forth out of Ur of the Chaldeans, and change his name to Abraham;
7 Tu és o Senhor, o Deus que elegeste a Abrão, e o tiraste de Ur dos caldeus, e lhe puseste por nome Abraão;
8 And thou didst find his heart faithful before thee: and thou madest with him the covenant to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Emorites, and the Perizittes, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashiteto give it to his seed: and thou hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous.
8 e achaste o seu coração fiel perante ti, e fizeste com ele o pacto de que darias à sua descendência a terra dos cananeus, dos heteus, dos amorreus, dos perizeus, dos jebuseus e dos girgaseus; e tu cumpriste as tuas palavras, pois és justo.
9 And thou didst see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and their cry didst thou hear by the Red Sea;
9 Também viste a aflição de nossos pais no Egito, e ouviste o seu clamor junto ao Mar Vermelho;
10 And thou didst display signs and wonders on Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land: for thou knewest that they had dealt presumptuously against them; and thou didst thus make thyself a name, as it is this day.
10 e o operaste sinais e prodígios contra Faraó; e contra todos os seus servos, e contra todo o povo da sua terra; pois sabias com que soberba eles os haviam tratado; e assim adquiriste renome, como hoje se vê.
11 And the sea didst thou divide before them, so that they passed through the midst of the sea on dry land; and their pursuers didst thou throw into the deeps, like a stone in mighty waters.
11 Fendente o mar diante deles, de modo que passaram pelo meio do mar, em seco; e lançaste os seus perseguidores nas profundezas, como uma pedra nas águas impetuosas.
12 And by a pillar of cloud didst thou lead them in the day, and by a pillar of fire in the night, to give light unto them on the way whereon they should go.
12 Além disso tu os guiaste de dia por uma coluna de nuvem e de noite por uma coluna de fogo, para os alumiares no caminho por onde haviam de ir.
13 Also on mount Sinai camest thou down, and spokest with them from heaven; and thou gavest them upright ordinances, and truthful laws, good statutes and commandments;
13 Desceste sobre o monte Sinai, do céu falaste com eles, e lhes deste juízos retos e leis verdadeiras, bons estatutos e mandamentos;
14 And thy holy sabbath madest thou known unto them, and commandments, statutes, and a law didst thou enjoin on them, by the hand of Moses thy servant.
14 o teu santo sábado lhes fizeste conhecer; e lhes ordenaste mandamentos e estatutos e uma lei, por intermédio de teu servo Moisés.
15 And bread from heaven didst thou give them for their hunger, and water out of the rock broughtest thou forth for them for their thirst; and thou didst order them to go in to take possession of the land concerning which thou hadst lifted up thy hand to give it unto them.
15 Do céu lhes deste pão quando tiveram fome, e da rocha fizeste brotar água quando tiveram sede; e lhes ordenaste que entrassem para possuir a terra que com juramento lhes havias prometido dar.
16 And they and our fathers acted presumptuously, and hardened their neck, and hearkened not to thy commandments.
16 Eles, porém, os nossos pais, se houveram soberbamente e endureceram a cerviz, e não deram ouvidos aos teus mandamentos,
17 And they refused to obey, and remembered not thy marvelous deeds which thou hadst done with them; but they hardened their neck, and spoke of appointing a chief to return to their bondage, in their rebellion; but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, longsuffering, and abundant in kindness, and forsookest them not.
17 recusando ouvir-te e não se lembrando das tuas maravilhas, que fizeste no meio deles; antes endureceram a cerviz e, na sua rebeldia, levantaram um chefe, a fim de voltarem para sua servidão. Tu, porém, és um Deus pronto para perdoar, clemente e misericordioso, tardio em irar-te e grande em beneficência, e não os abandonaste.
18 Yea, although they had made for themselves a molten calf, and said, This is thy god that hath brought thee up out of Egypt, and had practised great provocations:
18 Ainda mesmo quando eles fizeram para si um bezerro de fundição, e disseram: Este é o teu Deus, que te tirou do Egito, e cometeram grandes blasfêmias,
19 Yet in thy abundant mercies didst thou not forsake them in the wilderness: the pillar of cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them on the way; nor the pillar of fire by night, to give them light on the way whereon they should go.
19 todavia tu, pela multidão das tuas misericórdias, não os abandonaste no deserto. A coluna de nuvem não se apartou deles de dia, para os guiar pelo caminho, nem a coluna de fogo de noite, para lhes alumiar o caminho por onde haviam de ir.
20 And thy good spirit thou gavest to make them intelligent, and thy manna thou withheldest not from their mouth, and water thou gavest them for their thirst.
20 Também lhes deste o teu bom espírito para os ensinar, e o teu maná não retiraste da tua boca, e água lhes deste quando tiveram sede.
21 And forty years didst thou provide for them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing; their clothes did not wear out; and their feet swelled not.
21 Sim, por quarenta anos os sustentaste no deserto; não lhes faltou coisa alguma; a sua roupa não envelheceu, e o seus pés não se incharam.
22 Thou gavest them also kingdoms and nations, which thou didst divide into various corners: and they took possession of the land of Sichon, even the land of the king of Cheshbon, and the land of Og the king of Bashan.
22 Além disso lhes deste reinos e povos, que lhes repartiste em porções; assim eles possuíram a terra de Siom, a saber; a terra do rei de Hesbom, e a terra de Ogue, rei de Basã.
23 And their children didst thou multiply like the stars of heaven, and then broughtest them into the land, concerning which thou hadst ordered their fathers to enter in to take possession of it.
23 Outrossim mulplicaste os seus filhos como as estrelas do céu, e os introduziste na terra de que tinhas dito a seus pais que nela entrariam para a possuírem.
24 And the children entered in and took possession of the land; and thou didst humble before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them up into their hands, with their kings, and the nations of the land, that they might do with them according to their pleasure.
24 Os filhos, pois, entraram e possuíram a terra; e abateste perante eles, os moradores da terra, os cananeus, e lhos entregaste nas mãos, como também os seus reis, e os povos da terra, para fazerem deles conforme a sua vontade.
25 And they captured fortified cities, and a fat soil; and they took possession of houses full of all good things, hewnout wells, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance; and they ate, and were satisfied, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.
25 Tomaram cidades fortificadas e uma terra fértil, e possuíram casas cheias de toda sorte de coisas boas, cisternas cavadas, vinhas e olivais, e árvores frutíferas em abundância; comeram, pois, fartaram-se e engordaram, e viveram em delícias, pela tua grande bondade.
26 Then became they disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their back, and they slew thy prophets who had warned them to bring them back unto thee, and they practised great provocations.
26 Não obstante foram desobedientes, e se rebelaram contra ti; lançaram a tua lei para trás das costas, e mataram os teus profetas que protestavam contra eles para que voltassem a ti; assim cometeram grandes provocações.
27 Thereupon thou gavest them up into the hand of their adversaries, who oppressed them: and in the time of their distress they used to cry unto thee, and thou ever heardest them from heaven; and according to thy abundant mercies thou wast wont to give them helpers, who helped them out of the hand of their adversaries.
27 Pelo que os entregaste nas mãos dos seus adversários, que os afligiram; mas no templo da sua angústia, quando eles clamaram a ti, tu os ouviste do céu; e segundo a multidão das tuas misericórdias lhes deste libertadores que os libertaram das mãos de seus adversários.
28 But when once more they had rest, they did again evil before thee: wherefore thou didst leave them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had dominion over them; and when they returned, and cried unto thee, thou wast wont to hear them from heaven, and thou didst ever deliver them according to thy mercies many times.
28 Mas, tendo alcançado repouso, tornavam a fazer o mal diante de ti,; portanto tu os deixavas nas mãos dos seus inimigos, de modo que estes dominassem sobre eles; todavia quando eles voltavam e clamavam a ti, tu os ouvias do céu, e segundo a tua misericórdia os livraste muitas vezes;
29 And thou gavest them warning to bring them back unto thy law: yet they acted presumptuously, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, and sinned against thy ordinances, which a man is to do that he may live through them: and they rendered their shoulder rebellious, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.
29 e testemunhaste contra eles, para os fazerdes voltar para a tua lei; contudo eles se houveram soberbamente, e não deram ouvidos aos teus mandamentos, mas pecaram contra os teus juízos, pelos quais viverá o homem que os cumprir; viraram o ombro, endureceram a cerviz e não quiseram ouvir.
30 Yet thou gavest them indulgence many years, and didst warn them through thy spirit by means of thy prophets; but they gave no ear: therefore didst thou give them up into the hand of the nations of the lands.
30 Não obstante, por muitos anos os aturaste, e testemunhaste contra eles pelo teu Espírito, por intermédio dos teus profetas; todavia eles não quiseram dar ouvidos; pelo que os entregaste nas mãos dos povos de outras terras.
31 Yet in thy abundant mercies hast thou not made an entire end of them, and thou hast not forsaken them; for a gracious and merciful God art thou.
31 Contudo pela tua grande misericórdia não os destruíste de todo, nem os abandonaste, porque és um Deus clemente e misericordioso.
32 And now, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest the covenant and kindness, let not be esteemed as little before thee all the hardship that hath befallen us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until this day.
32 Agora, pois, ó nosso Deus, Deus grande, poderoso e temível, que guardas o pacto e a beneficência, não tenhas em pouca conta toda a aflição que nos alcançou a nós, a nossos reis, a nossos príncipes, a nossos sacerdotes, a nossos profetas, a nossos pais e a todo o teu povo, desde os dias dos reis da Assíria até o dia de hoje.
33 Nevertheless thou art righteous in all that is come over us; for thou hast acted according to truth, but we have done wickedly.
33 Tu, porém, és justo em tudo quanto tem vindo sobre nós; pois tu fielmente procedeste, mas nós perversamente.
34 Also our kings, our priests, and our fathers have not executed thy law, and have not listened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst warn them.
34 Os nossos reis, os nossos príncipes, os nossos sacerdotes, e os nossos pais não têm guardado a tua lei, nem têm dado ouvidos aos teus mandamentos e aos teus testemunhos, com que testificaste contra eles.
35 But they in their kingdom, and in thy abundant goodness which thou hadst given unto them, and in the ample and fat land which thou hadst given up before them, did indeed not serve thee, and they turned not away from their wicked deeds.
35 Porque eles, no seu reino, na muita abundância de bens que lhes deste, na terra espaçosa e fértil que puseste diante deles, não te serviram, nem se converteram de suas más obras.
36 Behold, we are this day servants: and as regardeth the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat its fruit and its good things, behold, we are servants in it;
36 Eis que hoje somo escravos; e quanto à terra que deste a nossos pais, para comerem o seu fruto e o seu bem, eis que somos escravos nela.
37 And it yieldeth its products in abundance for the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins; also over our bodies have they dominion, and over our cattle also at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.
37 E ela multiplica os seus produtos para os reis que puseste sobre nós por causa dos nossos pecados; também eles dominam sobre os nossos corpos e sobre o nosso gado como bem lhes apraz, e estamos em grande angústia.
38 — ausente —
38 Contudo, por causa de tudo isso firmamos um pacto e o escrevemos; e selam-no os nossos príncipes, os nossos levitas e os nossos sacerdotes.
