1 And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the open place which is before the water–gate; and they said unto ‘Ezra the expounder that he should bring forward the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord commanded to Israel.
1 E todo o povo se reuniu como um só homem na rua que estava diante do portão da água; e eles falaram a Esdras, o escriba, para trazer o livro da lei de Moisés, a qual o SENHOR havia ordenado a Israel.
2 Then did ‘Ezra the priest bring forward the law before the congregation both of men and women, and every one that had understanding to listen attentively, on the first day of the seventh month;
2 E o sacerdote Esdras trouxe a lei diante da congregação, tanto de homens, quanto de mulheres, e de todos que podiam ouvir com entendimento, no primeiro dia do sétimo mês.
3 And he read therein in the open place which is before the water–gate from the first daylight until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand: and the ears of all the people were directed unto the book of the law.
3 E ele leu ali, diante da rua que estava diante do portão da água, desde a manhã até o meio-dia, diante dos homens e das mulheres, e daqueles que conseguiam entender; e os ouvidos de todo o povo estavam atentos ao livro da lei.
4 And ‘Ezra the expounder stood upon an elevated stand of wood, which they had made for the purpose: and beside him stood Matthithyah, and Shema’, and ‘Anayah, and Uriyah, and Chilkiyah, and Ma’asseyah, on his right hand; and on his left, Pedayah, and Mishael, and Malkiyah, and Chashum, and Chashbadanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
4 E Esdras, o escriba, pôs-se em pé sobre um púlpito de madeira, o qual eles haviam feito para o propósito; e ao seu lado pôs-se em pé à sua direita, Matitias, e Sema, e Anaías, e Urias, e Hilquias, e Maaseias; e à sua esquerda, Pedaías, e Misael, e Malquias, e Hasum, e Hasbadana, Zacarias e Mesulão.
5 And ‘Ezra opened the book before the eyes of all the people; for he was standing higher than all the people; and as he opened it, all the people became silent.
5 E Esdras abriu o livro à vista de todo o povo; (porque ele estava acima de todo o povo) e abrindo-o ele, todo o povo se pôs em pé;
6 And ‘Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God: and all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands; and they bowed their heads, and prostrated themselves before the Lord with their faces to the ground.
6 e Esdras bendisse o SENHOR, o grande Deus. E todo o povo respondeu: Amém, amém, erguendo as suas mãos; e eles curvaram as suas cabeças, e adoraram o SENHOR com as suas faces voltadas para o chão.
7 Also Jeshua’, and Bani, and Sherebyah, Jamin, ‘Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiyah, Ma’asseyah, Kelita, ‘Azaryah, Jozabad, Chanan, Pelayah, and the Levites, explained to the people the law: while the people remained where they stood.
7 Além disso Jesuá, e Bani, e Serebias, Jamim, Acube, Sabetai, Hodias, Maaseias, Quelita, Azarias, Jozabade, Hanã, Pelaías, e os levitas, fizeram com que o povo entendesse a lei; e o povo se pôs em pé no seu lugar.
8 So they read in the book, in the law of God distinctly, and exhibiting the sense: so that the people understood what was read.
8 Assim, eles liam no livro da lei de Deus distintamente, e davam sentido, e faziam com que eles entendessem a leitura.
9 Then said Nehemiah, that is the Thirshatha, and ‘Ezra the priest the expounder, and the Levites that explained to the people, unto all the people, This day is holy unto the Lord your God: mourn not, and weep not. For all the people were weeping, when they heard the words of the law.
9 E Neemias, que é o tirsata, e o sacerdote Esdras, o escriba, e os levitas que ensinavam o povo, disseram a todo o povo: Este dia é santo ao SENHOR vosso Deus; não vos lamenteis, nem pranteeis. Porque todo o povo chorou, quando ouviram as palavras da lei.
10 Then said he unto them, Go your way, eat fat things, and drink sweet drinks, and send portions unto him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy unto our Lord: and do not grieve yourselves; but let the joy of the Lord be your stronghold.
10 Então lhes disse: Segui o vosso caminho, comei a gordura, e bebei a doçura, e enviai porções para aqueles que nada foi preparado; porque este dia é santo ao nosso Senhor; nem estejais contritos; porquanto a alegria do SENHOR é a vossa força.
11 So the Levites quieted all the people, saying, Be still! for the day is holy: and do not grieve yourselves.
11 Assim, os levitas silenciaram todo o povo, dizendo: Retenhais a vossa paz, porque o dia é santo; tampouco fiqueis angustiados.
12 And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send out portions, and to prepare for themselves great joy: because they had understood the words which the others had made known unto them.
12 E todo o povo seguiu o seu caminho para comer, e beber, e para enviar porções, e para fazer grande júbilo, porque eles haviam entendido as palavras que lhes foram declaradas.
13 And on the second day there gathered themselves together the chiefs of the divisions of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto ‘Ezra the expounder, to obtain again intelligence of the words of the law.
13 E no segundo dia foram reunidos os chefes dos pais de todo o povo, os sacerdotes, e os levitas, a Esdras, o escriba; a saber, para entenderem as palavras da lei.
14 And they found written in the law that the Lord had commanded through means of Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths during the feast in the seventh month.
14 E eles acharam escrito na lei que o SENHOR havia ordenado por Moisés, que os filhos de Israel deveriam habitar em tendas na festa do sétimo mês;
15 And they ordered that they should publish and have proclamation made throughout all their cities, and through Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mountain and fetch olive–leaves, and oleaster–leaves, and myrtle–leaves, and palm–leaves, and leaves of the three–leaved myrtle, to make booths, as it is written.
15 e que eles deveriam publicar e proclamar em todas as suas cidades, e em Jerusalém, dizendo: Saí para o monte, e apanhai ramos de oliveira, e ramos de pinheiro, e ramos de murtas, e ramos de palmeira, e ramos de árvores espessas, para fazer tendas, como está escrito.
16 And the people went forth, and brought them; and they made themselves booths, every one upon his roof, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the open place by the water–gate, and in the open place by the gate of Ephraim.
16 Assim o povo saiu, e os trouxeram, e fizeram para si tendas, cada um sobre o telhado da sua casa, e nos seus átrios, e nos átrios da casa de Deus, e na rua do portão da água, e na rua do portão de Efraim.
17 And all the congregation that were returned out of the captivity made booths, and dwelt in the booths; for since the days of Jeshua’ the son of Nun until that day the children of Israel had not done so. And there was very great joy.
17 E toda a congregação daqueles que tinham voltado do cativeiro fez tendas, e se assentou debaixo das tendas; porque não tinham feito assim os filhos de Israel, desde os dias de Josué, filho de Num, até aquele dia. E houve mui grande alegria.
18 And he read in the book of the law of God, day by day, from the first day until the last day. And they celebrated the feast seven days, and on the eighth day the solemn assembly, after the prescribed manner.
18 Além disso, dia após dia, do primeiro dia até o último dia, ele lia no livro da lei de Deus. E eles guardaram a festa dos sete dias; e no oitavo dia houve uma assembleia solene, de acordo com o costume.
