1 And the children of Israel did the evil in the eyes of the Lord: and the Lord delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.
1 E os filhos de Israel fizeram o mal aos olhos do ­SENHOR; e o ­SENHOR os entregou na mão de Midiã por sete anos.
2 And the hand of Midian prevailed over Israel; and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made for themselves the passes which are in the mountains, and the caves, and the strongholds.
2 E a mão de Midiã prevaleceu contra Israel; e por causa dos midianitas, os filhos de Israel fizeram para si as covas que estão nos montes, e cavernas e fortalezas.
3 And it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the ‘Amalekites, and the children of the east, and they went up against them;
3 E assim, quando Israel semeava, os midianitas subiam, e os amalequitas, e os filhos do oriente, até eles subiam contra eles;
4 And they encamped against them, and destroyed the products of the earth, as far as Gazzah, and they left no sustenance for Israel, neither lamb, nor ox, nor ass.
4 e se acampavam contra eles, e destruíam o produto da terra, até chegarem a Gaza, e não deixavam sustento para Israel: nem ovelha, nem boi, nem jumento.
5 For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and came as locusts in multitude; and both they and their camels were without number; and they came into the land to destroy it.
5 Pois eles subiam com o seu gado e suas tendas, e vinham como locustas em multidão; pois tanto eles quanto os seus camelos eram inumeráveis; e entravam na terra para destruí-la.
6 And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the Lord.
6 E Israel ficou grandemente empobrecido por causa dos midianitas; e os filhos de Israel clamaram ao ­SENHOR.
7 And it came to pass, when the children of Israel had cried unto the Lord because of the Midianites,
7 E sucedeu que, quando os filhos de Israel clamaram ao ­SENHOR por causa dos midianitas,
8 That the Lord sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, and he said unto them, Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, I led you forth out of Egypt, and brought you out of the house of slavery;
8 o ­SENHOR enviou um profeta aos filhos de Israel, que lhes disse: Assim diz o ­SENHOR Deus de Israel: Eu vos fiz subir do Egito, e vos retirei da casa da servidão;
9 And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and I drove them out from before you, and gave you their land;
9 e vos libertei da mão dos egípcios, e da mão de todos os que vos oprimiam, e os expulsei de diante de vós, e vos dei a sua terra;
10 And I said unto you, I am the Lord your God: ye shall not fear the gods of the Emorites, in whose land ye dwell; but ye have not obeyed my voice.
10 e eu vos disse: Eu sou o ­SENHOR vosso Deus; não temais os deuses dos amorreus, em cuja terra habitais; vós, porém, não obedecestes à minha voz.
11 And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat down under the oak which was in ‘Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi’ezrite; and Gid’on his son was beating out wheat in the wine–press, to hide it from the Midianites.
11 E veio ali um anjo do ­SENHOR, e se assentou debaixo de um carvalho que ficava em Ofra, que pertencia a Joás, o abiezrita; e o seu filho, Gideão, debulhava o trigo no lagar, para escondê-lo dos midianitas.
12 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valor.
12 E o anjo do ­SENHOR lhe apareceu, e lhe disse: O ­SENHOR está contigo, homem poderoso e valente.
13 And Gid’on said unto him, Pardon, my lord, if the Lord be indeed with us, why then hath all this befallen us? and where are all his wonders of which our fathers have told us, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt! But now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hand of Midian.
13 E Gideão lhe disse: Ó meu Senhor, se o ­SENHOR está conosco, então por que tudo isso nos sobreveio? E onde estão todos os milagres os quais os nossos pais nos contaram, dizendo: O ­SENHOR não nos fez subir do Egito? Agora, porém, o ­SENHOR nos abandonou e nos entregou nas mãos dos midianitas.
14 And the Lord turned toward him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: behold, I have sent thee.
14 E o ­SENHOR olhou para ele e disse: Vai neste poder, e tu salvarás Israel da mão dos midianitas; não te enviei eu?
15 And he said unto him, Pardon my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is the weakest in Menasseh, and I am the youngest of my father’s house.
15 E ele lhe disse: Ó meu Senhor, com que salvarei Israel? Eis que a minha família é pobre em Manassés, e eu sou o menor na casa do meu pai.
16 And the Lord said unto him, Because I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.
16 E o ­SENHOR lhe disse: Certamente estarei contigo, e tu ferirás os midianitas como a um homem.
17 And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy eyes, then give me a sign that thou hast been speaking with me;
17 E ele lhe disse: Se agora tenho achado graça aos teus olhos, então, mostra-me um sinal de que tu falas comigo.
18 Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thy return.
18 Não partas daqui, rogo-te, até que eu venha a ti, e te traga o meu presente, e o coloque diante de ti. E ele disse: Aguardarei até que tu retornes.
19 And Gid’on went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and the broth he put in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.
19 E Gideão entrou, e preparou um cabrito, e bolos ázimos de um efa de farinha; pôs a carne em um cesto, e ele pôs o caldo em uma panela, e o trouxe para fora, debaixo do carvalho, e o apresentou.
20 And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and the broth pour out. And he did so.
20 E o anjo de Deus lhe disse: Toma a carne e os bolos ázimos e coloca-os sobre esta rocha, e derrama o caldo. E ele assim o fez.
21 Then the angel of the Lord put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. And the angel of the Lord departed out of his sight.
21 Então, o anjo do ­SENHOR estendeu a ponta da vara que estava na sua mão, e tocou a carne e os bolos ázimos; e subiu fogo da rocha, e consumiu a carne e os bolos ázimos. Então, o anjo do ­SENHOR retirou-se da sua vista.
22 And when Gid’on perceived that it was an angel of the Lord, Gid’on said, Alas, O Lord Eternal! because I have surely seen an angel of the Lord face to face.
22 E, quando Gideão percebeu que ele era um anjo do ­SENHOR, Gideão disse: Ai de mim, ó Senhor DEUS! Porque vi um anjo do ­SENHOR face a face.
23 And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.
23 E o ­SENHOR lhe disse: Paz seja contigo; não temas; não morrerás.
24 And Gid’on built there an altar unto the Lord, and called it Adonay–shalom the Eternal of Peace: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi’ezrites.
24 Então Gideão edificou ali um altar ao ­SENHOR, e o chamou de Jeová-Shalom; e até este dia ainda está em Ofra dos abiezritas.
25 And it came to pass in the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, and the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal which belongeth to thy father, and the grove that is around it shalt thou cut down.
25 E sucedeu que, na mesma noite, o ­SENHOR lhe disse: Toma o novilho do teu pai, o segundo novilho de sete anos de idade, e põe abaixo o altar de Baal que o teu pai tem, e corta o arvoredo que está junto a ele;
26 And build an altar unto the Lord thy God upon the top of this rock, on the level place, and take the second bullock, and offer it as a burnt–sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.
26 e edifica um altar para o ­SENHOR, teu Deus, no cume dessa rocha, no local ordenado, e toma o segundo novilho, e oferece um sacrifício queimado com a madeira do arvoredo que tu cortares.
27 And Gid’on took ten men of his servants, and did as the Lord had spoken unto him; but it came to pass, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, to do it by day, that he did it by night.
27 Então Gideão tomou dez homens dentre os seus servos, e fez segundo o ­SENHOR lhe disse; e assim foi, porque como temia a casa de seu pai, e os homens da cidade, ele não poderia fazê-lo de dia, mas fê-lo à noite.
28 And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was overthrown, and the grove that was around it was cut down, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar which had been built.
28 E quando os homens da cidade se levantaram de manhã cedo, eis que o altar de Baal estava demolido, e o arvoredo que estava junto a ele estava cortado, e o segundo novilho foi oferecido sobre o altar que foi edificado.
29 And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And they inquired and searched, and then said, Gid’on the son of Joash hath done this thing.
29 E disseram uns aos outros: Quem fez esta coisa? E, quando investigaram e perguntaram, disseram: Gideão, o filho de Joás fez esta coisa.
30 Thereupon said the men of the city unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die; because he hath overthrown the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was around it.
30 Então, os homens da cidade disseram a Joás: Traz para fora o teu filho, para que morra; porque ele demoliu o altar de Baal, e porque cortou o arvoredo que estava junto dele.
31 But Joash said unto all that stood around him, Will ye indeed contend for Baal? will ye assist him? he that will contend for him, shall be put to death; wait until morning: if he be a god, let him contend for himself, because one hath overthrown his altar.
31 E Joás disse a todos os que se levantaram contra ele: Vós rogareis por Baal? Podereis salvá-lo? Que seja levado à morte aquele que roga por ele enquanto ainda é manhã; se ele for um deus, que rogue a si mesmo, já que demoliram o seu altar.
32 And the people called him on that day Yerubba’al, saying, Let Baal contend against him, because he hath overthrown his altar.
32 Por isso, naquele dia, ele o chamou de Jerubaal, dizendo: Que Baal defenda-se contra ele, porque ele pôs abaixo o seu altar.
33 And all the Midianites and ‘Amalekites and the children of the east assembled together, and went over and encamped in the valley of Yizre’el.
33 Então, todos os midianitas e os amalequitas e os filhos do oriente se reuniram, e atravessaram, e acamparam no vale de Jezreel.
34 But the Spirit of the Lord endued Gid’on, and he blew the cornet: and Abi’ezer assembled and followed him.
34 Porém, o Espírito do ­SENHOR veio sobre Gideão, e ele soprou uma trombeta; e Abiezer foi reunido após ele.
35 And he sent messengers throughout all Menasseh, who also assembled and followed him; and he sent messengers through Asher, and through Zebulun, and through Naphtali, and they came up to meet them.
35 E ele enviou mensageiros por todo Manassés; que também foi reunido após ele; e enviou mensageiros a Aser, e a Zebulom, e a Naftali; e eles subiram para encontrá-los.
36 And Gid’on said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by my hand, as thou hast spoken,
36 E Gideão disse a Deus: Se tu queres salvar Israel pela minha mão, como disseste,
37 Behold, I set up this fleece of wool in the threshing floor: if now there be dew on the fleece alone, and it be dry upon all the ground, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by my hand, as thou hast spoken.
37 eis que colocarei um velo de lã no chão; e se o orvalho estiver somente sobre o velo, e a terra ao redor estiver seca, então saberei que queres salvar Israel pela minha mão, conforme disseste.
38 And it was so; and when he rose up early on the morrow, he squeezed the fleece together, and wrung dew out of the fleece, making a bowl full of water.
38 E assim foi; pois levantou-se ele de manhã cedo, e espremeu o velo e, torcendo-o, removeu o orvalho do velo: uma tigela cheia de água.
39 And Gid’on said unto God, Let not thy anger be kindled against me, and I will speak but this once more; let me have a proof, I pray thee, but this once more with the fleece; let it, I pray, be dry upon the fleece alone, and upon all the ground let there be dew.
39 E Gideão disse a Deus: Não se acenda a tua ira contra mim, e falarei só mais esta vez; permita-me provar, rogo-te, só mais esta vez com o velo; que agora esteja seco somente sobre o velo, e sobre todo o solo haja orvalho.
40 And God did so that night; and it was dry upon the fleece alone, and on all the ground there was dew.
40 E Deus assim o fez naquela noite; pois apenas sobre o velo estava seco, e havia orvalho sobre todo o solo.
