1 And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites at the first, to fight against them?
1 Depois da morte de Josué, os filhos de Israel consultaram o Senhor , dizendo: — Quem de nós será a primeira tribo a lutar contra os cananeus?
2 And the Lord said, Judah shall go up; behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
2 O Senhor respondeu: — A tribo de Judá será a primeira; eis que entreguei a terra nas mãos desta tribo.
3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, and we will fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
3 Então os filhos de Judá disseram aos seus irmãos da tribo de Simeão: — Venham conosco à herança que nos caiu por sorteio, e lutemos contra os cananeus. Depois também nós iremos com vocês à herança que lhes caiu por sorteio. E os filhos de Simeão foram com eles.
4 And Judah went up; and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand; and they smote of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
4 Os filhos de Judá atacaram, e o Senhor lhes entregou nas mãos os cananeus e os ferezeus; e, em Bezeque, mataram dez mil homens.
5 And they found Adoni–bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
5 Em Bezeque, encontraram Adoni-Bezeque e lutaram contra ele; e derrotaram os cananeus e os ferezeus.
6 But Adoni–bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
6 Adoni-Bezeque fugiu, mas eles o perseguiram e, prendendo-o, lhe cortaram os polegares das mãos e dos pés.
7 And Adoni–bezek said, Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered food under my table: as I have done, so hath God requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
7 Então Adoni-Bezeque disse: — Setenta reis, a quem haviam sido cortados os polegares das mãos e dos pés, apanhavam migalhas debaixo da minha mesa. Assim como eu fiz, assim Deus me retribuiu. E o levaram a Jerusalém, onde morreu.
8 And the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and captured it, and they smote it with the edge of the sword, and the city they set on fire.
8 Os filhos de Judá atacaram Jerusalém e, tomando-a, mataram os seus moradores e puseram fogo na cidade.
9 And afterward did the children of Judah go down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the lowlands.
9 Depois, os filhos de Judá foram lutar contra os cananeus que habitavam nas montanhas, no Neguebe e na Sefelá.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron; now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiryath–arba’;and they smote Sheshai, and Achiman, and Talmai.
10 Também atacaram os cananeus que moravam em Hebrom, cujo nome antes era Quiriate-Arba, e derrotaram Sesai, Aimã e Talmai.
11 And he went from there against the inhabitants of Debir; and the name of Debir was formerly Kiryath–sepher:
11 Dali os filhos de Judá marcharam contra os moradores de Debir, que antes era chamada de Quiriate-Sefer.
12 And Caleb said, He that will smite Kiryath–sepher, and capture it, to him will I give ‘Achsah my daughter for wife.
12 Então Calebe disse: — Darei a minha filha Acsa por mulher ao homem que atacar e conquistar Quiriate-Sefer.
13 And ‘Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it: and he gave him ‘Achsah his daughter for wife.
13 Quem conquistou a cidade foi Otniel, filho de Quenaz, o irmão de Calebe, mais novo do que ele. E Calebe lhe deu a sua filha Acsa por mulher.
14 And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she persuaded him to ask of her father a field: and she alighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What aileth thee?
14 Esta, quando foi morar com Otniel, insistiu com ele para que pedisse um campo ao pai dela. Quando ela desceu do jumento, Calebe lhe perguntou: — O que é que você quer?
15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a dry land: give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
15 Ela respondeu: — Quero que me dê um presente. Já que o senhor me deu uma terra seca, me dê também algumas fontes de água. Então Calebe lhe deu as fontes superiores e as fontes inferiores.
16 And the children of the Kenite, the father–in–law of Moses, went up out of the city of palm–trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is at the south of ‘Arad; and they went and dwelt with the people.
16 Os filhos do queneu, sogro de Moisés, saíram da cidade das palmeiras com os filhos de Judá e foram ao deserto de Judá, que está ao sul de Arade; foram e habitaram com este povo.
17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and devoted it. And the name of the city was called Chormah.
17 Os filhos de Judá foram com os seus irmãos da tribo de Simeão e atacaram os cananeus que moravam em Zefate e destruíram totalmente a cidade; por isso, foi chamada de Horma.
18 And Judah captured Gazzah with its territory, and Ashkelon with its territory, and ‘Ekron with its territory.
18 Também conquistaram Gaza, Asquelom e Ecrom com os seus respectivos territórios.
19 And the Lord was with Judah; and he took possession of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
19 O Senhor esteve com os filhos de Judá, e estes ocuparam a região das montanhas. Porém não expulsaram os moradores do vale, porque estes tinham carros de ferro.
20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses had spoken; and he drove out thence the three sons of ‘Anak.
20 E, como Moisés havia prometido, deram Hebrom a Calebe, e este expulsou dali os três filhos de Anaque.
21 And the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem, the children of Benjamin did not drive out; but the Jebusites dwelt with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem until this day.
21 Porém os filhos de Benjamim não expulsaram os jebuseus que moravam em Jerusalém. Assim, os jebuseus vivem com os filhos de Benjamim em Jerusalém até o dia de hoje.
22 And the house of Joseph, these also, went up against Beth–el; and the Lord was with them.
22 A casa de José atacou Betel, e o Senhor estava com eles.
23 And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Beth–el: now the name of the city formerly was Luz.
23 A casa de José enviou homens a espiar Betel, que antes se chamava Luz.
24 And the watchers saw a man coming forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Show us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will show thee kindness.
24 Os espias viram um homem que saía da cidade e lhe disseram: — Mostre-nos a entrada da cidade, e teremos misericórdia de você.
25 And he showed them the entrance into the city, and they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but the man and all his family they let go free.
25 O homem mostrou a entrada da cidade, e eles mataram os moradores ao fio da espada; mas deixaram ir aquele homem e toda a sua família.
26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called its name Luz: this is its name unto this day.
26 Então ele foi para a terra dos heteus, edificou uma cidade, e lhe deu o nome de Luz. E este é o seu nome até o dia de hoje.
27 Neither did Menasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shean and its towns, nor Ta’anach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Yible’am and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites succeeded to remain in this land.
27 A tribo de Manassés não expulsou os moradores de Bete-Seã, nem os de Taanaque, nem os de Dor, nem os de Ibleão, nem os de Megido, todas com as suas respectivas aldeias; os cananeus continuaram a viver naquela terra.
28 And it came to pass, when Israel became strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute; but they did not drive them out entirely.
28 Quando, porém, Israel se tornou mais forte, sujeitou os cananeus a trabalhos forçados, mas não os expulsou de todo.
29 Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; and the Canaanites dwelt in the midst of them at Gezer.
29 A tribo de Efraim não expulsou os cananeus, moradores de Gezer. Assim, continuaram a viver com eles em Gezer.
30 Zebulun did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; and the Canaanites dwelt in the midst of them, and became tributary.
30 A tribo de Zebulom não expulsou os moradores de Quitrom, nem os de Naalol. Os cananeus continuaram com eles, sujeitos a trabalhos forçados.
31 Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of ‘Akko, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Achlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Chelbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rechob;
31 A tribo de Aser não expulsou os moradores de Aco, nem os de Sidom, os de Alabe, os de Aczibe, os de Helba, os de Afeca e os de Reobe.
32 And the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.
32 Os aseritas continuaram no meio dos cananeus que moravam na terra, porque não os expulsaram.
33 Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth–’anath; and he dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh and of Beth–anath became tributary unto them.
33 A tribo de Naftali não expulsou os moradores de Bete-Semes, nem os de Bete-Anate, mas continuou no meio dos cananeus que moravam na terra. No entanto, os moradores de Bete-Semes e Bete-Anate ficaram sujeitos a trabalhos forçados.
34 And the Emorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain; for they would not suffer them to come down into the valley;
34 Os amorreus levaram os filhos de Dã a se retirar para as montanhas e não os deixavam descer ao vale.
35 And the Emorites succeeded to remain on mount Cheres, in Ayalon, and in Sha’albim; but when the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, they became tributary.
35 Os amorreus conseguiram permanecer nas montanhas de Heres, em Aijalom e em Saalabim; no entanto, a mão da casa de José prevaleceu, e os amorreus foram sujeitos a trabalhos forçados.
36 And the territory of the Emorites was from the ascent of ‘Akrabbim, from the Rock upward.
36 O território dos amorreus ia desde a subida de Acrabim e desde Sela para cima.
