1 In those days there was no king in Israel; and in those days the tribe of the Danites were seeking for themselves an inheritance to dwell in; for there had not fallen to their share up to that day among the tribes of Israel a sufficient inheritance.
1 Naquele tempo não havia rei em Israel. E a tribo de Dã estava procurando uma terra para morar, terra que fosse só deles. Isso porque até aquela ocasião eles não tinham recebido a parte da terra que devia ser deles, embora as outras tribos de Israel já tivessem recebido a sua parte.
2 And the children of Dan sent from their family five men from among themselves, men of valor, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land. And they came to the mountain of Ephraim, as far as the house of Micah, and lodged there.
2 Então o povo de Dã escolheu cinco homens de valor entre todas as famílias da tribo. Eles foram mandados das cidades de Zora e Estaol para espiar e conhecer a terra. Foram para a região montanhosa de Efraim e ficaram na casa de Mica.
3 They were just by the house of Micah, when they recognized the voice of the young man the Levite; and they turned in thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee hither? and what doest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?
3 Enquanto estavam lá, perceberam, pelo jeito de o jovem levita falar, que ele não era dali. Então chegaram perto dele e perguntaram: — O que é que você está fazendo aqui? Quem trouxe você para cá?
4 And he said unto them, Thus and thus hath Micah done unto me; and he hired me, and I became his priest.
4 Ele respondeu: — Eu fiz um trato com Mica. Ele me paga para ser sacerdote dele.
5 And they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way on which we are going shall be prosperous.
5 Aí disseram ao moço: — Então pergunte a Deus se nós seremos bem-sucedidos na nossa viagem.
6 And the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the Lord is your way on which ye will go.
6 O sacerdote respondeu: — Não se preocupem. O
7 And the five men departed, and came to Layish, and saw the people that were therein, dwelling in security, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and no one inflicted any wrong in the land, as hereditary ruler; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no concern with any man.
7 Então os cinco homens saíram dali e foram para a cidade de Laís. Chegando lá, viram que o povo daquele lugar vivia em segurança, como os sidônios. Eram pacíficos e calmos e não tinham brigas com ninguém. Eles tinham tudo o que precisavam. Moravam longe dos sidônios e viviam afastados dos outros povos.
8 And they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said unto them, What news bring ye?
8 Quando os cinco homens voltaram para Zora e Estaol, a sua gente perguntou o que eles haviam descoberto.
9 And they said, Arise, and let us go up against them; for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and you keep still! be not slothful, to go, to enter to take possession of the land.
9 E eles responderam: — Vamos atacar! Nós vimos a terra, e ela é muito boa! Não fiquem aí parados! Vão depressa e tomem a terra!
10 When ye enter, ye will come unto a secure people, and the land is roomy; for God hath given it into your hand; a place where there is no want of anything that is on the earth.
10 Lá vocês vão ver que o povo não desconfia de nada. A terra deles é grande e tem tudo o que é preciso. E Deus a está dando a vocês.
11 And there went from there of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men girded with weapons of war.
11 Então seiscentos homens da tribo de Dã saíram de Zora e Estaol, prontos para a luta.
12 And they went up, and encamped in Kiryathyearim, in Judah; wherefore they called that place Machanehdan until this day; behold, it is behind Kiryathyearim.
12 Subiram e acamparam a oeste da cidade de Quiriate-Jearim, na região de Judá. É por isso que aquele lugar é chamado até hoje de “Campo de Dã”.
13 And they passed thence unto the mountain of Ephraim, and came as far as the house of Micah.
13 Dali foram para a região montanhosa de Efraim e chegaram à casa de Mica.
14 Then commenced the five men that had gone to spy out the country of Layish, and said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there are in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven and molten image? and now consider what ye have to do.
14 Aqueles cinco homens que haviam ido espiar a terra ao redor de Laís disseram aos seus companheiros: — Vocês sabiam que numa dessas casas há um ídolo de madeira folheado a prata? Há também outros ídolos e uma roupa de sacerdote. O que vocês acham que devemos fazer?
15 And they turned thitherward, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, unto the house of Micah, and asked him after his welfare.
15 Então eles entraram na casa de Mica, onde morava o jovem levita, e o cumprimentaram.
16 And the six hundred men who were of the children of Dan, girded with their weapons of war, remained standing by the entrance of the gate.
16 Enquanto isso, os seiscentos soldados da tribo de Dã estavam esperando no portão, prontos para combater.
17 And the five men that had gone to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest stood in the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men that were girded with the weapons of war.
17 Os cinco espiões entraram na casa, pegaram o ídolo de madeira folheado a prata, os outros ídolos e a roupa de sacerdote. O sacerdote tinha ficado no portão com os seiscentos soldados armados.
18 And these went into Micahs house, and took the graven image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest said unto them, What are ye doing?
18 Quando os homens entraram na casa de Mica e pegaram os objetos sagrados, o sacerdote perguntou: — O que vocês estão fazendo?
19 And they said unto him, Be still, lay thy hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and become to us a father and a priest: is it better that thou be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?
19 Eles responderam: — Fique quieto. Não diga nada. Venha com a gente e seja o nosso sacerdote e conselheiro. Você não gostaria de ser o sacerdote de uma tribo inteira, em vez de ser sacerdote de apenas uma família?
20 And the priests heart became glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and came into the midst of the people.
20 O sacerdote ficou muito contente, pegou os objetos sagrados e foi com os espiões e os soldados.
21 And they turned and went away, and placed the little ones and the cattle and the heavy things before them.
21 Eles deram meia-volta, puseram na frente as crianças, o gado e os seus bens e partiram.
22 When they were at a distance from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micahs house were called together, and they overtook the children of Dan.
22 Já estavam longe quando os vizinhos de Mica, que haviam sido chamados para lutar, alcançaram os homens da tribo de Dã.
23 And they called unto the children of Dan, who turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou hast called out thy people?
23 Estes, ao ouvirem os gritos dos que vinham atrás deles, deram meia-volta e perguntaram a Mica: — O que é que há? Para que toda essa gente?
24 And he said, My god which I made have ye taken away, and the priest, and are gone away; and what have I more? and what is this ye say unto me, What aileth thee?
24 Ele respondeu: — Vocês ainda me perguntam o que é que há? Vocês me tomaram os deuses que eu fiz e o meu sacerdote e foram embora! O que foi que sobrou para mim?
25 And the children of Dan said unto him, Cause not thy voice to be heard among us, lest men of an embittered spirit assail thee, and thou lose thy life, with the life of thy household.
25 Os homens de Dã disseram: — É melhor você não falar mais nada porque estes homens podem ficar zangados e acabar atacando vocês. Nesse caso você e toda a sua família morreriam.
26 And the children of Dan went on their way; and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.
26 Depois de dizerem isso, os homens de Dã partiram. Mica viu que eles eram mais fortes; então voltou para casa.
27 And they took what Micah had made, and the priest whom he had had, and came over Layish, over a people that were quiet and secure; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and the city they burnt with fire.
27 Os homens da tribo de Dã levaram as coisas que Mica havia feito e também o sacerdote dele. Aí foram e atacaram Laís, aquela cidade de povo pacífico e calmo. Mataram os seus moradores e queimaram a cidade.
28 And there was no deliverer; because it was far from Zidon, and the people had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrechob. And they rebuilt the city, and dwelt therein.
28 Não havia ninguém para salvar aquela gente, pois Laís ficava longe de Sidom, e eles não tinham contato com outros povos. A cidade ficava no vale, perto de Bete-Reobe. A tribo de Dã construiu de novo Laís e ficou morando ali.
29 And they called the name of the city, Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: nevertheless, Layish was the name of the city at first.
29 Deram à cidade o nome de Dã porque assim se chamava o fundador da tribo, que era filho de Jacó.
30 And the children of Dan erected for themselves the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Menasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the exile of the land.
30 E os homens de Dã levantaram o ídolo para adorá-lo. Jônatas, filho de Gérson e neto de Moisés, foi sacerdote da tribo de Dã. Ele e os seus descendentes foram sacerdotes da tribo de Dã até que o povo foi levado como prisioneiro para fora da sua terra.
31 And they set up for themselves Micahs graven image, which he had made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.
31 E o ídolo feito por Mica ficou com eles durante todo o tempo em que a casa de Deus esteve em Siló.
