1 If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the Lord, unto me must thou return; and if thou wilt put away thy abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not wander about any more.
1 O Senhor Deus diz: — Povo de Israel, se você vai voltar, volte para mim. Eu odeio os ídolos; acabe com eles e seja fiel a mim.
2 And if thou wilt swear, As the Lord liveth, in truth, in justice, and in righteousness: then shall nations bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glorify themselves.
2 Então, sim, você estará sendo verdadeiro, correto e honesto quando jurar pelo meu nome. Todas as nações pedirão que eu as abençoe e elas me louvarão.
3 For thus hath said the Lord to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, Plough up your fallow ground, that ye may not sow among thorns.
3 Deus diz aos homens da tribo de Judá e da cidade de Jerusalém: — Passem o arado na terra que não foi preparada para plantar e não semeiem as sementes no meio de espinhos.
4 Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and remove the obduracy of your heart, O ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
4 Povo de Judá e moradores de Jerusalém, sejam fiéis à aliança que fizeram comigo, o Senhor , e se dediquem a mim de todo o coração; se não, a minha ira queimará como fogo. E, por causa das maldades que vocês têm feito, o meu furor será como fogo, e ninguém poderá apagá-lo.
5 Tell ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem, and say, Blow ye the cornet in the land: call out, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the fortified cities.
5 Toquem a corneta em toda a terra! Gritem bem alto e bem claro! Digam ao povo de Judá e de Jerusalém que corra para as cidades protegidas por muralhas.
6 Set up the standard toward Zion; save yourselves by flight, stay not; for evil do I bring from the north, and a great destruction.
6 Mostrem o caminho que vai a Sião ! Corram para os abrigos! Não demorem! Do Norte, Deus vai trazer desgraça e grande destruição.
7 The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of nations hath commenced his march, he is gone forth from his place, to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, left without an inhabitant.
7 Como um leão que sai do seu esconderijo, um destruidor de nações vem vindo para acabar com o povo de Judá. As cidades de Judá serão destruídas, e ninguém morará nelas.
8 For this gird yourselves with sackcloths, lament and wail; for the fierce anger of the Lord is not turned away from us.
8 Portanto, vistam roupa feita de pano grosseiro como sinal de tristeza. Lamentem e chorem, pois o fogo da ira de Deus não se desviou de Judá.
9 And it shall come to pass on that day, saith the Lord, that the heart of the king and the heart of the princes shall fail; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.
9 O Senhor Deus disse: — Naquele dia, os reis e as autoridades perderão a coragem, os sacerdotes ficarão abalados e os
10 Then said I, Ah, Lord Eternal! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.
10 Então eu disse: — Ó
11 At that time shall be announced to this people and to Jerusalem a dry wind from the mountainpeaks in the wilderness, coming on the road to the daughter of my people; not to winnow, nor to cleanse the corn,
11 Está chegando o tempo de dizer ao povo de Jerusalém que do deserto um vento muito quente vai soprar sobre o povo de Deus. Não será o vento fraco que separa a palha do trigo.
12 A strong wind from these places shall come unto me: now also will I myself pronounce judgment against them.
12 O vento que vem mandado por Deus será muito forte. Agora, é Deus mesmo que está dando a sentença contra o seu povo.
13 Behold, like clouds shall he come up, and like a whirlwind shall be his chariots: swifter than eagles are his horses. "Woe unto us! for we are wasted."
13 Olhem! Os inimigos vêm vindo como nuvens. Os seus carros de guerra são como uma forte ventania, e os seus cavalos são mais rápidos do que as águias. Estamos perdidos! Estamos acabados!
14 Wash from wrong doing thy heart, O Jerusalem, in order that thou mayest be saved. How long wilt thou let lodge within thee the thoughts of thy wickedness?
14 Jerusalém, limpe a maldade do seu coração para que você seja salva. Até quando você vai continuar com os seus maus pensamentos?
15 For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth unhappiness from the mountain of Ephraim.
15 Mensageiros da cidade de Dã e das montanhas de Efraim anunciam as más notícias da invasão.
16 Make ye mention of it to the nations; behold, let it be heard against Jerusalem, that beleaguerers come from a faroff country, and send forth their voice against the cities of Judah.
16 Eles mandam avisar as nações e dizer a Jerusalém que os inimigos vêm vindo de um país distante e que eles vão dar o seu grito de guerra contra as cidades de Judá.
17 As keepers of a field are they against her round about; because against me hath she been rebellious, saith the Lord.
17 Eles vão cercar Jerusalém como homens que guardam uma plantação, pois a nossa nação se revoltou contra Deus, o Senhor .
18 Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee: this is thy wickedness, which is so bitter, which so reacheth unto thy heart.
18 Judá, você trouxe esse mal para você mesmo por causa do seu modo de viver, por causa das coisas que tem feito. O seu pecado trouxe esse sofrimento e feriu o seu próprio coração. Eu, o Senhor , estou falando.
19 My bowels, my bowels! I am shaken, at the very chambers of my heart; my heart beateth tumultuously in me; I cannot remain silent; because the sound of the cornet hast thou heard, O my soul, the alarm of war.
19 Que dor! Não posso suportar tanta dor! Ah! meu coração! O meu coração está batendo forte! Não posso ficar calado, pois ouvi a corneta e os gritos de guerra.
20 Ruin upon ruin is called out; for the whole land is wasted: suddenly are my tents wasted, and in a moment, my curtains.
20 Uma desgraça vem atrás da outra; o país inteiro está arrasado. De repente, as nossas barracas são destruídas, e as suas cortinas são rasgadas em pedaços.
21 How long shall I see the standard, hear the sound of the cornet?
21 Até quando terei de ver as bandeiras inimigas e ouvir o som da corneta na batalha?
22 "Because my people is foolish, me have they not known; sottish children are they, and they have not any understanding: wise are they to do evil, but how to do good they do not know."
22 Deus diz: “O meu povo não tem juízo e não me conhece. Eles são como crianças tolas que não compreendem as coisas. Para fazer o mal, são espertos, mas não sabem fazer o bem.”
23 I look at the earth, and, lo, it is without form and void; and toward the heavens, and their light is gone.
23 Então olhei. A terra era um vazio, sem nenhum ser vivente, e no céu não havia luz.
24 I look at the mountains, and, lo, they tremble, and all the hills are moved.
24 Olhei para as montanhas, e elas estavam tremendo; e os montes balançavam para lá e para cá.
25 I look, and, lo, there is no man, and all the birds of the heavens are fled.
25 Vi que não havia ninguém e que até os passarinhos tinham fugido.
26 I look, and, lo, the fruitful country is a wilderness, and all its cities are laid waste at the presence of the Lord, because of the fierceness of his anger.
26 Vi ainda que a terra boa tinha virado um deserto e que as cidades tinham sido arrasadas por Deus, por causa do seu grande furor.
27 For thus hath said the Lord, Desolate shall be the whole land; yet a full end will I not make.
27 Deus disse que a terra toda vai virar um deserto, mas ele não a destruirá completamente.
28 For this shall mourn the earth, and black shall be the heavens above; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and I will not repent, and I will not turn back from it.
28 A terra chorará, e o céu ficará escuro, pois Deus falou e não mudará de ideia. Ele já decidiu e não voltará atrás.
29 From the noise of horsemen and those that shoot with the bow fleeth the whole city; they go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city is forsaken, and not a man dwelleth therein.
29 Quando ouvirem o barulho dos cavaleiros e dos atiradores de flechas, todos sairão correndo. Alguns fugirão para a floresta, e outros subirão pelas rochas. Todas as cidades ficarão vazias, e ninguém morará nelas.
30 And thou, O wasted one, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothe thyself with scarlet, though thou adorn thyself with ornaments of gold, though thou encircle with paint thy eyes: in vain shalt thou make thyself beautiful; the adulterers will despise thee, thy life will they seek.
30 Jerusalém, você está condenada! Por que se veste de vermelho? Por que usa joias e pinta os olhos? Não adianta nada você querer ficar bonita! Os seus amantes a rejeitaram, e o que eles querem é matá-la.
31 For a voice as of a woman in travail have I heard, the anguish as of one that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that groaneth, that spreadeth out her hands, saying, "Woe is me now! for my soul succumbeth to the murderers."
31 Ouvi um grito igual ao de uma mulher com dores de parto, um grito como o de uma mulher dando à luz o seu primeiro filho. Era o grito de Jerusalém respirando com dificuldade, estendendo as mãos em desespero e dizendo: “Estou perdida! Eles vêm vindo para me matar!”
