1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoyakim the son of Josiah the king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
1 No quarto ano em que Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, reinou em Judá, o Senhor Deus me disse:
2 Take thee a rollbook, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day that I spoke unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even until this day.
2 — Jeremias, pegue um rolo — um livro — e escreva nele tudo o que lhe falei a respeito do povo de Israel e de Judá e a respeito de todas as nações. Escreva tudo o que eu disse desde a primeira vez em que falei com você, quando Josias era rei, até hoje.
3 Peradventure it be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them: in order that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
3 O povo de Judá vai ficar sabendo de toda a destruição que estou pensando fazer cair sobre eles. Aí talvez todos abandonem os seus maus caminhos, e eu perdoarei a maldade e os pecados deles.
4 Then did Jeremiah call Baruch the son of Neriyah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him, upon a rollbook.
4 Depois, eu chamei Baruque, filho de Nerias, e ditei tudo o que o Senhor me tinha dito, e ele escreveu num rolo.
5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I am not able to enter into the house of the Lord:
5 Então lhe dei as seguintes instruções: — Eu estou proibido de ir ao Templo.
6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord before the ears of the people in the house of the Lord on the fastday; and also before the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities shalt thou read them.
6 Mas quero que você vá até lá quando o povo estiver jejuando. Leia o rolo em voz alta, de modo que eles escutem tudo o que o Senhor Deus me disse e que eu ditei a você. Faça isso de maneira que o povo e também os que vierem das cidades de Judá possam ouvir.
7 Perhaps it may be that they will humbly present their supplication before the Lord, and will return every one from his evil way; for great are the anger and the fury that the Lord hath decreed against this people.
7 Pode ser que assim eles orem a Deus e abandonem os seus maus caminhos, pois o Senhor está furioso e muito irado com este povo.
8 And Baruch the son of Neriyah did in accordance with all that Jeremiah the prophet had commanded him, to read in the book the words of the Lord in the house of the Lord.
8 Então Baruque leu no pátio do Templo as palavras do Senhor , exatamente como eu havia mandado.
9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoyakim the son of Josiah the king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the Lord for all the people in Jerusalem, and for all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.
9 No nono mês do quinto ano do reinado de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, em Judá, o povo ficou em jejum diante de Deus, o Senhor . Tomaram parte nesse jejum todos os que viviam em Jerusalém e todos os que tinham vindo das cidades de Judá.
10 And Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the Lord, in the chamber of Gemaryahu the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court, at the entrance of the new gate of the Lords house, before the ears of all the people.
10 Então Baruque leu no rolo tudo o que eu tinha dito, e todo o povo escutou. Ele fez essa leitura num dos pátios do Templo, na sala de Gemarias, que era filho de Safã e escrivão do rei. Essa sala, que ficava na entrada do Portão Novo do Templo, dava para o pátio de cima.
11 And when Michayhu the son of Gemaryahu, the son of Shaphan, had heard all the words of the Lord out of the book:
11 Micaías, filho de Gemarias e neto de Safã, ouviu Baruque ler no rolo aquilo que o Senhor tinha dito.
12 He went down into the kings house, into the scribes chamber; and, lo, all the princes were sitting there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delayahu the son of Shemayahu, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemaryahu the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Chananyahu, and all the princes.
12 Aí desceu ao palácio real e foi até a sala do escrivão do rei, onde todas as autoridades estavam reunidas. Encontravam-se ali Elisama, conselheiro do rei, e Delaías, filho de Semaías, e Elnatã, filho de Acbor, e Gemarias, filho de Safã, e Zedequias, filho de Hananias, e todas as outras autoridades.
13 And Michayhu told unto them all the words which he had heard, when Baruch read in the book before the ears of the people.
13 Micaías contou tudo o que tinha ouvido Baruque ler para o povo.
14 Thereupon sent all the princes Jehudi the son of Nethanyahu, the son of Shelemyahu, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, The roll wherein thou hast read before the ears of the people,this take in thy hand, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriyahu took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
14 Então as autoridades mandaram que Jeudi, que era filho de Netanias, neto de Selemias e bisneto de Cusi, fosse dizer a Baruque o seguinte: — Venha e traga o rolo que você leu para o povo. Aí Baruque pegou o rolo e foi ao palácio.
15 And they said unto him, Sit down, we pray thee, and read it before our ears. So Baruch read it before their ears.
15 E eles lhe disseram: — Por favor, sente-se e leia o rolo para nós. E Baruque leu para eles.
16 Now it came to pass, when they heard all the words, they looked terrified at each other, and they said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
16 Depois de terem escutado tudo, eles olharam assustados uns para os outros e disseram a Baruque: — Temos de contar isso ao rei.
17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Do tell us, How didst thou write down all these words from his mouth?
17 Então perguntaram: — Diga uma coisa: como é que você escreveu tudo isso? Foi Jeremias que ditou?
18 Then said Baruch unto them, With his mouth did he utter clearly all these words unto me, and I wrote them in the book with ink.
18 — Jeremias ditou palavra por palavra, e eu escrevi tudo com tinta neste rolo! — respondeu Baruque.
19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thyself, thou with Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye are.
19 Então eles disseram: — Você e Jeremias precisam se esconder. Não deixem ninguém saber onde vocês estão.
20 And they went in to the king into the court, but the roll they had put in safe keeping in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they told before the ears of the king all the words.
20 As autoridades deixaram o rolo, isto é, o livro, na sala de Elisama, o escrivão do rei. Em seguida, foram até a sala onde o rei estava e lhe contaram tudo.
21 But the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll; and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it before the ears of the king, and before the ears of all the princes who stood around the king.
21 Então o rei mandou que Jeudi fosse buscar o rolo. Ele foi à sala de Elisama, trouxe o rolo e leu para o rei Jeoaquim e todas as autoridades que estavam em volta dele.
22 Now the king was sitting in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and a pan of coals was burning before him.
22 Era tempo de frio, e o rei estava no seu palácio de inverno, sentado perto do fogo.
23 And it came to pass, when Jehudi had read three or four pages, that he cut it with the writers knife, and cast it into the fire that was in the coalpan, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was in the coalpan.
23 Cada vez que Jeudi terminava a leitura de três ou quatro colunas, o rei cortava com uma faquinha aquele pedaço do rolo e jogava no fogo. Ele continuou fazendo isso até que o rolo inteirinho virou cinza.
24 Yet they were not terrified, nor did they rend their garments, either the king, or any of his servants that had heard all these words.
24 Mas nem o rei nem nenhuma das autoridades que ouviram todas aquelas coisas ficaram com medo ou mostraram qualquer sinal de arrependimento.
25 And although Elnathan and Delayahu and Gemaryahu had also made intercession with the king that he might not burn the roll, he would not listen to them.
25 Acontece que Elnatã, Delaías e Gemarias tinham pedido ao rei que não queimasse o rolo, mas ele não deu atenção.
26 And the king commanded Yerachmeel the son of the king, and Serayahu the son of Azriel, and Shelemyahu the son of Abdeel, to seize on Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but the Lord hid them.
26 Pelo contrário, mandou que o príncipe Jerameel, junto com Seraías, filho de Azriel, e Selemias, filho de Abdeel, prendessem o meu secretário Baruque e a mim. Mas o Senhor nos havia escondido.
27 Then came the word of the Lord to Jeremiah, after the king had burnt the roll, and the words which Baruch had written down from the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
27 Depois que o rei Jeoaquim queimou o rolo que eu havia ditado a Baruque, o Senhor Deus me disse
28 Take thee again another roll, and write on it all the former words that have been on the first roll, which Jehoyakim the king of Judah hath burnt.
28 que pegasse outro rolo e escrevesse tudo o que estava naquele que o rei tinha queimado.
29 And concerning Jehoyakim the king of Judah shalt thou say, Thus hath said the Lord, Thou hast indeed burnt this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease therefrom man and beast!
29 E o Senhor me mandou dizer o seguinte: — Rei Jeoaquim, você queimou o rolo, perguntando: “Por que foi que Jeremias escreveu que o rei da Babilônia certamente virá, e destruirá esta terra, e matará a sua gente e os seus animais?”
30 Therefore thus hath said the Lord concerning Jehoyakim the king of Judah, He shall have no one to sit upon the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat in the day, and to the cold in the night.
30 Por isso, eu, o Senhor , digo a você, rei Jeoaquim, que nenhum dos seus descendentes será rei no reino de Davi. O seu cadáver ficará largado ao sol durante o dia e à geada durante a noite.
31 And I will visit on him and on his seed and on his servants their iniquity; and I will bring over them, and over the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and against the men of Judah, all the evil that I have spoken against them, while they did not hearken.
31 Castigarei você, os seus descendentes e as suas autoridades por causa dos pecados de vocês todos. Nem você nem o povo de Jerusalém e de Judá se importaram com os meus avisos. Por isso, farei cair sobre todos vocês a desgraça que prometi.
32 And Jeremiah took another roll, and gave it to Baruch the son of Neriyahu the scribe; who wrote thereon from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoyakim the king of Judah had burnt in the fire: and there were yet added unto them many words like them.
32 Então peguei outro rolo, entreguei ao meu secretário Baruque, e ele escreveu tudo o que eu ditei. Escreveu tudo o que estava no rolo que o rei Jeoaquim havia queimado. E ainda ditei muitas outras coisas parecidas.
