1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.
1 Palavra do Senhor que veio a Jeremias a respeito da seca:
2 Judah mourneth, and her gates languish; they lie grieved on the ground; and the distressed cry of Jerusalem ascendeth upward.
2 “Judá anda chorando, as suas portas estão abandonadas e, de luto, se curvam até o chão; e o clamor de Jerusalém vai subindo.
3 And their nobles have sent out their subordinates for water: they come to the pits, they find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are ashamed and confounded, and cover their head.
3 Os poderosos mandam os servos buscar água. Estes vão às cisternas e não encontram água; voltam com os seus cântaros vazios e, decepcionados e confusos, cobrem a cabeça.
4 Because of the ground which is cracked open, since there hath been no rain in the land, are the ploughmen ashamed, they cover their head.
4 Por não ter havido chuva sobre a terra, esta se acha ressequida; e, por isso, os lavradores, decepcionados, cobrem a cabeça.
5 Yea, the hind also bringeth forth her young in the field, and forsaketh them, because there is no grass.
5 Até as corças no campo têm as suas crias e as abandonam, porque não há capim.
6 And the wild asses stand on the mountaintops, they snuff up the wind like serpents: their eyes fail, because there are no herbs.
6 Os jumentos selvagens se põem no alto dos morros e, ofegantes, sorvem o vento como chacais; os seus olhos desfalecem, por falta de pasto.”
7 If our iniquities testify against us, O Lord, do thou act for the sake of thy name; for our backslidings are many; against thee have we sinned.
7 Ainda que as nossas maldades testifiquem contra nós, ó por amor do teu nome! Porque as nossas rebeldias se multiplicaram; pecamos contra ti.
8 O thou hope of Israel, his saviour in time of trouble, why shouldst thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfarer that turneth aside to lodge for a night?
8 Ó Esperança de Israel e Redentor do teu povo no tempo da angústia, por que serias como estrangeiro na terra e como viajante que fica só uma noite?
9 Why shouldst thou be as a man that is surprised, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou art in the midst of us, O Lord, and we are called by thy name: abandon us not.
9 Por que serias como homem que foi pego de surpresa, como valente que não pode salvar? Mas tu, ó estás em nosso meio, e nós somos chamados pelo teu nome. Não nos abandones!
10 Thus hath said the Lord unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander about, their feet have they not restrained: therefore the Lord doth not receive them in favor; now will he remember their iniquity, and will punish their sins.
10 Assim diz o Senhor a respeito deste povo: “Eles gostam de andar errantes e não sabem controlar os pés. Por isso, o não se agrada deles; agora ele se lembrará das maldades que fizeram e os castigará por causa dos seus pecados.”
11 Then said the Lord unto me, Pray not in behalf of this people for their good.
11 O Senhor me disse ainda: — Não interceda por este povo para o bem dele.
12 When they fast, I will not hear their entreaty: and when they offer burntoffering and meatoffering, I will not receive them in favor; but by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence, will I make an end of them.
12 Quando jejuarem, não ouvirei o seu clamor e, quando trouxerem holocaustos e ofertas de cereais, não me agradarei deles. Pelo contrário, eu os consumirei pela guerra, pela fome e pela peste.
13 Then said I, Ah, Lord Eternal! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but a permanent peace will I give you in this place.
13 Então eu disse: — Ah!
14 Then said the Lord unto me, Falsehood do the prophets prophesy in my name; I have not sent them, neither have I commanded them, neither have I spoken unto them: a vision of falsehood, and divination, and idolatrous folly, and the deceit of their heart do they prophesy unto you.
14 E o Senhor respondeu: — Esses profetas profetizam mentiras em meu nome. Nunca os enviei, nem lhes dei ordem, nem lhes falei. Eles estão profetizando para vocês visões falsas, adivinhações inúteis e engano que procede do seu íntimo.
15 Therefore thus hath said the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, when I have not sent them, while they say, Sword and famine shall not come in this land: By the sword and by the famine shall these prophets come to their end.
15 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor a respeito dos profetas que, profetizando em meu nome, sem que eu os tenha mandado, dizem que não haverá guerra nem fome nesta terra: Esses profetas serão consumidos pela guerra e pela fome.
16 And the people to whom they prophesy shall lie cast down in the streets of Jerusalem by means of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters; for I will pour out their wickedness over them.
16 O povo a quem eles profetizam será lançado nas ruas de Jerusalém, por causa da fome e da guerra. Não haverá quem os sepulte — a eles, a suas mulheres, a seus filhos e a suas filhas. Porque derramarei sobre eles a sua maldade.
17 But thou shalt say unto them this word. My eyes shall run down with tears night and day, and they shall not cease; for with a great breach is the virgindaughter of my people broken, with a very painful blow.
17 Portanto, diga-lhes esta palavra: “Que os meus olhos derramem lágrimas de noite e de dia, sem cessar. Porque a virgem, filha do meu povo, sofreu um grande golpe; está gravemente ferida.
18 If I go forth into the field, behold, there are the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, behold, there are those that are sick with famine! for both the prophet and the priest travel round into a land that they know not.
18 Se saio ao campo, vejo os que foram mortos à espada; se entro na cidade, estão ali os debilitados pela fome. Até os profetas e os sacerdotes vagueiam pela terra e não sabem para onde vão.”
19 Hast thou entirely rejected Judah? or hath thy soul loathing on Zion? why hast thou smitten us, so that there is no healing for us? we hoped for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold, there is terror!
19 Será que de todo rejeitaste Judá? Será que a tua alma tem nojo de Sião? Por que nos feriste, e não há cura para nós? Aguardamos a paz, e não há nada de bom; esperamos o tempo da cura, e eis o terror.
20 We know, O Lord, our wickedness, the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against thee.
20 Conhecemos, ó Senhor , a nossa maldade e a iniquidade de nossos pais; porque temos pecado contra ti.
21 Do not cast us off, for the sake of thy name, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
21 Não nos rejeites, por amor do teu nome; não desprezes o trono da tua glória. Lembra-te e não anules a tua aliança conosco.
22 Are there any among the vanities of the nations those that bestow rain? or can the heavens give forth showers? Behold, thou art this, O Lord our God, and we will hope in thee; for thou hast done all these things.
22 Será que existe entre os ídolos dos gentios algum que faça chover? Ou podem os céus por si mesmos dar chuvas? Não és tu somente, ó nosso Deus, o que fazes isto? Portanto, em ti esperamos, pois tu fazes todas estas coisas.
