1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
1 O povo de Israel saiu de Elim e foi para o deserto de Sim, que fica entre Elim e o monte Sinai. Chegaram ali no dia quinze do segundo mês depois da sua saída do Egito.
2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
2 Ali, no deserto, todos eles começaram a reclamar contra Moisés e Arão,
3 And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpot, when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
3 dizendo assim: — Teria sido melhor que o
4 Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will let rain for you bread from heaven; and the people shall go out and gather a certain portion every day, in order that I may prove it, whether it will walk in my law, or not.
4 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés: — Agora eu vou fazer chover do céu pão para vocês. E o povo deverá sair, e cada um deverá juntar uma porção que dê para um dia. Assim eu os porei à prova para saber se eles vão obedecer às minhas ordens.
5 And it shall come to pass, on the sixth day, when they prepare what they shall have brought in, that it shall be twice as much as they shall gather daily.
5 No sexto dia deverão juntar e preparar o dobro do que costumam juntar nos outros dias.
6 And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At evening, then shall ye know that it is the Lord who hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
6 Então Moisés e Arão disseram ao povo: — Hoje à tarde vocês ficarão sabendo que foi o
7 And in the morning, then shall ye see the glory of the Lord; since he heareth your murmurings against the Lord; and what are we, that ye should murmur against us?
7 Amanhã de manhã vocês verão a glória do Senhor , pois o Senhor ouviu as reclamações de vocês contra ele. Foi contra ele, e não contra nós, que vocês reclamaram; pois, afinal de contas, quem somos nós?
8 And Moses said, When the Lord giveth you in the evening flesh to eat, and bread in the morning to the full; since the Lord heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him:what are we then? not against us are your murmurings, but against the Lord.
8 E Moisés continuou: — É Deus, o
9 And Moses said unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the Lord; for he hath heard your murmurings.
9 Aí Moisés disse a Arão: — Diga a todo o povo que venha e fique diante de Deus, o
10 And it came to pass, as Aaron was speaking unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they turned round toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud.
10 Enquanto Arão estava falando a todo o povo, eles olharam para o deserto, e, de repente, a glória do Senhor apareceu numa nuvem.
11 And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,
11 E o Senhor disse a Moisés:
12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, Toward evening ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the Eternal your God.
12 — Eu tenho ouvido as reclamações dos israelitas. Diga-lhes que hoje à tarde, antes de escurecer, eles comerão carne. E amanhã de manhã comerão pão à vontade. Aí ficarão sabendo que eu, o Senhor , sou o Deus deles.
13 And it came to pass, that at evening the quails came up, and covered the camp; and in the morning there was a layer of dew round about the camp.
13 À tarde apareceu um grande bando de codornas; eram tantas, que cobriram o acampamento. E no dia seguinte, de manhã, havia orvalho em volta de todo o acampamento.
14 And when the layer of dew was gone up, behold, there was upon the face of the wilderness something fine in grains, small as the hoarfrost, on the ground.
14 Quando o orvalho secou, por cima da areia do deserto ficou uma coisa parecida com escamas, fina como a geada no chão.
15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna, for they knew not what it was; and Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat.
15 Os israelitas viram aquilo e não sabiam o que era. Então perguntaram uns aos outros: — O que é isso? Moisés lhes disse: — Isso é o alimento que o
16 This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating: an omer for every head, according to the number of your persons that every man hath in his tent, shall ye take.
16 Esta é a ordem que ele deu: “Cada um de vocês deverá juntar o que for necessário para comer, de acordo com o número de pessoas que houver na família, dois litros por pessoa.”
17 And the children of Israel did so; and they gathered, some much, some little.
17 E assim fizeram os israelitas. Uns pegaram mais, e outros, menos.
18 And when they measured it with an omer, he that had gathered much had nothing over, and he that had gathered little had no lack: every man according to his eating, had they gathered.
18 Quando mediram, aconteceu que os que haviam pegado muito não tinham demais; e não faltava nada para os que haviam pegado pouco. Cada um havia pegado exatamente o necessário para comer.
19 And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.
19 Então Moisés lhes disse: — Ninguém deverá guardar nada para o dia seguinte.
20 But they hearkened not unto Moses; but some men left of it until morning, and it bred worms, and stank; and Moses was wroth with them.
20 Mas alguns não obedeceram à ordem de Moisés e guardaram uma parte daquele alimento. E no dia seguinte o que tinha sido guardado estava cheio de bichos e cheirava mal. Aí Moisés ficou muito irritado com eles.
21 And so they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating; and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.
21 Todas as manhãs cada um pegava o necessário para comer naquele dia, pois o calor do sol derretia o que ficava no chão.
22 And it came to pass on the sixth day, that they gathered twofold bread, two omers for every one; all the rulers of the congregation came and told it to Moses.
22 No sexto dia pegaram o dobro, isto é, quatro litros para cada pessoa. Os líderes do povo foram e contaram a Moisés o que estava acontecendo.
23 And he said unto them. This is what the Lord hath spoken, A rest, a holy rest is unto the Lord tomorrow: that which ye will bake bake today, and what ye will seethe seethe today; and all the remaining lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
23 E Moisés lhes disse: — Amanhã é dia de descanso, o sábado santo, separado para Deus, o
24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses had bidden; and it did not stink, nor was there any worm therein.
24 Conforme a ordem de Moisés, todos guardaram para o dia seguinte o que havia sobrado. E não cheirou mal, nem criou bicho.
25 And Moses said, Eat it today; for a sabbath is this day unto the Lord: today ye will not find it in the field.
25 Moisés disse: — Comam isto hoje, pois é sábado, o dia de descanso separado para Deus, o
26 Six days shall ye gather it; but on the seventh day, the sabbath, on it there shall be none.
26 Recolham esse alimento durante seis dias; porém no sétimo dia, que é o dia de descanso, não haverá alimento no chão.
27 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that there went out some of the people to gather; but they found nothing.
27 No sétimo dia algumas pessoas saíram para pegar o alimento, porém não acharam nada.
28 And the Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?
28 Então o Senhor Deus disse a Moisés: — Até quando vocês vão desobedecer às minhas ordens e às minhas
29 See, that the Lord hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day bread for two days; remain ye, every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.
29 Lembrem que eu, o Senhor , dei a vocês um dia de descanso e foi por isso que no sexto dia eu lhes dei alimento para dois dias. No sétimo dia fiquem todos onde estiverem; ninguém deverá sair de casa.
30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
30 Assim, o povo não trabalhou no sétimo dia.
31 And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna, Man; and it was like corianderseed, white, and its taste was like wafers made with honey.
31 Os israelitas deram àquele alimento o nome de maná . Ele era parecido com uma sementinha branca e tinha gosto de bolo de mel.
32 And Moses said, This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded, One omerfull of it is to be kept for your generations; in order that they may see the bread which I gave you to eat in the wilderness, when I brought you forth out of the land of Egypt.
32 Moisés disse: — O
33 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a flask, and put therein an omerfull of manna, and lay it up before the Lord, to be kept for your generations.
33 Então Moisés disse a Arão: — Pegue uma vasilha, ponha nela dois litros de maná e coloque-a na presença de Deus, o
34 As the Lord had commanded Moses, so did Aaron lay it up before the Testimony, to be kept.
34 Arão fez como o Senhor havia ordenado a Moisés e colocou a vasilha diante da arca da aliança para que ficasse guardada ali.
35 And the children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; the manna they did eat, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.
35 Durante quarenta anos os israelitas tiveram maná para comer, até que chegaram a uma terra habitada, isto é, até que chegaram à fronteira de Canaã.
36 But the omer is a tenth part of an ephah.
36 A porção de maná para cada pessoa era a décima parte da medida padrão , que tinha vinte litros.
