1 In that night sleep fled from the king, and he ordered to bring in the book of the memorable events of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
1 Naquela mesma noite, o rei não conseguiu pegar no sono; então mandou buscar o livro em que se escrevia o que acontecia no reino e ordenou que os seus funcionários lessem para ele.
2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Theresh, two chamberlains of the king, of those who kept the door, who had sought to lay their hand on king Achashverosh.
2 A parte que leram contava como Mordecai tinha descoberto o plano para matar o rei, plano este preparado por Bigtã e Teres, os dois eunucos que eram guardas do palácio.
3 And the king said, What honor and distinction have been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the kings young men, his servants, There hath nothing been done with him.
3 Aí o rei perguntou: — Que homenagens foram prestadas e que prêmios foram dados a Mordecai por ter feito isso? — Nada se fez a esse respeito! — responderam os funcionários.
4 And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outer court of the kings house, to say unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows which he had prepared for him.
4 Justamente nesse instante, Hamã entrou no pátio que ficava ao lado dos quartos do rei para lhe pedir que mandasse enforcar Mordecai na forca que ele, Hamã, havia mandado construir. O rei perguntou: — Quem está no pátio?
5 And the kings young men said unto him, Behold, Haman is standing in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
5 — É Hamã! — responderam os servidores. — Mandem que entre! — ordenou o rei.
6 So Haman came in; and the king said unto him, What shall be done with the man whom the king desireth to honor? And Haman said in his heart, To whom would the king desire to do honor more than to myself?
6 Hamã entrou, e o rei lhe disse: — Eu quero ter o prazer de prestar homenagens a um certo homem. Diga-me o que devo fazer por ele. Hamã pensou assim: “Quem será esse homem a quem o rei tanto quer honrar? É claro que sou eu!”
7 Haman therefore said to the king, For the man whom the king desireth to honor,
7 E Hamã disse ao rei:
8 Let them bring a royal apparel which the king hath worn, and a horse on which the king hath ridden, and let there be placed a royal crown on his head.
8 — Mande trazer as roupas que o senhor usa e também o cavalo que o senhor monta e mande colocar uma coroa real na cabeça do cavalo.
9 And let the apparel and the horse be given into the hand of one of the kings princes, of the most noble, that they may array the man whom the king desireth to honor, and let them cause him to ride on the horse through the streets of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall be done to the man whom the king desireth to honor.
9 Então entregue as roupas e o cavalo a um dos mais altos funcionários do reino e ordene que ele vista as roupas no homem que o senhor deseja honrar. Depois, que ele leve o homem, montado a cavalo, pela praça principal da cidade e que diga em voz alta o seguinte: “É isto o que o rei faz pelo homem a quem ele quer honrar!”
10 Then said the king to Haman, Make haste, take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast spoken, and do thus to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the kings gate: leave out nothing of all that thou hast spoken.
10 Então o rei disse a Hamã: — Vá depressa, e pegue as roupas e o cavalo, e faça com o judeu Mordecai tudo o que você acaba de dizer. Ele costuma ficar sentado na entrada do palácio. Não deixe de fazer nenhuma das coisas que você disse.
11 And Haman then took the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and caused him to ride through the streets of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall be done unto the man whom the king desireth to honor.
11 Hamã foi, pegou as roupas e o cavalo e vestiu as roupas em Mordecai. Depois levou Mordecai, montado a cavalo, pela praça principal da cidade e disse em voz alta: “É isto o que o rei faz pelo homem a quem ele quer honrar!”
12 And Mordecai thereupon returned to the kings gate; but Haman hastened to his house, mourning, and having his head covered.
12 Depois disso, Mordecai voltou para a entrada do palácio, enquanto que Hamã, envergonhado e triste, correu para casa, escondendo o rosto.
13 And Haman related to Zeresh his wife and to all his friends all that had befallen him: then said unto him his wise men and Zeresh his wife, If Mordecai, before whom thou hast begun to fall, be of the seed of the Jews, thou wilt not prevail against him, but thou wilt surely fall before him.
13 Contou à esposa e aos amigos tudo o que tinha acontecido com ele. Então ela e os seus amigos, que eram tão sabidos, disseram: — Você já começou a perder a luta com Mordecai. Ele é judeu, e você não vai ganhar de jeito nenhum. Você vai perder na certa.
14 They were yet speaking with him, when the kings chamberlains arrived, and they hastened to bring Haman unto the banquet which Esther had prepared.
14 Eles ainda estavam falando quando os eunucos que estavam ao serviço do rei chegaram e levaram Hamã imediatamente ao banquete que Ester tinha preparado.
