1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come nigh unto a court of justice, and they judge them; and they justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked:
1 — Quando houver desentendimento entre dois homens, e vierem a juízo, os juízes os julgarão, justificando o inocente e condenando o culpado.
2 Then shall it be, if the guilty man deserve to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to the degree of his fault, by a certain number.
2 Se o culpado merecer açoites, o juiz mandará que ele se deite no chão e seja açoitado, na sua presença, com o número de açoites que o caso exigir.
3 Forty stripes may he give him, not more; so that he shall not exceed to have him beaten above these with too many stripes, and thy brother be thus rendered vile before thy eyes.
3 Poderá ordenar quarenta açoites, não mais; do contrário, se ordenasse mais do que isso, um compatriota seria humilhado aos olhos de vocês.
4 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he thresheth out the corn.
4 — Não amarrem a boca do boi quando estiver pisando o trigo.
5 If brothers dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child: then shall the wife of the dead not be married abroad, unto a stranger; her husbands brother shall go in unto her, and take her to himself for wife, and perform the duty of a husbands brother unto her.
5 — Se dois irmãos morarem juntos, e um deles morrer sem filhos, a mulher do que morreu não se casará com um estranho, alguém de fora da família; seu cunhado a tomará, a receberá por mulher e exercerá para com ela a obrigação de cunhado.
6 And it shall be, that the firstborn whom she may bear shall succeed in the name of his brother who is dead; so that his name be not blotted out of Israel.
6 O primogênito que ela lhe der será sucessor do nome do seu irmão falecido, para que o nome deste não se apague em Israel.
7 And if the man have no desire to take his sisterinlaw: then shall his sisterinlaw go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husbands brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform on me the duty of a husbands brother.
7 — Porém, se o homem não quiser se casar com a cunhada, ela irá ao portão da cidade para falar com os anciãos, e dirá: “Meu cunhado se recusa a dar continuidade ao nome de seu irmão em Israel; não quer exercer para comigo a obrigação de cunhado.”
8 Then shall the elders of his city call him, and speak unto him; and if he persist, and say, I have no desire to take her:
8 Então os anciãos da cidade devem chamá-lo e falar com ele. Se ele persistir e disser: “Não quero casar com ela”,
9 Then shall his sisterinlaw come nigh unto him in the presence of the elders, and pull his shoe from off his foot, and spit out before him, and shall commence and say, Thus shall be done unto that man that will not build up his brothers house.
9 então a cunhada chegará perto dele, na presença dos anciãos, e lhe descalçará a sandália do pé, e lhe cuspirá no rosto, e protestará, dizendo: “Assim se fará com o homem que não quer edificar a casa de seu irmão.”
10 And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of the barefooted.
10 E, em Israel, se dará à casa daquele homem o nome de “A casa do descalçado”.
11 When men strive together one with the other, and the wife of the one draweth near to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
11 — Quando dois homens estiverem brigando, um contra o outro, e a mulher de um chegar para livrar o marido da mão daquele que o fere, e ela estender a mão, e o pegar pelo órgão genital,
12 Then shalt thou cut off her hand, thy eye shall not have pity.
12 vocês devem cortar a mão dela; não olhem para ela com piedade.
13 Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.
13 — Não levem na bolsa pesos diferentes, um grande e um pequeno.
14 Thou shalt not have in thy house divers measures, a great and a small.
14 Não tenham em casa dois tipos de medidas, um grande e um pequeno.
15 A perfect and just weight shalt thou have, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have; in order that thy days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee;
15 Usem um peso integral e justo, e uma medida integral e justa; para que se prolonguem os seus dias na terra que o Senhor , seu Deus, lhes dá.
16 For an abomination of the Lord thy God is every one that doth such things, every one that acteth unrighteously.
16 Porque todo aquele que pratica tal injustiça é abominação ao Senhor , o Deus de vocês.
17 Remember what Amalek did unto thee, by the way, at your coming forth out of Egypt;
17 — Lembrem-se do que os amalequitas fizeram no caminho, quando vocês estavam saindo do Egito.
18 How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, all that were feeble behind thee, when thou was faint and weary; and he feared not God.
18 Eles saíram ao encontro de vocês no caminho e, quando vocês estavam abatidos e cansados, atacaram na retaguarda todos os desfalecidos que vinham atrás; e não temeram a Deus.
19 And it shall come to pass, when the Lord thy God giveth thee rest from all thy enemies round about, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens: thou shalt not forget.
19 Portanto, quando o Senhor , seu Deus, lhes houver dado sossego de todos os seus inimigos ao redor, na terra que o Senhor , seu Deus, lhes dá por herança, para que dela tomem posse, apaguem a memória dos amalequitas da face da terra; não se esqueçam disto.
