Daniel 1
Leeser Old Testament (LEESER) vs NVI
1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoyakim the king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
1 No terceiro ano do reinado de Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, veio a Jerusalém e a sitiou.
2 And the Lord gave up into his hand Yehoyakim the king of Judah, with part of the vessels of the house of God: and he brought them into the land of Shinar into the house of his god, namely, he brought the vessels into the treasurehouse of his god.
2 E o Senhor entregou Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, nas suas mãos, e também alguns dos utensílios do templo de Deus. Ele levou os utensílios para o templo do seu deus na terra de Sinear e os colocou na casa do tesouro do seu deus.
3 And the king said unto Ashpenas, the chief of his eunuchs, that he should bring out of the children of Israel, and of the royal seed, and of the nobles,
3 Então o rei ordenou que Aspenaz, o chefe dos oficiais da sua corte, trouxesse alguns dos israelitas da família real e da nobreza;
4 Certain lads in whom there should be no kind of blemish, but who should be handsome in appearance, and intelligent in all wisdom, and acquainted with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as should have the ability to serve in the kings palace, and that these should be taught the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.
4 jovens sem defeito físico, de boa aparência, cultos, inteligentes, que dominassem os vários campos do conhecimento e fossem capacitados para servir no palácio do rei. Ele devia ensinar-lhes a língua e a literatura dos babilônios.
5 And the king ordered for them a daily provision for its day of the kings food, and of the wine which he drank, and to educate them three years, so that at the end thereof they should serve before the king.
5 O rei designou-lhes uma porção diária de comida e de vinho da própria mesa do rei. Eles receberiam um treinamento durante três anos, e depois disso passariam a servir o rei.
6 Now there were among these of the children of Judah, Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and Azaryah.
6 Entre esses estavam alguns que vieram de Judá: Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias.
7 And the chief of the eunuchs assigned them names; and he assigned to Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Chananyah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azaryah, of Abednego.
7 O chefe dos oficiais deu-lhes novos nomes: a Daniel deu o nome de Beltessazar; a Hananias, Sadraque; a Misael, Mesaque; e a Azarias, Abede-Nego.
8 But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not defile himself with the food of the king, nor with the wine which he drank: and therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not need to defile himself.
8 Daniel, contudo, decidiu não se tornar impuro com a comida e com o vinho do rei, e pediu ao chefe dos oficiais permissão para se abster deles.
9 And God gave Daniel kindness and mercy before the chief of the eunuchs.
9 E Deus fez com que o homem fosse bondoso para com Daniel e tivesse simpatia por ele.
10 And the chief of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath ordered your food and your drink; for why should he see your face sadder looking than that of the lads who are of your age? and ye would thus endanger my head with the king.
10 Apesar disso, ele disse a Daniel: "Tenho medo do rei, o meu senhor, que determinou a comida e a bebida de vocês. E se ele os achar menos saudáveis que os outros jovens da mesma idade? O rei poderia pedir a minha cabeça por causa de vocês".
11 Then said Daniel to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had given charge over Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and Azaryah,
11 Daniel disse então ao homem que o chefe dos oficiais tinha encarregado de cuidar de Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias:
12 Prove, I beseech thee, thy servants, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink;
12 "Peço-lhe que faça uma experiência com os seus servos durante dez dias: Não nos dê nada além de vegetais para comer e água para beber.
13 And then let our countenances be looked at before thee, and the countenance of the lads that eat the food of the king: and as thou mayest see fitting, so deal with thy servants.
13 Depois compare a nossa aparência com a dos jovens que comem a comida do rei, e trate os seus servos de acordo com o que você concluir".
14 And he hearkened unto them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
14 Ele concordou e fez a experiência com eles durante dez dias.
15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared better and fuller in flesh than that of all the lads who ate the food of the king.
15 Passados os dez dias eles pareciam mais saudáveis e mais fortes do que todos os jovens que comiam a comida da mesa do rei.
16 And the steward took away their apportioned food, and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.
16 Assim o encarregado tirou a comida especial e o vinho que haviam sido designados e em lugar disso lhes dava vegetais.
17 But as regardeth all these four lads, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
17 A esses quatro jovens Deus deu sabedoria e inteligência para conhecerem todos os aspectos da cultura e da ciência. E Daniel, além disso, sabia interpretar todo tipo de visões e sonhos.
18 And at the end of the days after which the king had said that they should be presented, the chief of the eunuchs presented them before Nebuchadnezzar.
18 Ao final do tempo estabelecido pelo rei para que os jovens fossem trazidos à sua presença, o chefe dos oficiais os apresentou a Nabucodonosor.
19 And the king spoke with them; and there was not found among them all any one like Daniel, Chananyah, Mishael, and Azaryah: and so they served before the king.
19 O rei conversou com eles, e não encontrou ninguém comparável a Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias; de modo que eles passaram a servir o rei.
20 And in every matter of wise understanding, which the king required of them, he found them ten times superior above all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his kingdom.
20 O rei lhes fez perguntas sobre todos os assuntos nos quais se exigia sabedoria e conhecimento, e descobriu que eram dez vezes mais sábios do que todos os magos e encantadores de todo o seu reino.
21 And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
21 E Daniel permaneceu ali até o primeiro ano do rei Ciro.
