1 The words of ‘Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he foresaw concerning Israel in the days of ‘Uzziyah the king of Judah, and in the days of Jerobo’am the son of Joash the king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
1 Esta é a mensagem a respeito do povo de Israel que Deus deu a Amós, pastor de ovelhas da cidade de Tecoa. Isso aconteceu dois anos antes do terremoto, quando Uzias era rei de Judá, e Jeroboão, filho de Joás, era rei de Israel.
2 And he said, The Lord will cry aloud out of Zion, and from Jerusalem will he send forth his voice; and then shall mourn the pastures of the shepherds, and then shall dry up the top of Carmel.
2 Amós disse: “Do monte o e a sua voz parece o trovão. Os pastos murcham, e tudo seca no monte Carmelo.”
3 Thus hath said the Lord, For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, will I not turn away their punishment; because they have threshed the inhabitants of Gil’ad with threshing instruments of iron;
3 O Senhor Deus diz: — O povo de Damasco tem cometido tantos pecados, tantos mesmo, que eu tenho de castigá-los. Eles torturaram o povo de Gileade, fazendo passar sobre eles rodas com pontas de ferro.
4 And I will send a fire into the house of Chazael, which shall devour the palaces of Ben–hadad.
4 Por isso, eu vou pôr fogo no palácio do rei Hazael, e esse mesmo fogo destruirá também as fortalezas do rei Ben-Hadade.
5 And I will break the bars of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitants from the valley of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of ‘Eden: and the people of Syria shall be exiled unto Kir, saith the Lord.
5 Arrombarei os portões da cidade de Damasco e acabarei com os governadores de Biqueate-Avém e de Bete-Éden. O povo da Síria será levado como prisioneiro para a terra de Quir. Eu, o Senhor , falei.
6 Thus hath said the Lord, For three transgressions of Gazzah, and for four, will I not turn away their punishment; because they carried away exiles in full numbers, to deliver them up to Edom;
6 O Senhor Deus diz: — O povo de Gaza tem cometido tantos pecados, tantos mesmo, que eu tenho de castigá-los. Eles levaram como prisioneiro todo o povo de uma região e os venderam como escravos ao povo de Edom.
7 And I will send a fire against the wall of Gazzah, which shall devour her palaces;
7 Por isso, eu vou pôr fogo nas muralhas de Gaza, e esse mesmo fogo destruirá também as fortalezas daquela cidade.
8 And I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn my hand against ‘Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord Eternal.
8 Vou acabar com os reis de Asdode e de Asquelom. Destruirei a cidade de Ecrom e acabarei com todos os outros filisteus. Eu, o Senhor , falei.
9 Thus hath said the Lord, For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, will I not turn away their punishment; because they delivered up the exiles in full numbers to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant;
9 O Senhor Deus diz: — O povo de Tiro tem cometido tantos pecados, tantos mesmo, que eu tenho de castigá-los. Levaram como prisioneiro para Edom todo o povo de uma região com o qual tinham feito um acordo de amizade.
10 And I will send a fire against the walls of Tyre, which shall devour her palaces.
10 Por isso, eu vou pôr fogo nas muralhas de Tiro, e esse mesmo fogo destruirá também as fortalezas daquela cidade.
11 Thus hath said the Lord, For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, will I not turn away their punishment; because he pursued with the sword his brother, and disregarded his mercy, and his anger tore in pieces continually, and he kept his wrath for ever:
11 O Senhor Deus diz: — O povo do país de Edom tem cometido tantos pecados, tantos mesmo, que eu tenho de castigá-los. Fizeram guerra contra os seus irmãos , os israelitas, e não tiveram dó nem piedade. A raiva dos edomitas não parou, e eles conservaram o seu ódio para sempre.
12 And I will send out a fire against Theman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
12 Por isso, eu vou pôr fogo na cidade de Temã, e esse mesmo fogo destruirá também as fortalezas de Bosra.
13 Thus hath said the Lord, For three transgressions of the children of ‘Ammon, and for four, will I not turn away their punishment; because they have ripped up the pregnant women of Gil’ad, in order to enlarge their own territory;
13 O Senhor Deus diz: — O povo do país de Amom tem cometido tantos pecados, tantos mesmo, que eu tenho de castigá-los. Na guerra para conquistar mais terras na região de Gileade, eles rasgaram as barrigas de mulheres grávidas.
14 And I will kindle a fire within the walls of Rabbah, which shall devour her palaces, with shouting on the day of battle, with a storm on the day of the tempest;
14 Por isso, eu vou pôr fogo nas muralhas de Rabá, e esse mesmo fogo destruirá também as fortalezas daquela cidade. Haverá batalhas violentas e gritos de homens lutando.
15 And their king shall go into exile, he and his princes together, saith the Lord.
15 O rei e as autoridades serão levados como prisioneiros. Eu, o Senhor , falei.
