1 And there happened to be a worthless man, whose name was Sheba’, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite; and he blew the cornet, and said, We have no part in David, nor have we any inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel!
1 Então se achou ali por acaso um homem de Belial, cujo nome era Seba, filho de Bicri, homem de Benjamim, o qual tocou a buzina, e disse: Não temos parte em Davi, nem herança no filho de Jessé; cada um às suas tendas, ó Israel.
2 So every man of Israel went off from David, following Sheba’ the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah adhered unto their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.
2 Então todos os homens de Israel se separaram de Davi, e seguiram Seba, filho de Bicri; porém os homens de Judá se uniram ao seu rei desde o Jordão até Jerusalém.
3 And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women, the concubines, whom he had left to guard the house, and put them in a guard–house, and provided for them, but went not in unto them. So they were confined until the day of their death, living in widowhood.
3 Vindo, pois, Davi para sua casa, em Jerusalém, tomou o rei as dez mulheres, suas concubinas, que deixara para guardarem a casa, e as pôs numa casa sob guarda, e as sustentava; porém não as possuiu; e estiveram encerradas até ao dia da sua morte, vivendo como viúvas.
4 Then said the king to ‘Amassa, Call together for me the men of Judah within three days, and thou present thyself here then.
4 Disse mais o rei a Amasa: Convoca-me os homens de Judá para o terceiro dia; e tu então apresenta-te aqui.
5 So ‘Amassa went to call Judah together; but he remained out longer than the set time which he had appointed him.
5 E foi Amasa para convocar a Judá; porém demorou-se além do tempo que lhe tinha sido designado.
6 And David said to Abishai, Now will Sheba’ the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Abshalom: take thou the servants of thy Lord, and pursue after him, lest he succeed in reaching fortified cities, and withdraw himself from our eyes.
6 Então disse Davi a Abisai: Mais mal agora nos fará Seba, o filho de Bicri, do que Absalão; por isso toma tu os servos de teu senhor, e persegue-o, para que não ache para si cidades fortes, e escape dos nossos olhos.
7 And there went out after him Joab’s men, and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men: and they went forth out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba’ the son of Bichri.
7 Então saíram atrás dele os homens de Joabe, e os quereteus, e os peleteus, e todos os valentes; estes saíram de Jerusalém para irem atrás de Seba, filho de Bicri.
8 They were close by the great stone which is at Gib’on, as ‘Amassa came before them. And Joab was girded with his coat, his usual garment, and upon it the girdle of the sword which was fastened upon his loins in its sheath; and as he went forth it fell out.
8 Chegando eles, pois, à pedra grande, que está junto a Gibeom, Amasa veio diante deles; e estava Joabe cingido da sua roupa que vestira, e sobre ela um cinto, ao qual estava presa a espada a seus lombos, na sua bainha; e, adiantando-se ele, lhe caiu a espada.
9 And Joab said to ‘Amassa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Joab’s right hand took hold of ‘Amassa’s beard to kiss him.
9 E disse Joabe a Amasa: Vai bem, meu irmão? E Joabe, com a mão direita, pegou da barba de Amasa, para o beijar.
10 And ‘Amassa did not guard himself against the sword that was in Joab’s hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. But Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba’ the son of Bichri.
10 E Amasa não se resguardou da espada que estava na mão de Joabe, de sorte que este o feriu com ela na quinta costela, e lhe derramou por terra as entranhas, e não o feriu segunda vez, e morreu; então Joabe e Abisai, seu irmão, foram atrás de Seba, filho de Bicri.
11 And one man of Joab’s people remained standing by him, and said, He that favoreth Joab, and he that is for David, follow Joab.
11 Mas um dentre os homens de Joabe parou junto a ele, e disse: Quem há que queira bem a Joabe, e quem seja por Davi, siga Joabe.
12 And ‘Amassa was wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he put ‘Amassa aside out of the highway into the field, and threw a garment over him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.
12 E Amasa estava envolto no seu sangue no meio do caminho; e, vendo aquele homem, que todo o povo parava, removeu a Amasa do caminho para o campo, e lançou sobre ele um manto; porque via que todo aquele que chegava a ele parava.
13 When he was removed out of the highway, every man passed on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba’ the son of Bichri.
13 E, como estava removido do caminho, todos os homens seguiram a Joabe, para perseguirem a Seba, filho de Bicri.
14 And this one passed through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, which is of Beth–ma’achah, and all the Berim: and they assembled themselves together, and went also after him.
14 E ele passou por todas as tribos de Israel até Abel, e Bete-Maaca e a todos os beritas; e ajuntaram-se, e também o seguiram.
15 And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth–ma’achah, and they cast up a trench against the city, and it stood enclosed by the troops: and all the people that were with Joab were battering to throw down the wall.
15 E vieram, e o cercaram em Abel de Bete-Maaca, e levantaram uma barragem contra a cidade, e isto colocado na trincheira; e todo o povo que estava com Joabe batia no muro, para derrubá-lo.
16 Then called a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear: say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near as far as hither, that I may speak with thee.
16 Então uma mulher sábia gritou de dentro da cidade: Ouvi, ouvi, peço-vos que digais a Joabe: Chega-te aqui, para que eu te fale.
17 And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he said, I am. Then said she unto him, Hear the words of thy hand–maid. And he said, I do hear.
17 Chegando-se a ela, a mulher lhe disse: Tu és Joabe? E disse ele: Eu sou. E ela lhe disse: Ouve as palavras da tua serva. E disse ele: Ouço.
18 Then said she, thus, They ought surely first to have spoken, saying, "Let them ask at least in Abel:" and so would they have come to an end.
18 Então falou ela, dizendo: Antigamente costumava-se dizer: Certamente pediram conselho a Abel; e assim resolveram.
19 I am one of the peaceful and faithful cities in Israel; thou seekest to overthrow a city and a metropolis in Israel: why wilt thou destroy the inheritance of the Lord?
19 Sou eu uma das pacíficas e das fiéis em Israel; e tu procuras matar uma cidade que é mãe em Israel; por que, pois, devorarias a herança do Senhor?
20 And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should destroy or ruin.
20 Então respondeu Joabe, e disse: Longe, longe de mim que eu tal faça, que eu devore ou arruíne!
21 The matter is not so; but a man from the mountains of Ephraim, Sheba’ the son of Bichri is his name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, against David: give him up alone, and I will withdraw from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be cast down to thee over the wall.
21 A coisa não é assim; porém um só homem do monte de Efraim, cujo nome é Seba, filho de Bicri, levantou a mão contra o rei, contra Davi; entregai-me só este, e retirar-me-ei da cidade. Então disse a mulher a Joabe: Eis que te será lançada a sua cabeça pelo muro.
22 And the woman came unto all the people with her wisdom; and they cut off the head of Sheba’ the son of Bichri, and cast it down to Joab: and he blew the cornet, and they scattered themselves from the city, every man to his tents. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.
22 E a mulher, na sua sabedoria, foi a todo o povo, e cortaram a cabeça de Seba, filho de Bicri, e a lançaram a Joabe; então este tocou a buzina, e se retiraram da cidade, cada um para a sua tenda, e Joabe voltou a Jerusalém, ao rei.
23 Now Joab was over all the army of Israel; and Benayah the son of Yehoyada’ was over the Kerethites and over the Pelethites;
23 E Joabe estava sobre todo o exército de Israel; e Benaia, filho de Joiada, sobre os quereteus e sobre os peleteus;
24 And Adoram was over the tribute; and Jehoshaphat the son of Achilud was recorder;
24 E Adorão sobre os tributos; e Jeosafá, filho de Ailude, era o cronista;
25 And Sheva was scribe; and Zadok and Ebyathar were priests;
25 E Seva, o escrivão; e Zadoque e Abiatar, os sacerdotes;
26 And ‘Ira also the Yairite was an officer of state unto David.
26 E também Ira, o jairita, era o oficial-mor de Davi.
