1 And it came to pass, at the return of the same season of the year, at the time when kings go forth, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David remained behind at Jerusalem.
1 E sucedeu, depois de o ano ter expirado, na época em que os reis saíam para a batalha, que Davi enviou Joabe, e com ele os seus servos, e todo o Israel; e eles destruíram os filhos de Amom, e sitiaram Rabá. Davi, porém, se manteve em Jerusalém.
2 And it happened at eveningtide, that David arose from off his couch, and walked upon the roof of the kings house: and he saw from the roof a woman bathing herself; and the woman was of a very beautiful appearance.
2 E sucedeu, ao cair da noite, que Davi se levantou da sua cama e caminhava sobre o terraço da casa do rei; e do terraço ele viu uma mulher se banhando; e a mulher era mui bonita de se olhar.
3 And David sent and inquired after the woman; and some one said, Behold, this is Bethsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriyah the Hittite.
3 E Davi enviou a inquirir acerca da mulher. E foi-lhe dito: Não é essa Bate-Seba, a filha de Eliã, a esposa de Urias, o heteu?
4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her, and she had just purified herself from her uncleanness; and she returned unto her house.
4 E Davi enviou mensageiros, e a tomou; e ela adentrou a ele, e ele se deitou com ela; porquanto ela estava purificada da sua impureza; e ela retornou à sua casa.
5 And the woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, I am with child.
5 E a mulher concebeu, e mandou contar a Davi, e disse: Estou com criança.
6 And David sent to Joab, Send unto me Uriyah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriyah to David.
6 E Davi enviou a Joabe, dizendo: Envia-me Urias, o heteu. E Joabe enviou Urias até Davi.
7 And when Uriyah was come unto him, David asked after the wellbeing of Joab, and after the wellbeing of the people, and how the war prospered.
7 E quando Urias havia chegado até ele, Davi exigiu dele saber sobre como estava Joabe, como estava o povo, e como prosperava a guerra.
8 And David said to Uriyah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriyah went forth out of the kings house, and there followed him a mess of food from the king.
8 E Davi disse a Urias: Desce à tua casa, e lava os teus pés. E Urias partiu da casa do rei, e ali seguiu-lhe uma porção de carne da parte do rei.
9 But Uriyah laid himself down at the door of the kings house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.
9 Urias, no entanto, dormiu à porta da casa do rei, com todos os servos do seu senhor, e não desceu à sua casa.
10 And they told David, saying, Uriyah is not gone down unto his house: and David said unto Uriyah, Art thou not come from a journey? why then art thou not gone down unto thy own house?
10 E quando contaram a Davi, dizendo: Urias não desceu à sua casa; Davi disse a Urias: Não vieste da tua jornada? Por que, então, não desceste à tua casa?
11 Then said Uriyah unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah abide in booths; and my Lord Joab and the servants of my Lord are encamped in the open field: and should I alone go unto my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
11 E Urias disse a Davi: A arca, e Israel, e Judá habitam em tendas; e o meu senhor, Joabe, e os servos do meu senhor estão acampados nos campos abertos; entrarei eu, então, na minha casa para comer e beber e me deitar com a minha esposa? Como tu vives e como vive a tua alma, tal coisa não farei.
12 And David said unto Uriyah, Tarry here also this day, and tomorrow will I send thee off. So Uriyah remained in Jerusalem on that day and the following.
12 E Davi disse a Urias: Espera aqui hoje também, e amanhã eu te deixarei partir. Assim, Urias permaneceu em Jerusalém naquele dia, e no dia seguinte.
13 And David invited him, and he ate and drank before him, and he made him drunken; and he went out in the evening to lie down on his restingplace with the servants of his lord; but to his house he did not go down.
13 E quando Davi lhe chamou, ele comeu, e bebeu diante dele; e ele o embebedou; e, ao anoitecer, ele saiu com os servos do seu senhor para se deitar na sua cama, mas não desceu à sua casa.
14 And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriyah.
14 E sucedeu, pela manhã, que Davi escreveu uma carta a Joabe, e a enviou por mão de Urias.
15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set Uriyah in front, opposite to the hottest fight, and then withdraw from behind him, that he may be smitten and die.
15 E ele escreveu na carta, dizendo: Colocai Urias na linha de frente da batalha mais ardente, e retirai-vos dele, para que ele possa ser ferido, e morra.
16 And it came to pass, when Joab was enclosing the city, that he placed Uriyah toward the spot of which he knew that valiant men were there.
16 E sucedeu, quando Joabe observava a cidade, que ele designou Urias para um local onde ele sabia que havia homens valentes.
17 And the men of the city went out and fought with Joab; and there fell some of the people, of the servants of David, and there died also Uriyah the Hittite.
17 E os homens da cidade saíram, e lutaram com Joabe; e ali caíram alguns do povo dos servos de Davi; e Urias, o heteu, também morreu.
18 Then did Joab send, and told unto David all the events of the war.
18 Então Joabe mandou dizer a Davi todas as coisas a respeito da guerra;
19 And he charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast finished telling all the events of the war to the king,
19 e encarregou o mensageiro, dizendo: Quando terminares de contar os assuntos da guerra ao rei,
20 And it happen that the kings wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore did you approach unto the city to fight? knew ye not, that they would shoot down from off the wall?
20 e se assim for que a ira do rei se suscite, e ele te diga: Por que vos aproximastes tanto da cidade quando lutáveis? Não sabíeis vós que eles atirariam da muralha?
21 Who smote Abimelech the son of Yerubbesheth? did not a woman throw down upon him a piece of an upper millstone from off the wall so that he died at Thebez? why did ye approach unto the wall? then must thou say, Also thy servant Uriyah the Hittite is dead.
21 Quem feriu Abimeleque, o filho de Jerubesete? Não lançou uma mulher um pedaço de uma mó da muralha sobre ele, de modo que morreu em Tebes? Por que chegastes vós perto do muro? Então dirás: Teu servo Urias, o heteu, está morto também.
22 And the messenger went, and came and told unto David all for which Joab had sent him.
22 Assim, o mensageiro se foi, e chegou e apresentou a Davi tudo pelo que Joabe o havia enviado.
23 And the messenger said unto David, Because the men overpowered us and came out against us into the field; but we set upon them, as far as the entrance of the gate.
23 E o mensageiro disse a Davi: Certamente os homens prevaleceram contra nós, e saíram até nós no campo, e estivemos sobre eles até a entrada do portão.
24 And the archers then shot at thy servants from off the wall; and there died some of the servants of the king, and also thy servant Uriyah the Hittite is dead.
24 E os artilheiros atiravam da muralha sobre os teus servos; e alguns dos servos do rei estão mortos, e o teu servo Urias, o heteu, está morto também.
25 Then said David to the messenger, Thus shalt thou say to Joab, Let this thing not be displeasing in thy eyes; for at times this, at other times the other will the sword devour; continue firmly in thy war against the city, and overthrow it: and thus do thou encourage him.
25 Então, Davi disse ao mensageiro: Assim dirás a Joabe: Não deixes esta questão te aborrecer, porque a espada devora tanto a um, quanto a outro; faz a tua batalha mais forte contra a cidade, e derruba-a; e encoraja tu a ele.
26 And when the wife of Uriyah heard that Uriyah her husband had died, she mourned for her lord.
26 E, quando a esposa de Urias ouviu que Urias, o seu marido, estava morto, ela lamentou pelo seu marido.
27 And when the time of mourning was past, David sent and took her to his house, and she became his wife; and she bore him a son. But the thing which David had done was displeasing in the eyes of the Lord.
27 E, quando o lamento havia passado, Davi mandou trazê-la para sua casa, e ela se tornou sua esposa, e lhe deu um filho. Contudo, a coisa que Davi havia feito desagradou o SENHOR.
