1 Eight years old was Josiah when he became king, and thirty and one years did he reign in Jerusalem.
1 Josias tinha oito anos de idade quando começou a reinar; e reinou em Jerusalém trinta e um anos.
2 And he did what is right in the eyes of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father, and turned not aside to the right or to the left.
2 E ele fez aquilo que era reto aos olhos do SENHOR, e andou em todos os caminhos de Davi, o seu pai, e não se inclinou nem para a direita, nem para a esquerda.
3 And in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet a lad, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purify Judah and Jerusalem from the high–places, and the Asherim, and the carved images, and the molten images.
3 Porque, no oitavo ano do seu reinado, enquanto ele era ainda jovem, começou a buscar o Deus de Davi, o seu pai; e no décimo segundo ano começou a purificar a Judá e a Jerusalém dos lugares altos, e dos bosques, e das imagens esculpidas, e das imagens derretidas.
4 And they broke down in his presence the altars of the Be’alim, and the sun–images, that were set above them, he cut down; and the Asherim, and the carved images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and ground down, and strewed the same upon the graves of those that had sacrificed unto them.
4 E eles demoliram os altares dos baalins na sua presença; e as imagens que estavam no alto, acima deles, ele cortou; e os bosques, e as imagens esculpidas, e as imagens derretidas, ele quebrou em pedaços, delas fez pó, e o espalhou sobre os sepulcros daqueles que haviam sacrificado a elas.
5 And the bones of priests did he burn upon their altars; and he purified Judah and Jerusalem.
5 E ele queimou os ossos dos sacerdotes sobre os seus altares, e purificou Judá e Jerusalém.
6 And so did he in the cities of Menasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even as far as Naphtali, with their mattocks, round about.
6 E assim fez ele nas cidades de Manassés, e Efraim, e Simeão, chegando até Naftali, com os seus enxadões pelas cercanias.
7 And when he had broken down the altars and had beaten the Asherim and the graven images into powder, and cut down all the sun–images throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
7 E quando ele demoliu os altares, e os bosques, e reduziu a pó as imagens esculpidas, e cortou todos os ídolos por toda a terra de Israel, ele retornou a Jerusalém.
8 And in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purified the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azalyahu, and Ma’asseyahu the governor of the city and Joach the son of Joachaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.
8 Ora, no décimo oitavo ano do seu reinado, quando ele havia purificado a terra e a casa, enviou a Safã, o filho de Azalias, e Maaseias, o governador da cidade, e a Joá, o filho de Joacaz, o cronista, para restaurarem a casa do SENHOR seu Deus.
9 And they came to Chilkiyahu the high–priest, and gave up the money that had been brought into the house of God, which the Levites that watched at the threshold had gathered from the hand of Menasseh and Ephraim, and from all the remnant of Israel, and from all Judah and Benjamin, and were returned to Jerusalem.––
9 E, quando eles vieram a Hilquias, o sumo sacerdote, entregaram o dinheiro que fora trazido para dentro da casa de Deus, o qual os levitas que guardavam as portas haviam coletado das mãos de Manassés e de Efraim, e de todo o remanescente de Israel, e de todo o Judá e Benjamim; e eles retornaram a Jerusalém.
10 And they delivered it into the hand of those who overlooked the workmen that had been appointed as overseers of the house of the Lord: and those who overlooked the workmen, who did the work in the house of the Lord, gave it out, to repair and to restore the house,
10 E eles o colocaram na mão dos trabalhadores que faziam a supervisão da casa do SENHOR, estes o deram aos que trabalhavam na casa do SENHOR, para reparar e consertar a casa;
11 And they gave it to the carpenters and to the builders to buy hewn stone and timber for joists, and to lay the beams in the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
11 e deram-no aos artesãos e aos construtores para comprarem pedra talhada, e madeira para os engastes, e para assoalhar as casas que os reis de Judá haviam destruído.
12 And the men acted faithfully in the work: and over them were appointed Jachath and ‘Obadyahu, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kehathites, to supervise; and every one of these Levites was skilful on instruments of music.
12 E os homens fizeram o trabalho fielmente; e os supervisores deles eram Jaate e Obadias, os levitas, dos filhos de Merari; e Zacarias e Mesulão, dos filhos dos coatitas, para adiantá-la; e outros dos levitas, todos que tinham habilidade com instrumentos de música.
13 They were also over the bearers of burdens and supervisors over all that did the work in every manner of service: and from the Levites there were also scribes, and officers, and gatekeepers.
13 Eles também estavam sobre os carregadores de cargas, e foram supervisores de todos que operavam o trabalho em alguma forma de serviço; e dos levitas havia escribas, e oficiais, e porteiros.
14 And when they took out the money that had been brought into the house of the Lord, Chilkiyahu the priest found the book of the law of the Lord through the hand of Moses.
14 E, quando eles retiraram o dinheiro que foi trazido para dentro da casa do SENHOR, Hilquias, o sacerdote, encontrou um livro da lei do SENHOR dado a Moisés.
15 Then commenced Chilkiyahu and said to Shaphan the scribe, The book of the law have I found in the house of the Lord. And Chilkiyahu gave the book to Shaphan.
15 E Hilquias respondeu e disse a Safã, o escriba: Encontrei o livro da lei na casa do SENHOR. E Hilquias entregou o livro para Safã.
16 And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king also word back again, saying, All that was put in the hand of thy servants, have they truly done.
16 E Safã levou o livro para o rei, e trouxe de volta ao rei o relato, dizendo: Tudo o que foi confiado aos teus servos, eles o fazem.
17 And they have taken out the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and have delivered it into the hand of the appointed overseers, and into the hand of those who overlook the workmen.
17 E eles reuniram o dinheiro que foi encontrado na casa do SENHOR, e o entregaram nas mãos dos supervisores, e nas mãos dos trabalhadores.
18 Then told Shaphan the scribe the king, saying, A book hath Chilkiyahu the priest given me. And Shaphan read in it before the king.
18 Então Safã, o escriba, contou ao rei, dizendo: Hilquias, o sacerdote, deu-me um livro. E Safã o leu diante do rei.
19 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.
19 E sucedeu, quando o rei ouviu as palavras da lei, rasgou as suas vestes.
20 And the king commanded Chilkiyahu, and Achikam the son of Shaphan, and ‘Abdon the son of Michah, and Shaphan the scribe, and ‘Assayah a servant of the king’s, saying,
20 E o rei ordenou a Hilquias, e a Aicão, o filho de Safã, e a Abdom, o filho de Mica, e a Safã, o escrivão, e a Asaías, um servo do rei, dizendo:
21 Go ye, inquire of the Lord in my behalf, and in behalf of those that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that hath been found; for great is the fury of the Lord that is poured out against us, because our fathers did not keep the word of the Lord, to do in accordance with all that is written in this book.
21 Ide, consultai o SENHOR por mim, e por aqueles que são deixados em Israel e em Judá, acerca das palavras do livro que foi achado; pois grande é a ira do SENHOR que é derramada sobre nós, porque os nossos pais não têm guardado a palavra do SENHOR, para fazerem segundo tudo o que está escrito neste livro.
22 Then went Chilkiyahu with those whom the king had appointed, to Chuldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Thoknath, the son of Chassrah, the keeper of the wardrobe; ––now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the suburb; ––and they spoke to her in that wise.
22 E Hilquias, e aqueles que o rei tinha indicado, foram até Hulda, a profetisa, a mulher de Salum, o filho de Tocate, o filho de Harás, o protetor do guarda-roupa, (ora, ela habitava em Jerusalém, na sua segunda parte); e falaram-lhe a esse respeito.
23 And she said unto them, Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, Say unto the man that hath sent you to me,
23 E ela respondeu-lhes: Assim diz o SENHOR Deus de Israel: Dizei ao homem que vos enviou a mim;
24 Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah;
24 assim diz o SENHOR: Eis que trarei o mal sobre este lugar, e sobre os seus habitantes, a saber, todas as maldições que estão escritas no livro que eles leram diante do rei de Judá;
25 Because they have forsaken me, and have burnt incense unto other gods, in order to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands: therefore is my fury poured out upon this place, and it shall not be quenched.
25 porque eles me abandonaram, e têm queimado incenso a outros deuses, para que pudessem me provocar à ira com todas as obras das suas mãos; portanto, a minha ira será derramada sobre este lugar, e não será extinta.
26 And with respect to the king of Judah, who sendeth you to inquire of the Lord, thus shall ye say to him, Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, Concerning the words which thou hast heard;
26 E quanto ao rei de Judá, que vos enviou para consultar ao SENHOR, assim direis a ele: Assim diz o SENHOR Deus de Israel acerca das palavras que tu ouviste:
27 Because thy heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardst his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and didst humble thyself before me, and rend thy clothes, and weep before me: I have also truly heard it, saith the Lord.
27 Como o teu coração foi terno, e tu te humilhaste diante de Deus quando ouviste as suas palavras contra este lugar, e contra os seus habitantes, e te humilhaste diante de mim, e rasgaste as tuas vestes, e choraste diante de mim; eu também te ouvi, diz o SENHOR.
28 Behold, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy graves in peace, and thy eyes shall not look on all the evil which I am bringing over this place, and over its inhabitants. And they brought the king word again.
28 Eis que te reunirei aos teus pais, e tu serás reunido ao teu sepulcro em paz, e os teus olhos não verão todo o mal que trarei sobre este lugar, e sobre os seus habitantes. Assim, eles trouxeram a palavra de volta ao rei.
29 And the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
29 Então o rei enviou e reuniu todos os anciãos de Judá e de Jerusalém.
30 And the king went up into the house of the Lord, with all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, from the great to the small; and he read before their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of the Lord.
30 E o rei subiu à casa do SENHOR, e todos os homens de Judá, e todos os habitantes de Jerusalém, e os sacerdotes, e os levitas, e todo o povo, grandes e pequenos; e ele leu aos seus ouvidos todas as palavras do livro do pacto que foi achado na casa do SENHOR.
31 And the king stood up on his stand, and he made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that are written in this book.
31 E o rei se pôs de pé em seu lugar, e fez um pacto diante do SENHOR, para andarem segundo o SENHOR, e para guardarem os seus mandamentos, e os seus testemunhos, e os seus estatutos de todo o seu coração e de toda a sua alma, para cumprirem as palavras do pacto que estão escritas neste livro.
32 And he caused to accede to it every one that was present in Jerusalem and Benjamin. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem acted in accordance with the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
32 E ele fez com que todos os que estavam presentes em Jerusalém e em Benjamim se pusessem de pé diante dele. E os habitantes de Jerusalém fizeram segundo o pacto de Deus, o Deus dos seus pais.
33 And Josiah removed all the abominations out of all the countries that belonged to the children of Israel, and caused all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the Lord their God. All his days did they not depart from following the Lord God of their fathers.
33 E Josias removeu todas as abominações de todas as regiões que pertenciam aos filhos de Israel, e fez com que todos os que estavam presentes em Israel, servissem ao SENHOR seu Deus. E em todos os seus dias eles não se afastaram de seguir ao SENHOR, o Deus dos seus pais.
