1 When twenty and five years old did Amazyahu become king, and twenty and nine years did he reign in Jerusalem. And his mothers name was Yehoaddan of Jerusalem.
1 Amazias tinha vinte e cinco anos de idade quando se tornou rei de Judá. Ele governou vinte e nove anos em Jerusalém. A mãe dele se chamava Jeoadã e era da cidade de Jerusalém.
2 And he did what is right in the eyes of the Lord, yet not with an entire heart.
2 Amazias fez o que é agradável a Deus, o Senhor , mas não foi sincero.
3 And it came to pass, when the kingdom was firmly established to him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.
3 Logo que se firmou no poder, ele mandou matar os oficiais que haviam assassinado o seu pai, o rei.
4 But their children he put not to death; but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, that the Lord had commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, nor shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.
4 No entanto, não mandou matar os filhos deles, mas seguiu o que o Senhor havia ordenado na Lei de Moisés: “Os pais não serão mortos por causa de crimes cometidos pelos filhos, nem os filhos, por causa de crimes cometidos pelos pais; uma pessoa será morta somente como castigo pelo crime que ela mesma cometeu.”
5 And Amazyahu gathered Judah together, and stationed them after the family divisions, after the captains over the thousands, and after the captains over the hundreds, of all Judah and Benjamin; and he numbered them from twenty years old and upward, and found them to be three hundred thousand chosen men, able to go forth to the army, that could handle spear and shield.
5 Amazias mandou chamar todos os homens que tinham vinte anos de idade para cima das tribos de Judá e de Benjamim. Ele os organizou em grupos de mil e de cem, segundo as famílias a que pertenciam, e os pôs debaixo do comando de oficiais. Eram trezentos mil homens; todos eram soldados corajosos e experientes, armados com lanças e escudos .
6 He hired also out of Israel one hundred thousand mighty men of valor for one hundred talents of silver.
6 Além destes, Amazias contratou cem mil soldados de Israel por uns três mil e quatrocentos quilos de prata.
7 But a man of God came unto him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the Lord is not with Israel, with all the children of Ephraim.
7 Mas um profeta foi falar com Amazias e disse: — Ó rei, não leve esses soldados, pois o
8 But if thou wilt go, and be ever so active and strong for the battle: God will cause thee to stumble before the enemy; for there is power with God to help, and to cause to stumble.
8 Mas, se o senhor achar que com eles o seu exército ficará mais forte, então Deus fará com que o senhor seja vencido pelos inimigos, pois ele tem poder para dar a vitória ou a derrota.
9 Then said Amazyahu to the man of God, But what is it to be done for the hundred talents which I have given to the band of Israel? And the man of God said, The Lord hath enough in his power to give thee much more than this.
9 Amazias perguntou: — Mas o que vai acontecer com toda aquela prata que paguei para que os soldados de Israel lutassem do meu lado? O profeta respondeu: — O
10 Then did Amazyahu separate them, to wit, the band that was come to him out of Ephraim, that they might go to their place: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned to their home in burning anger.
10 Então Amazias mandou os soldados do Reino do Norte de volta para casa. E eles foram embora, furiosos com o povo de Judá.
11 And Amazyahu strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the Valley of Salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand men.
11 Amazias tomou coragem e foi com o seu exército até o vale do Sal, onde matou dez mil edomitas.
12 And ten thousand did the children of Judah take captive alive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were crushed.
12 Outros dez mil foram presos pelos soldados de Amazias e levados até o alto de um rochedo; dali eles foram jogados e morreram esmigalhados lá em baixo.
13 But the men of the band whom Amazyahu had sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, spread themselves about in the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Bethchoron, and smote of them three thousand persons, and plundered much spoil.
13 Enquanto isso, os soldados israelitas que Amazias tinha mandado embora atacaram as cidades de Judá que ficavam entre Samaria e Bete-Horom; mataram três mil pessoas e levaram consigo muitas coisas.
14 And it came to pass, after Amazyahu was come home from smiting the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up unto himself as gods, and before them he used to prostrate himself and unto them he used to burn incense.
14 Depois de ter derrotado os edomitas, Amazias voltou para Jerusalém, trazendo consigo os ídolos deles. Ele fez desses ídolos os seus próprios deuses, e os adorou, e queimou incenso a eles.
15 Wherefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amazyahu, and he sent unto him a prophet, who said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, that have not delivered their own people out of thy hand?
15 O Senhor Deus ficou irado com Amazias e enviou um profeta, que lhe disse o seguinte: — Por que o senhor está adorando esses deuses estrangeiros que não puderam salvar o povo deles das mãos do senhor?
16 And it came to pass, as he was speaking unto him, that he said unto him, Have we ever appointed thee as a counsellor to the king? forbear this: why shouldst thou be smitten? Then did the prophet forbear; and he said, I know that God hath resolved to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.
16 Mas o rei o interrompeu, dizendo: — Desde quando eu coloquei você como meu conselheiro? Cale a boca! Se não, vou mandar matá-lo. O profeta se calou, mas antes disse: — Eu sei que Deus decidiu destruí-lo, pois o senhor fez tudo isso e não deu atenção ao meu conselho.
17 Then held Amazyahu the king of Judah a council, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoachaz, the son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.
17 Depois de consultar os seus conselheiros, o rei Amazias mandou mensageiros ao rei de Israel, Jeoás, que era filho de Jeoacaz e neto de Jeú, desafiando-o para uma batalha.
18 And Joash the king of Israel sent to Amazyahu the king of Judah, saying, The thornbush that was in the Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in the Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son for wife. And there passed along the wild beasts that were in the Lebanon, and trod down the thornbush.
18 Mas o rei Jeoás respondeu assim: — Uma vez um espinheiro dos montes Líbanos mandou a seguinte mensagem para um cedro: “Dê a sua filha em casamento para o meu filho.” Mas um animal selvagem passou por ali e pisou em cima do espinheiro.
19 Thou hast thought, Lo, thou hast smitten Edom; and thy heart hath lifted thee up to acquire much glory: now stay in thy house; why wilt thou meddle with misfortune, that thou mayest fall, thou, and Judah with thee?
19 De fato, você, Amazias, venceu os edomitas e por isso está todo orgulhoso. Alegre-se com a sua fama e fique em casa. Para que arranjar um problema que trará somente a desgraça para você e para o seu povo?
20 But Amazyahu would not hear; for it was ordained by God, in order to deliver them into the hand of Joash; because they had sought after the gods of Edom.
20 Mas Amazias não quis atendê-lo, pois era da vontade de Deus que Amazias e o seu povo fossem presos pelos seus inimigos por terem adorado os deuses dos edomitas.
21 Thereupon did Joash the king of Israel go up: and they looked one another in the face, he and Amazyahu the king of Judah, at Bethshemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
21 Então o rei Jeoás saiu com os seus soldados e lutou contra Amazias em Bete-Semes, na região de Judá.
22 And Judah was defeated before Israel, and they fled every man to his tents.
22 O exército de Amazias foi derrotado, e todos os seus soldados fugiram para casa.
23 And Joash the king of Israel caught Amazyahu the king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoachaz, at Bethshemesh; and he brought him to Jerusalem, and made a breach in the wall of Jerusalem, from the gate of Ephraim unto the cornergate, four hundred cubits.
23 Jeoás prendeu Amazias em Bete-Semes e o levou para Jerusalém, onde derrubou as muralhas da cidade desde o Portão de Efraim até o Portão da Esquina, um trecho de mais ou menos duzentos metros.
24 And taking all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obededom, and the treasures of the kings house, and the children of the chiefs as hostages, he returned to Samaria.
24 Ele pegou toda a prata e todo o ouro que achou, pegou todos os objetos do Templo que estavam sendo guardados pelos descendentes de Obede-Edom e todos os tesouros do palácio e também levou reféns . E voltou para Samaria.
25 And Amazyahu the son of Joash the king of Judah lived after the death of Joash the son of Jehoachaz the king of Israel fifteen years.
25 O rei Amazias, de Judá, viveu quinze anos depois da morte do rei de Israel, Jeoás, filho de Jeoacaz.
26 And the rest of the acts of Amazyahu the first and the last, behold, they are fully written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
26 Todas as outras coisas que Amazias fez, desde o começo até o fim do seu reinado, estão escritas na História dos Reis de Judá e de Israel .
27 Now from the time that Amazyahu departed from following the Lord, they raised a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: wherefore he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.
27 Depois que Amazias se revoltou contra Deus, o Senhor , houve uma conspiração em Jerusalém para matá-lo, e por isso ele fugiu para a cidade de Laquis; mas os seus inimigos o seguiram até lá e o mataram.
28 And they carried him on horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
28 O seu corpo foi levado de volta para Jerusalém num cavalo e foi sepultado nos túmulos dos reis, na Cidade de Davi .
