1 Seven years old was Joash when he became king, and forty years did he reign in Jerusalem: and the name of his mother was Zibyah of Beersheba.
1 Joás tinha sete anos de idade quando se tornou rei de Judá. Ele governou quarenta anos em Jerusalém.
2 And Joash did what is right in the eyes of the Lord, all the days of Yehoyada the priest.
2 A sua mãe se chamava Zíbia e era da cidade de Berseba. Enquanto o sacerdote Joiada vivia, Joás fez o que agrada a Deus, o Senhor .
3 And Yehoyada took for himself two wives, and he begat sons and daughters.
3 Joiada arranjou para Joás duas esposas, que lhe deram filhos e filhas.
4 And it came to pass after this, that Yoash had it in his mind to renew the house of the Lord.
4 Algum tempo depois, Joás decidiu fazer consertos no Templo.
5 And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather from all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and ye shall make haste in this matter. But the Levites made no haste.
5 Mandou chamar os sacerdotes e os levitas e lhes disse: — Vão pelas cidades de Judá e recebam o dinheiro que o povo deve dar para o pagamento dos consertos que são feitos todos os anos no Templo. E façam isso logo! Mas eles não se apressaram.
6 Then called the king for Yehoyada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required from the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the contribution fixed by Moses the servant of the Lord, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of the testimony?
6 Então o rei mandou chamar o Grande Sacerdote Joiada e perguntou: — Por que você não exigiu que os levitas trouxessem de Judá e de Jerusalém o imposto que Moisés,
7 For the sons of the wicked Athalyahu have made breaches in the house of God; and also the holy things of the house of the Lord have they applied to the Bealim.
7 (Atalia, aquela mulher má, e os seus seguidores haviam estragado o Templo e tinham usado os objetos sagrados do Templo na adoração do deus Baal .)
8 And at the kings order they made a chest, and placed it at the gate of the house of the Lord on the outside.
8 O rei mandou fazer um cofre, que foi colocado perto do portão do Templo, do lado de fora.
9 And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the Lord the contribution fixed by Moses the servant of God upon Israel in the wilderness.
9 Então anunciaram pela cidade de Jerusalém e pelo país inteiro que o povo devia trazer a Deus, o Senhor , o imposto que Moisés, servo de Deus, havia mandado cobrar quando eles estavam no deserto.
10 And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and they brought it in, and cast it into the chest, until it was full.
10 Os chefes e todo o povo vieram alegres e puseram o dinheiro no cofre, até que ficou cheio.
11 Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the kings office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, then came the kings scribe and the highpriests officer and emptied the chest, and took it up, and brought it back to its place. Thus did they day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
11 Todos os dias os levitas levavam o cofre aos funcionários do rei, e, quando estes viam que estava cheio, o secretário do rei e o representante do Grande Sacerdote vinham, tiravam o dinheiro e levavam o cofre de volta para o Templo. Assim ajuntaram muito dinheiro.
12 And the king and Yehoyada gave it to those who overlooked the service of the house of the Lord, and these hired masons and carpenters to renew the house of the Lord, and also to the workers in iron and copper to repair the house of the Lord.
12 O rei e Joiada entregavam o dinheiro aos homens que estavam encarregados do trabalho do Templo, e estes contratavam pedreiros, carpinteiros e pessoas que trabalhavam com ferro e bronze, para fazer os consertos no Templo.
13 So the workmen wrought, and the work was restored through their means, and they replaced the house of God in its former state, and strengthened it.
13 Todos puseram mãos à obra e trabalharam tão bem, que o Templo acabou ficando como era quando tinha sido construído; ficou até mais forte do que antes.
14 And when they had completed it, they brought before the king and Yehoyada the rest of the money, and they made of it vessels for the house of the Lord, the vessels of the service and for the sacrificing, and the spoons, and other vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burntofferings in the house of the Lord continually all the days of Yehoyada.
14 Quando terminaram o trabalho, levaram ao rei e a Joiada o ouro e a prata que haviam sobrado. Eles usaram esse ouro e essa prata para fazer os objetos usados para o culto no Templo e para os sacrifícios e também para fazer vasilhas e outros objetos. Enquanto Joiada viveu, os sacrifícios foram oferecidos no Templo todos os dias.
15 And Yehoyada became old, and was full of days, and died: he was old one hundred and thirty years when he died.
15 Joiada viveu muito, até ficar bem velho. Ele morreu aos cento e trinta anos de idade
16 And they buried him in the city of David among the kings; because he had done a good thing in Israel, and toward God, and his house.
16 e foi sepultado junto com os reis na Cidade de Davi , por causa do bom serviço que havia prestado ao povo de Israel, a Deus e ao Templo.
17 But after the death of Yehoyada came the princes of Judah, and bowed themselves down to the king. Then did the king hearken unto them.
17 Depois da morte de Joiada, as altas autoridades de Judá foram falar com o rei e se ajoelharam em frente dele em sinal de respeito. E o rei concordou com o que eles disseram.
18 And they forsook the house of the Lord the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols: and there came wrath over Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness.
18 Aí o povo parou de ir ao Templo para adorar o Senhor , o Deus dos seus antepassados, e começou a adorar os postes da deusa Aserá e outros ídolos. Por causa desse pecado, o Senhor Deus ficou irado com o povo de Judá e com os moradores de Jerusalém.
19 And he sent prophets among them, to bring them back again unto the Lord; and they gave them warning; but they did not give ear.
19 Mas o Senhor mandou profetas a fim de avisarem o povo que voltasse para ele; porém o povo não deu atenção a eles.
20 And the spirit of God endued Zechariah the son of Yehoyada the priest, and he stood up above the people, and he said unto them, Thus hath said the true God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the Lord? ye cannot prosper so; because as ye have forsaken the Lord, he hath also forsaken you.
20 Aí o Espírito de Deus veio sobre Zacarias, filho do sacerdote Joiada. Então ele ficou de pé num lugar alto e disse ao povo: — Esta é a mensagem de Deus: “Por que desobedecem aos mandamentos de Deus, o
21 And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the command of the king in the court of the house of the Lord.
21 Algumas pessoas fizeram planos para matar Zacarias; e, obedecendo à ordem do rei, o mataram a pedradas no pátio do Templo.
22 And king Joash did not remember the kindness which Yehoyada his father had shown to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The Lord will see this, and require my blood.
22 O rei nem pensou no serviço fiel que lhe havia prestado Joiada, o pai de Zacarias; matou o filho dele. Zacarias, ao morrer, disse: — Que o
23 And it came to pass at the expiration of the year, that the army of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and all their spoil they sent off unto the king of Damascus.
23 Durante a primavera daquele ano, o exército sírio invadiu a terra de Judá e atacou a cidade de Jerusalém; mataram as altas autoridades do país e mandaram para o rei da Síria, em Damasco, tudo o que levaram do país.
24 Indeed with a small company of men did the army of Syria come; but the Lord delivered into their hand an army exceedingly numerous; because they had forsaken the Lord the God of their fathers. And on Joash they executed punishment.
24 O exército sírio era pequeno, mas o Senhor Deus deixou que eles derrotassem o exército dos judeus, que era muito maior, pois os judeus haviam abandonado o Senhor , o Deus dos seus antepassados. Assim o rei Joás recebeu o castigo que merecia.
25 And when these were gone away from himfor they left him suffering with great diseaseshis own servants conspired against him because of the blood of the sons of Yehoyada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.
25 Joás havia sido gravemente ferido. Depois que os sírios foram embora, dois oficiais de Joás fizeram uma revolta contra ele e o mataram enquanto ainda estava de cama. Eles fizeram isso para se vingar da morte do filho do sacerdote Joiada. Joás foi sepultado na Cidade de Davi , mas não nos túmulos dos reis.
26 And these are those that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimath the Ammonitess, and Yehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.
26 Dois homens planejaram a morte dele: Zabade, filho de Simeate, uma mulher da terra de Amom, e Jeozabate, filho de Sinrite, uma mulher da terra de Moabe.
27 Now concerning his sons, and the great prophecy concerning him, and the founding of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amazyahu his son became king in his stead.
27 No Comentário sobre o Livro dos Reis , estão escritas as histórias dos filhos de Joás, as muitas profecias que foram feitas contra ele e a história da reconstrução do Templo. Amazias, filho de Joás, ficou no lugar dele como rei.
