1 In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam became Abiyah king over Judah.
1 No décimo oitavo ano do reinado de Jeroboão em Israel, Abias começou a reinar em Judá.
2 Three years he reigned in Jerusalem: and his mothers name was Michayahu the daughter of Uriel of Gibah. And there was war between Abiyah and Jeroboam.
2 Reinou por três anos em Jerusalém. Sua mãe se chamava Maaca e era filha de Uriel, de Gibeá. Houve guerra entre Abias e Jeroboão.
3 And Abiyah joined the battle with an army of valiant men of war, even of four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valor.
3 Judá, sob o comando do rei Abias, foi à batalha com quatrocentos mil de seus melhores soldados, e Jeroboão reuniu oitocentos mil dos melhores soldados de Israel.
4 And Abiyah stood up above mount Zemarayim, which is in the mountain of Ephraim, and said, Hear me, O Jeroboam, and all Israel;
4 Quando o exército de Judá chegou à região montanhosa de Efraim, Abias ficou em pé no alto do monte Zemaraim e gritou para Jeroboão e todo o Israel: “Ouçam-me!
5 Ought ye not to know that the Lord the God of Israel hath given the kingdom over Israel to David for eternity, yea, to him and to his sons by a covenant of salts?
5 Não sabem que o S enhor , o Deus de Israel, fez uma aliança permanente com Davi e deu o trono de Israel a seus descendentes para sempre?
6 But there rose up Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, and rebelled against his lord.
6 Mesmo assim, Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, servo de Salomão, filho de Davi, rebelou-se contra seu senhor.
7 And there were gathered unto him idle men, worthless persons, and put themselves in violent resistance against Rehoboam the son of Solomon: while Rehoboam was young and tender hearted, and could not sustain himself before them.
7 Homens desocupados e perversos se juntaram a ele e conspiraram contra Roboão, filho de Salomão, quando ele era jovem, inexperiente e incapaz de enfrentá-los.
8 And now ye think to sustain yourselves before the kingdom of the Lord in the hand of the sons of David; and ye are a great multitude; and with you are golden calves, which Jeroboam hath made for you as gods.
8 “Vocês acreditam, de fato, que podem resistir ao reino do S enhor , que ele entregou aos descendentes de Davi? Seu exército é enorme, e vocês têm os bezerros de ouro que Jeroboão fez para serem seus deuses.
9 Have ye not cast out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made yourselves priests like the people of the various lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams can become a priest to things that are no gods?
9 No entanto, expulsaram os sacerdotes do S enhor , descendentes de Arão, e os levitas e nomearam seus próprios sacerdotes, como fazem as outras nações. Qualquer um que se apresente com um novilho ou sete carneiros para ser consagrado pode se tornar sacerdote de seus falsos deuses!
10 But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, who minister unto the Lord, are the sons of Aaron; and the Levites are at their appointed work;
10 “Quanto a nós, o S enhor é nosso Deus, e não o abandonamos. Somente os descendentes de Arão servem ao S enhor como sacerdotes, e somente os levitas os ajudam em seu trabalho.
11 And they burn unto the Lord burntofferings every morning and every evening and incense of sweet spices; and the rows of the showbread do they place upon the pure table; and there is the candlestick of gold with its lamps, to light the same every evening; for we keep the charge of the Lord our God, while ye have truly forsaken him.
11 Eles apresentam holocaustos e incenso aromático ao S enhor todas as manhãs e todas as tardes. Colocam os pães da presença sobre a mesa sagrada e todas as tardes acendem o candelabro de ouro. Nós seguimos as instruções do S enhor , nosso Deus, mas vocês o abandonaram.
12 And, behold, with us at our head, is the true God, with his priests with trumpets for blowing the alarm, to sound an alarm against you. O children of Israel, do not fight against the Lord the God of your fathers; for ye will not prosper.
12 Podem ver, portanto, que Deus está conosco. Ele é nosso líder. Os sacerdotes dele tocam as trombetas e nos conduzem à batalha contra vocês. Ó israelitas, não lutem contra o S enhor , o Deus de seus antepassados, pois não serão bem-sucedidos!”.
13 But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come around behind them: so they themselves were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.
13 Enquanto isso, Jeroboão tinha mandado uma parte de seu exército dar a volta por trás do exército de Judá, formando uma emboscada.
14 And when Judah turned round, behold, they had the battle before and behind: and they cried unto the Lord, and the priests blew with the trumpets.
14 Quando os homens de Judá perceberam que eram atacados pela frente e por trás, clamaram ao S enhor . Então os sacerdotes tocaram as trombetas,
15 And then gave the men of Judah a shout: and it came to pass, as the men of Judah shouted, that God struck down Jeroboam and all Israel before Abiyah and Judah.
15 e os homens de Judá gritaram. Ao som desse brado de guerra, Deus derrotou Jeroboão e dispersou todo o Israel diante de Abias e do exército de Judá.
16 And the children of Israel fled from before Judah, and God gave them up into their hand.
16 Os israelitas fugiram dos soldados de Judá, e Deus os entregou em suas mãos.
17 And Abiyah and his people smote them with a great defeat, and there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
17 Abias e seu exército lhes infligiram grandes perdas; quinhentos mil dos melhores soldados de Israel foram mortos naquele dia.
18 Thus were the children of Israel humbled at that time: and the children of Judah became powerful, because they relied upon the Lord the God of their fathers.
18 Nessa ocasião, portanto, o exército de Judá derrotou os israelitas, pois confiou no S enhor , o Deus de seus antepassados.
19 And Abiyah made pursuit after Jeroboam, and captured cities from him, Bethel with its villages, and Jeshanah with its villages, and Ephrayin with its villages.
19 Abias e seu exército perseguiram os soldados de Jeroboão e conquistaram as cidades de Betel, Jesana e Efrom, e os povoados ao redor.
20 And Jeroboam did not recover strength again in the days of Abiyahu: and the Lord struck him, and he died.
20 Jeroboão, rei de Israel, não recuperou seu poder enquanto Abias viveu; por fim, o S enhor feriu Jeroboão, e ele morreu.
21 But Abiyahu became strong, and he took himself fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
21 Enquanto isso, Abias de Judá se tornou cada vez mais poderoso. Casou-se com 14 mulheres e teve 22 filhos e 16 filhas.
22 And the rest of the acts of Abiyah, and his ways, and his speeches, are written in the writing of the prophet Iddo.
22 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Abias, incluindo suas palavras e seus atos, estão registrados no Comentário do Profeta Ido .
