1 And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their camps together for warfare, to fight with Israel; and Achish said unto David, Thou must know that thou shalt go out with me into the camp, thou and thy men.
1 Naqueles dias, os filisteus reuniram suas tropas para outra guerra contra Israel. O rei Aquis disse a Davi: “Saiba que você e seus homens sairão à batalha comigo”.
2 And David said to Achish, By reason of this wilt thou thyself ascertain what thy servant will do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee the guard of my head for all times.
2 “Está bem”, disse Davi. “Agora o senhor verá por si mesmo o que somos capazes de fazer.” Então Aquis disse a Davi: “Colocarei você como meu guarda pessoal enquanto eu viver”.
3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city; and Saul had removed those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.
3 Nesse tempo, Samuel já havia morrido, e todo o Israel tinha chorado sua morte. Estava sepultado em Ramá, sua cidade natal. Saul havia expulsado da nação todos os médiuns e todos os que consultam os espíritos dos mortos.
4 And the Philistines assembled themselves together, and came and encamped at Shunem: and Saul assembled together all Israel, and they encamped at Gilboa.
4 Os filisteus acamparam em Suném, e Saul reuniu todo o exército israelita e acampou em Gilboa.
5 And when Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.
5 Quando Saul viu o imenso exército dos filisteus, entrou em pânico.
6 And Saul asked counsel of the Lord; but the Lord answered him not, either by means of dreams, or by means of the Urim, or by means of the prophets.
6 Consultou o S enhor a respeito do que deveria fazer, mas o S enhor não lhe respondeu, nem por sonhos, nem pelo Urim, nem por profetas.
7 Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek out for me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her and inquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.
7 Então Saul disse a seus conselheiros: “Procurem uma mulher que seja médium, para que eu pergunte a ela o que fazer”. Seus conselheiros responderam: “Há uma médium em En-Dor”.
8 And Saul disguised himself, and put on other garments, and he went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, Divine, I pray thee, unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring up for me the one whom I shall say unto thee.
8 Então Saul se disfarçou com roupas comuns e, acompanhado de dois de seus homens, foi à noite à casa da mulher. “Preciso falar com um homem que está morto”, disse ele à mulher. “Você pode invocar o espírito dele para mim?”
9 And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou well knowest that which Saul hath done, that he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land; wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?
9 “Quer que me matem?”, respondeu ela. “Você sabe que Saul expulsou todos os médiuns e todos os que consultam os espíritos dos mortos. Por que prepara uma armadilha contra a minha vida?”
10 And Saul swore to her by the Lord, saying, As the Lord liveth, there shall no guilt attach to thee for this thing.
10 Saul, porém, jurou em nome do S enhor e prometeu: “Tão certo como vive o S enhor , nenhum mal lhe acontecerá por isso”.
11 Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up for thee? And he said, Samuel thou must bring up for me.
11 Por fim, a mulher disse: “De quem é o espírito que devo invocar?”. “De Samuel”, respondeu Saul.
12 And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman said to Saul thus, Why hast thou deceived me? since thou art Saul.
12 Quando a mulher viu Samuel, gritou: “Você me enganou! Você é Saul!”.
13 And the king said unto her, Be not afraid; however, what hast thou seen? And the woman said unto Saul, A divine being have I seen ascending out of the earth.
13 “Não tenha medo”, disse o rei. “O que você vê?” “Vejo um deus
14 And he said unto her, What is his form? And she said, An old man is coming up; and he is wrapt in a mantle. And so Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and prostrated himself.
14 “Qual é a aparência dele?”, perguntou Saul. “É um ancião envolto num manto”, respondeu ela. Saul entendeu que era Samuel e se curvou diante dele com o rosto em terra.
15 And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am greatly distressed, and the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and hath not answered me any more, either by the agency of the prophets, or by means of dreams; wherefore I have called thee, to make known unto me what I shall do.
15 Então Samuel perguntou a Saul: “Por que me perturba, chamando-me de volta?”. “Porque estou muito angustiado”, respondeu Saul. “Os filisteus estão em guerra contra mim! Deus me abandonou e não me responde por meio de profetas nem por sonhos. Por isso chamei o senhor, para que me diga o que fazer.”
16 Then said Samuel, And why wilt thou ask me, seeing the Lord is departed from thee, and is become thy enemy?
16 Samuel, porém, disse: “Por que me consultar, se o S enhor o abandonou e se tornou seu inimigo?
17 And the Lord hath done for himself as he hath spoken through my agency; and the Lord hath rent the government out of thy hand, and hath given it to thy associate, to David;
17 O S enhor fez exatamente conforme tinha dito por meu intermédio. Rasgou de suas mãos o reino e o entregou a outro, Davi.
18 As thou didst not obey the voice of the Lord, and didst not execute his fierce wrath upon Amalek; therefore hath the Lord done this thing unto thee this day.
18 O S enhor lhe fez isso hoje porque você se recusou a executar a ira ardente dele contra os amalequitas.
19 And the Lord will deliver also Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: also the camp of Israel will the Lord deliver into the hand of the Philistines.
19 Além disso, o S enhor entregará você e o exército de Israel nas mãos dos filisteus e, amanhã, você e seus filhos estarão aqui comigo. O S enhor entregará o exército de Israel nas mãos dos filisteus”.
20 Then fell Saul hastily with his full length to the earth, and was greatly afraid, because of the words of Samuel: there was also no strength in him; for he had not eaten any food all that day, and all that night.
20 No mesmo instante, Saul caiu estendido no chão, paralisado de terror com as palavras de Samuel. Estava fraco de fome, pois não havia comido nada durante todo aquele dia e toda aquela noite.
21 And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was greatly terrified; and she said unto him, Behold, thy handmaid hath obeyed thy voice; and I put my life in my hand, and hearkened unto thy words which thou spokest unto me.
21 Quando a mulher viu quanto ele estava perturbado, disse: “Meu senhor, obedeci à sua ordem e arrisquei minha vida.
22 And now, hearken thou also, I pray thee, unto the voice of thy handmaid, and let me set before thee a morsel of bread, and eat; that thou mayest have strength when thou goest on the way.
22 Agora, faça o que digo e deixe que eu lhe dê alguma coisa para comer, a fim de que recupere as forças para a viagem de volta”.
23 But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants urged him much, as also the woman; and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.
23 Mas Saul se recusou a comer. Seus servos também insistiram para que ele se alimentasse, até que, por fim, ele concordou. Então ele se levantou do chão e foi sentar-se na cama.
24 And the woman had a fatted calf in the house; and she hastened, and slaughtered it, and took flour, and kneaded it, and baked unleavened bread thereof:
24 A mulher estava engordando um bezerro, de modo que saiu depressa e o matou. Pegou um punhado de farinha, preparou a massa e assou um pão sem fermento.
25 And she brought it near before Saul, and before his servants; and they ate. Then they rose up, and went away that night.
25 Trouxe a refeição para Saul e seus conselheiros, e eles comeram. Depois, saíram naquela mesma noite.
