1 And David fled from Nayoth near Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is my iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?
1 Então Davi fugiu da casa dos profetas, em Ramá, foi até o lugar onde Jônatas estava e lhe perguntou: — O que foi que eu fiz? Qual é a minha culpa? E qual é o meu pecado diante de seu pai, que procura tirar-me a vida?
2 And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father is not wont to do a great thing or a small thing, which he doth not inform me of; and why should my father conceal this thing from me? it is not so.
2 Jônatas respondeu: — Nada disso! Você não será morto. Meu pai não faz coisa nenhuma, nem grande nem pequena, sem primeiro me dizer. Por que, então, meu pai esconderia isso de mim? Não há nada disso.
3 But David swore again, and said, Thy father well knoweth that I have found grace in thy eyes; wherefore he said, Jonathan must not know this, lest he be grieved: nevertheless, as truly as the Lord liveth, and thy soul liveth, there was but one step between me and death.
3 Então Davi respondeu enfaticamente: — Seu pai sabe muito bem que encontrei favor diante de você. Assim, ele resolveu que você não deve ficar sabendo disso, para não se entristecer. Mas tão certo como vive o
4 Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul sayeth will I do for thee.
4 Jônatas disse a Davi: — Farei tudo o que você quiser que eu faça.
5 And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow is the newmoon, and I should as usual sit with the king to eat; but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field until the third evening.
5 Davi disse a Jônatas: — Amanhã é a Festa da Lua Nova, em que sem falta deveria assentar-me com o rei para comer. Mas deixe que eu vá embora, para me esconder no campo, até a tarde do terceiro dia.
6 If thy father at all miss me, then do thou say, David asked earnestly leave of me that he might run to Bethlechem his city; for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.
6 Se o seu pai notar a minha ausência, diga o seguinte: “Davi me pediu muito que o deixasse ir a toda pressa a Belém, sua cidade, porque lá será oferecido o sacrifício anual para toda a família.”
7 If he should say thus, It is well: then shall thy servant have peace; but if it be at all displeasing to him, then know that the evil is determined on by him.
7 Se ele disser: “Está bem”, então este seu servo terá paz. Porém, se ficar com muita raiva, saiba que ele já decidiu me fazer mal.
8 And do thou deal kindly with thy servant; for into a covenant of the Lord hast thou brought thy servant with thee; but if there be in me any iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldst thou bring me to thy father?
8 Use, pois, de misericórdia para com este seu servo, porque você me fez entrar em aliança no Senhor com você. Mas, se sou culpado, mate-me você mesmo. Por que você me levaria ao seu pai?
9 And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee; for if I should know for certain that evil were determined on by my father to come upon thee, would I not tell it thee?
9 Então Jônatas disse: — Nada disso! Se eu de algum modo soubesse que o meu pai está determinado a trazer esse mal sobre você, acha que eu não avisaria você?
10 Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell it me? or what, if thy father answer thee roughly?
10 Então Davi perguntou: — Quem irá me avisar, se, por acaso, o seu pai lhe responder asperamente?
11 And Jonathan said unto David, Come, let us go out into the field. And they went out, both of them, into the field.
11 Jônatas respondeu: — Venha, vamos ao campo. E eles foram.
12 And Jonathan said unto David, May the God of Israel punish me if, when I have sounded my father about this time tomorrow, or of the third day, and, behold, if he be good toward David, I do not then send unto thee, and inform thee of it.
12 Jônatas disse a Davi: — O
13 May the Lord do so to Jonathan and continue so yet farther, that, if it please my father to do thee evil, I will inform thee of it, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace; and may the Lord be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
13 Mas, se meu pai quiser fazer mal a você, que o Senhor faça com Jônatas o que bem quiser, se eu não o avisar disso e não o deixar ir embora, para que você siga em paz. E que o Senhor esteja com você, como tem estado com o meu pai.
14 And wilt thou not, should I be yet alive, show me the kindness of the Lord, that I may not die?
14 E, se eu, então, ainda viver, use para comigo da bondade do Senhor , para que eu não morra.
15 But, surely, thou wilt not withdraw thy kindness from my house for ever, not even when the Lord cutteth off the enemies of David, every one, from off the face of the earth.
15 Nem tampouco jamais afaste da minha casa a sua bondade; nem ainda quando o Senhor eliminar da face da terra todos os inimigos de Davi.
16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, May the Lord require it at the hand of Davids enemies.
16 Assim, Jônatas fez aliança com a casa de Davi, dizendo: — Que o
17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, by his love for him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
17 Jônatas fez com que Davi jurasse de novo, pelo amor que lhe tinha, porque Jônatas o amava com todo o amor da sua alma.
18 Then Jonathan said to David, Tomorrow is the newmoon: and thou wilt be missed, because thy seat will be left empty.
18 Jônatas disse a Davi: — Amanhã é a Festa da Lua Nova. Eles vão perguntar por você, porque o seu lugar estará vazio.
19 And when thou hast stayed till the third day, then shalt thou go down greatly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself on the workday; and thou shalt remain by the stone Ezel.
19 No terceiro dia, vá depressa ao lugar onde você se escondeu no dia do combinado e fique junto à pedra de Ezel.
20 And I will myself shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I were shooting at a mark.
20 Atirarei três flechas para aquele lado, como quem atira ao alvo.
21 And, behold, I will send the lad, saying, Go, find the arrows; if I should now say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee: then take him and come; for there is peace to thee, and it is nothing; as the Lord liveth.
21 Eis que mandarei o moço e lhe direi: “Vá, procure as flechas.” Se eu disser ao moço: “Olhe, as flechas estão para cá de você; traga-as”, então venha, Davi, porque, tão certo como vive o Senhor , você terá paz, e nada há que temer.
22 But if thus I should say unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee: then go thy way, for the Lord hath sent thee off.
22 Porém, se eu disser ao moço: “Olhe, as flechas estão mais para lá de você”, vá embora, porque o Senhor manda que você vá.
23 And touching the matter of which we have spoken, thou and I, behold, the Lord is between me and thee for ever.
23 Quanto àquilo de que eu e você falamos, eis que o Senhor é nossa testemunha para sempre.
24 So David hid himself in the field: and when the newmoon was come, the king set himself down to the repast to eat.
24 Então Davi se escondeu no campo. E, sendo a Festa da Lua Nova, o rei se pôs à mesa para comer.
25 And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, upon the seat by the wall: and when Jonathan arose, Abner seated himself by the side of Saul, and Davids place was left empty.
25 O rei sentou-se na sua cadeira, segundo o costume, no lugar junto à parede. Jônatas ficou na frente dele, e Abner sentou-se ao lado de Saul. Mas o lugar de Davi estava desocupado.
26 Nevertheless Saul spoke not the least on that day; for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; because he hath not yet purified himself.
26 Porém, naquele dia, Saul não disse nada, pois pensava: “Deve ter acontecido alguma coisa com ele. Ele está cerimonialmente impuro. Certamente está impuro.”
27 And it came to pass on the morrow, the second day of the newmoon, that Davids place was left empty; and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore is the son of Jesse not come, both yesterday and today, to the repast?
27 No dia seguinte, o segundo dia da Festa da Lua Nova, o lugar de Davi continuava desocupado. Então Saul perguntou a Jônatas, seu filho: — Por que o filho de Jessé não veio comer, nem ontem nem hoje?
28 And Jonathan answered Saul, David asked earnestly leave of me to go as far as Bethlechem.
28 Jônatas respondeu: — Davi me pediu, encarecidamente, que o deixasse ir a Belém.
29 And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for we have a familysacrifice in the city, and my brother himself hath commanded it to me; and now, if I have found favor in thy eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, that I may see my brothers: therefore is he not come unto the kings table.
29 Ele me disse: “Peço que você me deixe ir, porque a nossa família tem um sacrifício na cidade, e um de meus irmãos insiste comigo para que eu vá. Portanto, se encontrei favor aos seus olhos, peço que me deixe partir, para que eu veja os meus irmãos.” Por isso, não veio à mesa do rei.
30 And the anger of Saul was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of perverse rebelliousness! do I not know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thy own shame, and to the shame of thy mothers nakedness?
30 Então Saul ficou irado com Jônatas e lhe disse: — Seu filho de mulher vadia e rebelde! Você acha que eu não sei que você elegeu o filho de Jessé, para vergonha sua e para vergonha de sua mãe?
31 For all the days that the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou wilt not have any permanence with thy kingdom: therefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die.
31 Pois, enquanto o filho de Jessé viver sobre a terra, nem você estará seguro, nem seguro estará o seu reino. Por isso, mande buscá-lo, agora, porque deve morrer.
32 And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be put to death? what hath he done?
32 Então Jônatas perguntou a Saul, seu pai: — Por que ele deve morrer? O que foi que ele fez?
33 And Saul cast his spear at him to smite him: and Jonathan understood that it was determined on by his father to put David to death.
33 Então Saul atirou a sua lança contra Jônatas para matá-lo. Com isso Jônatas entendeu que, de fato, seu pai já havia decidido matar Davi.
34 And Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no food on the second day of the newmoon; for he was grieved for David; because his father had made him feel ashamed.
34 Por isso, Jônatas, com muita raiva, se levantou da mesa e, neste segundo dia da Festa da Lua Nova, não comeu pão, pois ficou muito sentido por causa de Davi, a quem seu pai havia insultado.
35 And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field to the place appointed with David, and a little lad was with him.
35 Na manhã seguinte, Jônatas saiu ao campo, no tempo combinado com Davi, e levou consigo um rapazinho.
36 And he said unto his lad, Run, do find out the arrows which I shoot: and the lad ran, and he shot the arrow so as to pass beyond him.
36 Então disse ao seu rapaz: — Corra e busque as flechas que eu atirar. O rapaz correu, e ele atirou uma flecha, que fez passar além do rapaz.
37 And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan called after the lad, and said, Behold, the arrow is beyond thee!
37 Quando o rapaz chegou ao lugar da flecha que Jônatas havia atirado, Jônatas gritou atrás dele: — A flecha não está mais para lá de você?
38 And Jonathan called after the lad, Make haste, speed, stay not: and Jonathans lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.
38 Jônatas gritou mais uma vez: — Vamos! Depressa! Não fique aí parado! O rapaz de Jônatas apanhou as flechas e voltou ao seu senhor.
39 But the lad knew not the least: only Jonathan and David knew the matter.
39 O rapaz não entendeu coisa alguma, pois só Jônatas e Davi sabiam deste combinado.
40 And Jonathan gave his weapons unto the lad who was with him, and said unto him, Go, carry them to the city.
40 Então Jônatas deu as suas armas ao rapaz que o acompanhava e lhe disse: — Vá, leve-as para a cidade.
41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose from the south side of the stone, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.
41 Quando o rapaz foi embora, Davi se levantou do lado do monte de pedras e se prostrou com o rosto em terra três vezes. E beijaram um ao outro e choraram juntos; Davi, porém, muito mais.
42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace: what we have sworn, both of us, in the name of the Lord, saying, The Lord shall be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever, shall be kept.
42 Então Jônatas disse a Davi: — Vá em paz, porque ambos juramos em nome do
43 — ausente —
43 Então Davi se levantou e foi embora. E Jônatas voltou para a cidade.
