1 And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
1 Cinco dias depois, desceu o sumo sacerdote Ananias com alguns anciãos e Tertulo, advogado. Compareceram eles ante o governador para acusar Paulo.
2 And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by you we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by your provision,
2 Este foi citado e Tertulo começou a acusá-lo nestes termos: Graças a ti nós gozamos de paz, e pela tua providência se têm corrigido muitos abusos em nossa nação.
3 We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
3 Nós o reconhecemos em todo o tempo e lugar, excelentíssimo Félix, com toda a gratidão.
4 Nevertheless, that I be not further tedious unto you, I pray you that you would hear us in your kindness a few words.
4 Mas, para não te enfadar por mais tempo, rogo-te que, na tua bondade, nos ouças por um momento.
5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
5 Encontramos este homem, uma peste, um indivíduo que fomenta discórdia entre os judeus no mundo inteiro. É um dos líderes da seita dos nazarenos.
6 Who also has gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
6 Tentou mesmo profanar o templo. Nós, porém, o prendemos.
7 But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
7 {Quisemos julgá-lo segundo a nossa lei, mas, sobrevindo o tribuno Lísias, no-lo tirou das mãos com grande violência, ordenando que os seus acusadores comparecessem diante de ti.}
8 Commanding his accusers to come unto you: by examining of whom you yourself may take knowledge of all these things, of which we accuse him.
8 Tu mesmo, interrogando-o, poderás verificar todas essas coisas de que nós o acusamos.
9 And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.
9 Os judeus apoiaram o advogado, confirmando que as coisas de fato eram assim.
10 Then Paul, after the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Since I know that you have been for many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:
10 Depois disso, a um sinal do governador, Paulo respondeu: Sabendo eu que há muitos anos és governador desta nação, é com confiança que farei a minha defesa.
11 Because you may understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem to worship.
11 Podes verificar que não há mais de doze dias que eu subi a Jerusalém para fazer minhas devoções.
12 And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
12 Não me acharam disputando com alguém, nem amotinando o povo, quer no templo, quer nas sinagogas, ou na cidade.
13 Neither can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.
13 Nem tampouco te podem provar as coisas de que agora me acusam.
14 But this I confess unto you, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
14 Reconheço na tua presença que, segundo a doutrina que eles chamam de sectária, sirvo a Deus de nossos pais, crendo em todas as coisas que estão escritas na lei e nos profetas.
15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
15 Tenho esperança em Deus, como também eles esperam, de que há de haver a ressurreição dos justos e dos pecadores.
16 And in this do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offense toward God, and toward men.
16 Por isso, procuro ter sempre sem mácula a minha consciência diante de Deus e dos homens.
17 Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
17 Depois de muitos anos {de ausência} vim trazer à minha nação esmolas e oferendas {rituais}.
18 Then certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
18 Nesta ocasião, acharam-me no templo, depois de uma purificação, sem aglomeração e sem tumulto.
19 Who ought to have been here before you, and object, if they had anything against me.
19 Viram-me ali uns judeus vindos da Ásia, e estes é que deviam comparecer diante de ti e me acusar, se tivessem alguma queixa contra mim.
20 Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,
20 Ou digam estes aqui que crime terão achado em mim, quando eu compareci diante do Grande Conselho.
21 Except it be for this one thing, that I cried standing among them, Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
21 A não ser esta única frase que proferi em voz alta no meio deles: Por causa da ressurreição dos mortos é que sou julgado hoje diante de vós!
22 And when Felix heard these things, having more complete knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the rest of your matter.
22 Félix conhecia bem esta religião e, adiando a questão, disse: Quando descer o tribuno Lísias, então examinarei a fundo a vossa questão.
23 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintances to minister or come unto him.
23 Ordenou ao centurião que o guardasse e o tratasse com brandura, sem proibir que os seus o servissem.
24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
24 Passados que foram alguns dias, veio Félix com sua mulher Drusila, que era judia. Chamou Paulo e ouvia-o falar da fé em Jesus Cristo.
25 And as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go your way for this time; when I have a convenient time, I will call for you.
25 Mas, como Paulo lhe falasse sobre a justiça, a castidade e o juízo futuro, Félix, todo atemorizado, disse-lhe: Por ora, podes retirar-te. Na primeira ocasião, chamar-te-ei.
26 He hoped also that money should have been given him by Paul, that he might release him: therefore he sent for him often, and conferred with him.
26 Esperava outrossim, ao mesmo tempo, que Paulo lhe desse algum dinheiro, pelo que o mandava chamar com freqüência e se entretinha com ele.
27 But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' position: and Felix, willing to show the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.
27 Decorridos dois anos, Félix teve por sucessor a Pórcio Festo. Querendo, porém, agradar aos judeus, deixou Paulo na prisão.
