1 Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
1 Jorão, filho de Acabe, começou a reinar sobre Israel, em Samaria, no décimo oitavo ano do reinado de Josafá, rei de Judá; e reinou doze anos.
2 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.
2 Fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor , porém não como o seu pai, nem como a sua mãe, porque tirou a coluna de Baal, que o seu pai havia feito.
3 Nevertheless he clung unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin; he departed not from them.
3 No entanto, aderiu aos pecados de Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, que havia levado Israel a pecar, e não se afastou deles.
4 And Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder, and rendered unto the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs, and a hundred thousand rams, with the wool.
4 Mesa, rei dos moabitas, era criador de gado e pagava o seu tributo ao rei de Israel com cem mil cordeiros e a lã de cem mil carneiros.
5 But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
5 Mas depois da morte de Acabe, o rei dos moabitas se revoltou contra o rei de Israel.
6 And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.
6 Por isso, naquele instante Jorão saiu de Samaria e reuniu todo o exército de Israel.
7 And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has rebelled against me: will you go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as you are, my people as your people, and my horses as your horses.
7 Mandou dizer a Josafá, rei de Judá: — O rei de Moabe se revoltou contra mim. Você irá comigo à guerra contra Moabe? Josafá respondeu: — Irei. Sou como você é, o meu povo é como o seu povo, e os meus cavalos são como os seus cavalos.
8 And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.
8 E Josafá perguntou: — Por que caminho iremos? Jorão respondeu: — Pelo caminho do deserto de Edom.
9 So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they made a circuit of seven days’ journey: and there was no water for the army, and for the cattle that followed them.
9 Partiram o rei de Israel, o rei de Judá e o rei de Edom. Após sete dias de marcha, não havia água para o exército e para os animais que os seguiam.
10 And the king of Israel said, Alas! the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!
10 Então o rei de Israel disse: — Ah! O
11 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.
11 Josafá perguntou: — Não há, aqui, algum profeta do Um dos servos do rei de Israel respondeu: — Aqui está Eliseu, filho de Safate, que era servo de Elias.
12 And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
12 Josafá disse: — Está com ele a palavra do Então o rei de Israel, Josafá e o rei de Edom foram falar com Eliseu.
13 And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? get you to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
13 Mas Eliseu disse ao rei de Israel: — Que tenho eu a ver com você? Vá falar com os profetas de seu pai e os profetas de sua mãe. Porém o rei de Israel lhe disse: — Não, porque o
14 And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.
14 Eliseu disse: — Tão certo como vive o
15 But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.
15 Agora me tragam um músico. Enquanto o músico tocava, o poder de Deus veio sobre Eliseu.
16 And he said, Thus says the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.
16 Este disse: — Assim diz o
17 For thus says the LORD, You shall not see wind, neither shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that you may drink, both you, and your cattle, and your animals.
17 Porque assim diz o Senhor : Vocês não sentirão vento, nem verão chuva, mas este vale se encherá de água; e vocês beberão, bem como o seu gado e os seus animais.”
18 And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.
18 Mas isto ainda é pouco aos olhos do Senhor . Ele também entregará Moabe nas suas mãos.
19 And you shall smite every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall cut down every good tree, and stop up all wells of water, and ruin every good piece of land with stones.
19 Vocês conquistarão todas as cidades fortificadas e todas as cidades principais. Cortarão todas as árvores frutíferas, taparão todas as fontes de água e danificarão com pedras todos os campos de cultivo.
20 And it came to pass in the morning, when the grain offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
20 E aconteceu que, no dia seguinte, na hora do sacrifício da manhã, eis que água vinha descendo dos lados de Edom; e a terra se encheu de água.
21 And when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armor, and older, and stood in the border.
21 Quando todos os moabitas ouviram que os reis tinham vindo para lutar contra eles, convocaram todos os que estavam aptos para a guerra, desde o mais novo até o mais velho, e tomaram posição nas fronteiras.
22 And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:
22 Os moabitas se levantaram de madrugada e, quando o sol raiou sobre as águas, viram que as águas diante deles estavam vermelhas como sangue.
23 And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.
23 E disseram: — Isto é sangue! Certamente os reis se destruíram e se mataram um ao outro! Agora, moabitas, é hora de pegar os despojos!
24 And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck down the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.
24 Mas, quando eles chegaram ao arraial de Israel, os israelitas se levantaram e atacaram os moabitas, os quais fugiram deles. Os israelitas entraram na terra e também aí mataram os moabitas.
25 And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and covered it; and they stopped up all the wells of water, and cut down all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they its stones; the slingers surrounded it, and conquered it.
25 Arrasaram as cidades, e cada um lançou uma pedra em todos os campos de cultivo, e os entulharam. Taparam todas as fontes de águas e cortaram todas as árvores frutíferas. Só Quir-Haresete ficou com suas muralhas; mas os que atiravam com fundas a cercaram e atacaram.
26 And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too fierce for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.
26 Quando o rei de Moabe percebeu que estava perdendo a batalha, tomou consigo setecentos homens armados com espada para abrir caminho e chegar até o rei de Edom, porém não puderam.
27 Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there came great wrath against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
27 Então pegou o seu filho primogênito, que havia de reinar em seu lugar, e o ofereceu em holocausto sobre a muralha. Houve grande ira contra Israel e, por isso, eles se retiraram dali e voltaram para a sua própria terra.
