1 In those days [there was] no king in Israel, and in those days the tribe of the Dan sought a possession for themselves to dwell in, for unto that day [their lot] had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel for an inheritance.
1 Naqueles dias, não havia rei em Israel, e a tribo dos danitas estava procurando um território para morar, porque, até aquele dia, não tinha recebido herança entre as tribos de Israel.
2 And the sons of Dan sent five men from their family of their borders, men of valour, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to search it, and they said unto them, Go, search the land. These came unto Mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, and they lodged there.
2 Então os filhos de Dã enviaram cinco homens dentre todas as famílias da sua tribo, homens valentes, de Zorá e de Estaol, para espiar e explorar a terra. E lhes disseram: — Vão e explorem a terra. Chegaram à região montanhosa de Efraim, até a casa de Mica, e ali pernoitaram.
3 When they [were] near the house of Micah, they recognized [the accent of] the voice of the young man the Levite, and they turned in there and said unto him, Who brought thee here? And what doest thou in this [place]? And what hast thou here?
3 Quando se aproximaram da casa de Mica, reconheceram a voz do jovem levita. Chegaram perto dele e lhe perguntaram: — Quem trouxe você para cá? O que você está fazendo aqui? E o que prende você a este lugar?
4 And he said unto them, Thus and thus Micah has done with me and has hired me that I may be his priest.
4 Ele respondeu: — Assim e assim Mica fez comigo: ele me contratou, e eu me tornei o sacerdote dele.
5 And they said unto him, Ask counsel now, therefore, of God, that we may know whether he shall prosper our journey which we do.
5 E eles lhe disseram: — Então, por favor, consulte a Deus, para que saibamos se o caminho que seguimos irá prosperar.
6 And the priest replied unto them, Go in peace. Your journey which ye do [is] before the LORD.
6 O sacerdote respondeu: — Vão em paz. O caminho de vocês está sob as vistas do
7 Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw that the people that dwelt there were secure, idle, and confident after the manner of the Zidonians; and there was no one in that land that might hinder them in any way from possessing that [land]; furthermore they [were] far from the Zidonians and had no business with anyone.
7 Os cinco homens partiram e chegaram a Laís. Viram que o povo daquele lugar vivia em segurança, segundo o costume dos sidônios, em paz e sem desconfiar de nada. Nenhuma autoridade havia que, por qualquer coisa, os oprimisse. Moravam longe dos sidônios e não tinham contato com outros povos.
8 And they retuned unto their brethren in Zorah and Eshtaol, and their brethren said unto them, What [say] ye?
8 Então os cinco homens voltaram a seus irmãos em Zorá e Estaol. E esses irmãos lhes perguntaram: — E então, o que nos dizem?
9 And they said, Arise, let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good; and [are] ye to remain still? Do not be slothful to go [and] to enter to possess the land.
9 Eles responderam: — Preparem-se e vamos atacá-los. Porque examinamos a terra, e eis que é muito boa. Vão ficar aí parados? Vão depressa e ocupem aquela terra.
10 When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure and to a large land, for God has given it into your hands, a place where [there is] no want of any thing that [is] in the earth.
10 Quando chegarem lá, vão encontrar um povo que não desconfia de nada. A terra é ampla, e Deus a está entregando nas mãos de vocês. É um lugar em que não falta nada do que existe na terra.
11 And there went from there of the family of Dan, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men armed with weapons of war.
11 Então partiram dali, do meio da tribo dos danitas, de Zorá e de Estaol, seiscentos homens armados com as suas armas de guerra.
12 And they went up and pitched camp in Kirjathjearim in Judah; therefore, they called that place the camp of Dan unto this day; it is behind Kirjathjearim.
12 Subiram e acamparam em Quiriate-Jearim, em Judá. Por isso aquele lugar é chamado de Maané-Dã, até o dia de hoje. Fica a oeste de Quiriate-Jearim.
13 And they passed from there unto Mount Ephraim and came unto the house of Micah.
13 Dali foram para a região montanhosa de Efraim e chegaram à casa de Mica.
14 Then the five men that had gone to spy out the land of Laish said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod and teraphim and a graven image and a molten image? Now, therefore, consider what ye have to do.
14 Os cinco homens que foram espiar a terra de Laís disseram aos seus irmãos: — Vocês sabiam que numa daquelas casas há uma estola sacerdotal, alguns ídolos do lar, uma imagem de escultura e uma de fundição? Decidam, pois, o que vão fazer.
15 And they turned in there and came to the house of the young man, the Levite, [even] unto the house of Micah, and greeted him.
15 Então foram para lá, e chegaram à casa do jovem levita, que era a casa de Mica, e o saudaram.
16 And the six hundred men armed with their weapons of war, who [were] of the sons of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.
16 Os seiscentos homens da tribo de Dã, armados com as suas armas de guerra, ficaram à entrada do portão.
17 And the five men that went to spy out the land went up [and] went in there [and] took the graven image and the ephod, and the teraphim and the molten image while the priest stood in the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men [that were] armed with weapons of war.
17 Porém os cinco homens que tinham ido espiar a terra entraram na casa e apanharam a imagem de escultura, a estola sacerdotal, os ídolos do lar e a imagem de fundição, enquanto o sacerdote estava em pé à entrada do portão com os seiscentos homens que estavam armados com as armas de guerra.
18 So they entered into Micah's house and took the graven image the ephod and the teraphim and the molten image. Then the priest said unto them, What are you doing?
18 Quando eles entraram na casa de Mica e apanharam a imagem de escultura, a estola sacerdotal, os ídolos do lar e a imagem de fundição, o sacerdote perguntou: — O que é que vocês estão fazendo?
19 And they said unto him, Silence, lay thy hand upon thy mouth and go with us to be our father and priest; [is it] better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family of Israel?
19 Eles responderam: — Fique calado. Não diga nada a ninguém. Venha conosco e seja o nosso conselheiro e sacerdote. Ou você acha que é melhor ser sacerdote na casa de um só homem do que ser sacerdote de uma tribo e de uma família em Israel?
20 And the priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod and the teraphim and the graven image and went in the midst of the people.
20 O sacerdote ficou contente, pegou a estola sacerdotal, os ídolos do lar e a imagem de escultura e entrou no meio do povo.
21 So they turned and departed and put the little ones and the cattle and the baggage before them.
21 Eles deram meia-volta e partiram, não sem antes colocar diante de si as crianças, o gado e os seus bens.
22 [And] when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that [were] in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together and overtook the sons of Dan.
22 Quando eles já estavam longe da casa de Mica, os vizinhos deste se reuniram e foram atrás dos filhos de Dã.
23 And they cried unto the sons of Dan. And these turned their faces and said unto Micah, What ails thee that thou dost come with such a company?
23 Eles gritaram para os filhos de Dã, que, voltando-se, perguntaram a Mica: — O que é que você quer? Por que você convocou todo esse povo?
24 And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made and the priest, and ye are gone away; and what is left to me? And why do ye say unto me, What ails thee?
24 Mica respondeu: — Vocês pegaram os deuses que eu fiz e também o meu sacerdote e foram embora. O que sobrou para mim? E vocês ainda me perguntam: “O que é que você quer?”
25 And the sons of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us lest peradventure angry fellows run upon thee and thou lose thy life with the lives of thy household.
25 Porém os filhos de Dã lhe disseram: — Seria melhor você ficar calado, porque, se não, alguns dos nossos homens poderiam ficar irritados e acabariam atacando você. Nesse caso, perderiam a vida você e os da sua casa.
26 And the sons of Dan went their way, and when Micah saw that they [were] too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.
26 Assim, os filhos de Dã seguiram o seu caminho. E Mica, vendo que eram mais fortes do que ele, deu meia-volta e foi para casa.
27 And they took [the things] which Micah had made together with the priest which he had and came unto Laish unto a people [that were] at quiet and secure, and they smote them with the edge of the sword and burnt the city with fire.
27 Os homens de Dã levaram as coisas que Mica havia feito e também o sacerdote dele, e foram a Laís, a um povo que vivia em paz e sem desconfiar de nada. Mataram os moradores a fio de espada e queimaram a cidade.
28 And [there was] no deliverer because it [was] far from Zidon, and they had no business with anyone; and it was in the valley that [lies] by Bethrehob. Then they rebuilt the city and dwelt therein.
28 Não houve ninguém que os livrasse, porque moravam longe de Sidom e não tinham contato com outros povos. A cidade ficava no vale junto a Bete-Reobe. Os filhos de Dã reedificaram a cidade e passaram a morar nela.
29 And they called the name of the city Dan after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel; however, the name of the city [was] Laish at the first.
29 E lhe chamaram Dã, segundo o nome de Dã, seu pai, que era filho de Israel. Porém no passado o nome dessa cidade era Laís.
30 And the sons of Dan set up the graven image; and Jonathan, the son of Gershon, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.
30 Os filhos de Dã levantaram para si aquela imagem de escultura, e Jônatas, filho de Gérson e neto de Moisés, ele e seus filhos foram sacerdotes da tribo dos danitas até o dia do cativeiro do povo.
31 And they set up Micah's graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.:
31 Assim, pois, a imagem de escultura feita por Mica ficou entre eles durante todo o tempo em que a Casa de Deus esteve em Siló.
