1 And David fled from Naioth in Ramah and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? What [is] my iniquity or what [is] my sin before thy father that he seeks my life?
1 Davi fugiu de Naiote, em Ramá, e se encontrou com Jônatas. “O que eu fiz?”, disse Davi. “Qual é meu crime? Que pecado cometi contra seu pai para que ele esteja tão decidido a me matar?”
2 And he said unto him, No, in no wise; thou shalt not die. Behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will show it me, and why should my father hide this thing from me? It [shall] not [be] so.
2 “Isso não vai acontecer!”, respondeu Jônatas. “Você não será morto. Ele sempre me conta tudo que pretende fazer, até mesmo as coisas de pouca importância. Sei que meu pai não esconderia de mim algo dessa natureza. Não é assim!”
3 And David swore moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knows that I have found grace in thine eyes, and he [saith in himself], Let Jonathan not know this lest he be grieved; but truly [as] the LORD lives and [as] thy soul lives, [there is] but a step between me and death.
3 Então Davi fez um juramento diante de Jônatas: “Seu pai, sabendo muito bem de nossa amizade, disse a si mesmo: ‘Não contarei a Jônatas. Ele ficaria magoado’. Mas, tão certo como vive o S enhor e como você mesmo vive, eu estou a apenas um passo da morte!”.
4 Then Jonathan said unto David, Whatever thy soul saith, I will do [it] for thee.
4 Jônatas perguntou: “O que posso fazer para ajudá-lo?”.
5 And David replied unto Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow [is] the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at food, but thou shalt let me go and hide myself in the field until the evening of the third day.
5 Davi respondeu: “Amanhã celebraremos a festa da lua nova. Sempre me sentei com o rei para comer nessa ocasião, mas amanhã me esconderei no campo e ficarei ali até o entardecer do terceiro dia.
6 If thy father at all misses me, then say, David earnestly asked [leave] of me that he might run to Bethlehem, his city, for all those of his lineage have an anniversary sacrifice.
6 Se seu pai perguntar onde estou, diga a ele: ‘Davi insistiu que eu o deixasse ir para casa, em Belém, participar do sacrifício que toda a família dele oferece a cada ano’.
7 If he should say, [It is] well; thy servant shall have peace; but if he is very wroth, [then] be sure that the evil is determined in him.
7 Se ele disser: ‘Está bem’, então você saberá que não corro perigo. Mas, se ele se enfurecer, você saberá que ele está decidido a me fazer mal.
8 Therefore, thou shalt deal in mercy with thy servant, for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee; notwithstanding, if there is iniquity in me, slay me thyself, for why should thou bring me to thy father?
8 Mostre-me sua lealdade como amigo, pois assumimos um compromisso solene diante do S enhor . Se, por acaso, você acha que cometi alguma ofensa contra seu pai, mate-me você mesmo, aqui e agora! Não é necessário me entregar a seu pai”.
9 And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee, for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would I not be obliged to show it to thee?
9 “Nunca!”, exclamou Jônatas. “Você sabe que, se eu tivesse qualquer suspeita de que meu pai planeja matá-lo, avisaria você no mesmo instante.”
10 Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? Or what [if] thy father answers thee roughly?
10 Então Davi perguntou: “Como saberei se seu pai ficou irado?”.
11 And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And both of them went out into the field.
11 Jônatas respondeu: “Venha ao campo comigo”, e os dois foram juntos para lá.
12 Then Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I shall have asked my father tomorrow at this time or after tomorrow and, behold, [if there is] good toward David and I then do not send unto thee and show it to thee,
12 Então Jônatas disse a Davi: “Prometo diante do S enhor , o Deus de Israel, que amanhã ou, no máximo, depois de amanhã, a esta hora, conversarei com meu pai e avisarei você logo em seguida do que ele pensa a seu respeito. Se ele falar a seu respeito de modo favorável, informarei você.
13 the LORD do so and much more to Jonathan. But if it pleases my father [to do] thee evil, then I will show it to thee and send thee away that thou may go in peace; and the LORD be with thee as he has been with my father.
13 Mas, se ele estiver irado e quiser matá-lo, que o S enhor me castigue severamente se eu não avisar você, para que possa escapar em segurança. Que o S enhor esteja com você como esteve com meu pai.
14 And if I live, thou shalt show me the mercy of the LORD, but if I am dead,
14 E que você me trate com o amor leal do S enhor enquanto eu viver. Mas, se eu morrer,
15 thou shalt not cut off thy mercy from my house for ever. When the LORD has cut off one by one the enemies of David from the face of the earth, remove [even] Jonathan from thy house [if I fail thee] and require it at the hand of David's enemies.
15 trate minha família com esse amor leal, mesmo quando o S enhor eliminar da face da terra todos os seus inimigos”.
16 So Jonathan made [a covenant] with the house of David.
16 Então Jônatas assumiu um compromisso solene com Davi e sua descendência e disse: “Que o S enhor destrua todos os inimigos de Davi!”.
17 And Jonathan swore unto David again because he loved him, for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
17 E Jônatas fez Davi reafirmar seu juramento de amizade, pois Jônatas o amava como a si mesmo.
18 Then Jonathan said to David, Tomorrow [is] the new moon, and thou shalt be missed because thy seat will be empty.
18 Então Jônatas disse: “Amanhã celebraremos a festa da lua nova. Darão por sua falta quando virem que seu lugar à mesa está vazio.
19 And [when] thou hast stayed three days, [then] thou shalt go down quickly and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself on the day of the work and shalt remain by the stone Ezel;
19 Depois de amanhã, ao entardecer, vá ao lugar onde você se escondeu antes e espere ali, junto à pedra de Ezel.
20 and I will shoot three arrows on the side [thereof] as though I shot at a mark.
20 Eu sairei e atirarei três flechas para o lado da pedra, como se atirasse num alvo.
21 And, behold, I will send a lad, [saying], Go, find the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows [are] on this side of thee; take them, then come thou, for [there is] peace unto thee and no hurt, [as] the LORD lives.
21 Então mandarei um ajudante trazer de volta as flechas. Se você me ouvir dizer a ele: ‘As flechas estão deste lado’, saberá, tão certo como vive o S enhor , que tudo está bem e que não há perigo algum.
22 But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows [are] beyond thee, then go away, for the LORD has sent thee away.
22 Mas, se eu disser a ele: ‘Vá mais para frente; as flechas estão adiante’, significará que você deve partir de imediato, pois o S enhor o manda ir embora.
23 And [as touching] the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, let the LORD [be] between thee and me for ever.
23 E que o S enhor nos ajude a preservar para sempre o forte laço de amizade que existe entre nós”.
24 So David hid himself in the field, and when the new moon was come, the king sat down to eat bread.
24 Então Davi se escondeu no campo e, quando começou a festa da lua nova, o rei sentou-se para comer.
25 And the king sat upon his seat as at other times, [even] upon a seat by the wall; and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul's side, and David's place was empty.
25 Ocupou seu lugar de costume, encostado à parede, com Jônatas sentado diante dele e Abner ao seu lado. O lugar de Davi, porém, ficou vazio.
26 Nevertheless, Saul said nothing that day, for he thought, Something has befallen him, he is not clean; surely he [is] not clean.
26 Saul não disse nada sobre isso naquele dia, pois pensou: “Deve ter acontecido algo que deixou Davi cerimonialmente impuro”.
27 And it came to pass on the next day, [which was] the second [day] of the new moon, that David's place was empty, and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Why did not the son of Jesse come to food, neither yesterday nor today?
27 Mas, quando o lugar de Davi também ficou vazio no dia seguinte, Saul perguntou a Jônatas: “Por que o filho de Jessé não veio para a refeição nem ontem nem hoje?”.
28 And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked [leave] of me [to go] to Bethlehem.
28 Jônatas respondeu: “Davi me pediu, com insistência, para ir a Belém.
29 And he said, Let me go, I pray thee, for those of our lineage have a sacrifice in the city, and my brother, he has commanded me [to be there], and now, if I have found grace in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he has not come unto the king's table.
29 Disse: ‘Por favor, deixe-me ir, pois nossa família oferecerá um sacrifício na cidade. Meu irmão exigiu que eu estivesse presente. Portanto, peço que me deixe ir ver meus irmãos’. Por isso ele não está aqui, à mesa do rei”.
30 Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious [woman], do I not know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion and unto the confusion of thy mother's shame?
30 Saul se enfureceu com Jônatas e disse: “Seu traidor, filho de uma prostituta! Pensa que não sei que você quer que ele seja rei, para sua própria vergonha e de sua mãe?
31 For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the land, thou shalt not be established nor thy kingdom. Therefore, now send and bring him unto me, for he shall surely die.
31 Enquanto esse filho de Jessé viver, você jamais será rei. Agora vá buscá-lo para que eu o mate!”.
32 And Jonathan answered Saul his father and said unto him, Why shall he be slain? What has he done?
32 “Por que ele deve morrer?”, perguntou Jônatas a seu pai. “O que ele fez?”
33 And Saul cast a spear at him to smite him whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay David.
33 Então Saul atirou sua lança contra Jônatas, com a intenção de matá-lo. Com isso, Jônatas viu que seu pai estava mesmo decidido a matar Davi.
34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger and ate no food the second day of the new moon, for he was grieved for David [and] because his father had done him shame.
34 Enfurecido, Jônatas levantou-se da mesa e, durante o segundo dia da festa, recusou-se a comer, frustrado pelo modo como seu pai havia desonrado Davi publicamente.
35 And it came to pass in the morning that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.
35 Na manhã seguinte, como combinado, Jônatas foi ao campo e levou consigo um ajudante para apanhar as flechas.
36 And he said unto his lad, Run and find the arrows which I shoot. [And] as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.
36 Disse ao ajudante: “Comece a correr, para que possa encontrar as flechas quando eu as atirar”. O ajudante correu, e Jônatas atirou uma flecha para além dele.
37 And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said, [Is] not the arrow beyond thee?
37 Quando o ajudante estava quase chegando ao lugar onde a flecha havia caído, Jônatas gritou: “A flecha está mais à frente!
38 And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows and came to his master.
38 Rápido! Não fique aí parado!”. Então o ajudante apanhou a flecha e correu de volta para seu senhor.
39 But the lad did not understand anything; only Jonathan and David understood the matter.
39 O ajudante não suspeitava de nada; apenas Jônatas e Davi entenderam o sinal.
40 And Jonathan gave his weapons unto his lad and said unto him, Go, carry [them] to the city.
40 Então Jônatas entregou o arco e as flechas ao ajudante e ordenou que os levasse de volta à cidade.
41 [And] as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of [a place] toward the Negev and fell on his face to the ground and bowed himself three times, and they kissed one another and wept one with another, although David exceeded.
41 Assim que o ajudante foi embora, Davi saiu de seu esconderijo no lado sul da pedra de Ezel. Davi se curvou diante de Jônatas três vezes, com o rosto em terra. E, quando se beijaram e se despediram, ambos choravam, especialmente Davi.
42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed, and Jonathan entered into the city.:
42 Por fim, Jônatas disse a Davi: “Vá em paz, pois juramos lealdade um ao outro em nome do S enhor . Que o S enhor nos ajude a preservar para sempre o forte laço de amizade entre nós e entre nossos descendentes”. Então Davi partiu, e Jônatas voltou à cidade.
