Neemias 6

1 Now it came to pass, when it was reported to Sanballat and Tobiah, and to Geshem the Arabian, and unto the rest of our enemies, that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein--though even unto that time I had not set up the doors in the gates--
1 Ora, sucedeu que, quando Sambalate, e Tobias, e Gesém, o árabe, e o restante dos nossos inimigos, ouviram que eu havia edificado a muralha, e que não havia fenda (embora naquele tempo eu não tivesse posto as portas nos portões);
2 that Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying: 'Come, let us meet together in one of the villages in the plain of Ono.' But they thought to do me mischief.
2 que Sambalate e Gesém mandaram dizer-me: Vem, reunamo-nos em algumas das aldeias da planície de Ono. No entanto, eles pensavam em me fazer mal.
3 And I sent messengers unto them, saying: 'I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down; why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?'
3 E enviei-lhes mensageiros, dizendo: Estou fazendo uma grande obra, de modo que não posso descer; por que cessaria a obra, enquanto eu a deixo e desço até vós?
4 And they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.
4 Todavia, desta forma enviaram a mim quatro vezes; e da mesma maneira lhes respondi.
5 Then sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;
5 Então Sambalate, da mesma maneira, pela quinta vez, me enviou o seu servo com uma carta aberta na sua mão;
6 wherein was written: 'It is reported among the nations, and Geshem saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel; for which cause thou buildest the wall; and thou wouldest be their king, even according to these words.
6 Na qual estava escrito: É relatado entre os pagãos, e Gesém o disse, que tu e os judeus pensam em se rebelar; por esta causa tu edificas a muralha, para que possas ser o seu rei, segundo estas palavras.
7 And thou hast also appointed prophets to proclaim of thee at Jerusalem, saying: There is a king in Judah; and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.'
7 E tu também indicaste profetas para pregarem de ti em Jerusalém, dizendo: Há um rei em Judá; e agora isto será relatado ao rei, segundo estas palavras. Vem, portanto, agora, e consultemos juntamente.
8 Then I sent unto him, saying: 'There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.'
8 Então mandei dizer-lhe: De tudo o que dizes coisa nenhuma sucedeu; mas tu as inventas do teu próprio coração.
9 For they all would have us afraid, saying: 'Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done.' But now, strengthen Thou my hands.
9 Porque todos eles nos fizeram temerosos, dizendo: As suas mãos serão enfraquecidas da obra, para que ela não seja feita. Agora, portanto, ó Deus, fortalece as minhas mãos.
10 And as for me, I went unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabel, who was shut up; and he said: 'Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple; for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.'
10 Depois eu fui à casa de Semaías, o filho de Delaías, o filho de Meetabel, que estava recluso; e ele disse: Reunamo-nos na casa de Deus, dentro do templo, e fechemos as portas do templo; porque eles virão te matar; sim, à noite virão matar-te.
11 And I said: 'Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being such as I, could go into the temple and live? I will not go in.'
11 E eu disse: Deveria um homem como eu fugir? E quem há que, sendo como eu sou entraria no templo para salvar a sua vida? Eu não entrarei.
12 And I discerned, and, lo, God had not sent him; for he pronounced this prophecy against me, whereas Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
12 E eis que eu percebi que Deus não o havia mandado; mas que ele pronunciava esta profecia contra mim; porquanto Tobias e Sambalate lhe haviam contratado.
13 For this cause was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might taunt me.
13 Para isso ele foi contratado, para que eu ficasse temeroso, e assim fizesse, e pecasse, e para que pudessem ter assunto para um mau relato, para que eles pudessem me afrontar.
14 Remember, O my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and also the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have me put in fear.
14 Lembra-te, meu Deus, de Tobias e de Sambalate, conforme estas suas obras, e da profetisa Noadias, e do restante dos profetas, que quiseram me atemorizar.
15 So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.
15 Assim, foi terminada a muralha no vigésimo quinto dia do mês de elul, em cinquenta e dois dias.
16 And it came to pass, when all our enemies heard thereof, that all the nations that were about us feared, and were much cast down in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.
16 E sucedeu que, tendo ouvido todos os nossos inimigos, e todos os pagãos que estavam junto a nós, ficaram mui desanimados aos seus próprios olhos; porque perceberam que esta obra fora feita pelo nosso Deus.
17 Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters unto Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came unto them.
17 Além disso, naqueles dias os nobres de Judá enviaram muitas cartas a Tobias, e as cartas de Tobias vinham para eles.
18 For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah the son of Arah; and his son Jehohanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah to wife.
18 Porquanto havia muitos em Judá aliados a ele, porque ele era o genro de Secanias, o filho Ará; e o seu filho Joanã havia tomado a filha de Mesulão, o filho de Berequias.
19 Also they spoke of his good deeds before me, and reported my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.
19 Eles também relataram as suas boas obras diante de mim, e proferiram as minhas palavras a ele. E Tobias enviava cartas para me atemorizar.
