1 And the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed to Zaphon; and they said unto Jephthah: 'Wherefore didst thou pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thy house upon thee with fire.'
1 E os homens de Efraim se reuniram, e seguiram em direção norte, e disseram a Jefté: Por que atravessaste para lutar contra os filhos de Amom e não nos chamaste para ir contigo? Nós queimaremos a tua casa sobre ti com fogo.
2 And Jephthah said unto them: 'I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye saved me not out of their hand.
2 E Jefté lhes disse: Eu e o meu povo estávamos em grande conflito com os filhos de Amom; e quando eu vos chamei, vós não me livrastes das mãos deles.
3 And when I saw that ye saved me not, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand; wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?'
3 E quando vi que não me livraste, eu coloquei a minha vida nas minhas mãos, e atravessei contra os filhos de Amom, e o SENHOR os entregou na minha mão; pelo que, então, viestes até mim neste dia, para lutardes contra mim?
4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said: 'Ye are fugitives of Ephraim, ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh.'
4 Então Jefté reuniu todos os homens de Gileade, e lutou contra Efraim; e os homens de Gileade feriram Efraim, porque diziam: Vós, gileaditas, sois fugitivos de Efraim no meio dos efraimitas, e no meio dos manassitas.
5 And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites; and it was so, that when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said: 'Let me go over,' the men of Gilead said unto him: 'Art thou an Ephraimite?' If he said: 'Nay';
5 E os gileaditas tomaram as passagens do Jordão antes dos efraimitas; e assim foi que, quando aqueles efraimitas que haviam escapado diziam: Deixa-me atravessar; os homens de Gileade lhes diziam: És tu efraimita? E, se ele dissesse: Não;
6 then said they unto him: 'Say now Shibboleth'; and he said 'Sibboleth'; for he could not frame to pronounce it right; then they laid hold on him, and slew him at the fords of the Jordan; and there fell at that time of Ephraim forty and two thousand.
6 Disseram-lhe então: Diz, agora "chibolete", e ele disse "sibolete"; pois ele não conseguia formular uma pronúncia correta. Então eles o tomaram e o mataram nas passagens do Jordão; e caíram ali, naquele hora, dos eframitas, quarenta e dois mil.
7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
7 E Jefté julgou Israel por seis anos. Então morreu Jefté, o gileadita, e foi sepultado em uma das cidades de Gileade.
8 And after him Ibzan of Beth-lehem judged Israel.
8 E depois dele, Ibsã de Belém julgou Israel.
9 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
9 E ele tinha trinta filhos, e trinta filhas, as quais ele enviou para o exterior, e trouxe trinta filhas do exterior para os seus filhos. E ele julgou Israel por sete anos.
10 and Ibzan died, and was buried at Beth-lehem.
10 Então morreu Ibsã, e foi sepultado em Belém.
11 And after him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
11 E depois dele Elom, um zebulonita, julgou Israel; e julgou Israel por dez anos.
12 And Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
12 E Elom, o zebulonita, morreu e foi sepultado em Aijalom, na região de Zebulom.
13 And after him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.
13 E depois dele Abdom, o filho de Hilel, o piratonita, julgou Israel.
14 And he had forty sons and thirty sons' sons, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts; and he judged Israel eight years.
14 E ele tinha quarenta filhos e trinta netos, que montavam setenta jumentos potros; e julgou Israel por oito anos.
15 And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekites.
15 E Abdom, o filho de Hilel, o piratonita, morreu, e foi sepultado em Piratom, na terra de Efraim, no monte dos Amalequitas.
