1 The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.
1 Esta é a mensagem do Senhor que veio ao profeta Jeremias acerca das nações:
2 Of Egypt: concerning the army of Pharaoh-neco king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah.
2 Acerca do Egito: Esta é a mensagem contra o exército do rei do Egito, o faraó Neco, que foi derrotado em Carquemis, junto ao rio Eufrates, por Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, no quarto ano do reinado de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá:
3 Make ready buckler and shield, and draw near to battle.
3 "Preparem seus escudos, os grandes e os pequenos, e marchem para a batalha!
4 Harness the horses, and mount, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, put on the coats of mail.
4 Selem os cavalos e montem! Tomem posição e coloquem o capacete! Passem óleo na ponta de suas lanças e vistam a armadura!
5 Wherefore do I see them dismayed and turned backward? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and they are fled apace, and look not back; terror is on every side, saith the LORD.
5 Mas o que vejo? Eles estão apavorados, estão se retirando, seus guerreiros estão derrotados. Fogem às pressas, sem olhar para trás; há terror por todos os lados", declara o Senhor.
6 The swift cannot flee away, nor the mighty man escape; in the north by the river Euphrates have they stumbled and fallen.
6 "O ágil não consegue fugir, nem o forte escapar. No norte, junto ao rio Eufrates, eles tropeçam e caem.
7 Who is this like the Nile that riseth up, like the rivers whose waters toss themselves?
7 "Quem é aquele que se levanta como o Nilo, como rios de águas agitadas?
8 Egypt is like the Nile that riseth up, and like the rivers whose waters toss themselves; and he saith: 'I will rise up, I will cover the earth, I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.'
8 O Egito se levanta como o Nilo, como rios de águas agitadas. Ele diz: ‘Eu me levantarei e cobrirei a terra; destruirei as cidades e os seus habitantes’.
9 Prance, ye horses, and rush madly, ye chariots; and let the mighty men go forth: Cush and Put, that handle the shield, and the Ludim, that handle and bend the bow.
9 Ao ataque, cavalos! Avancem, carros de guerra! Marchem em frente, guerreiros! Homens da Etiópia e da Líbia, que levam escudos; homens da Lídia, que empunham o arco!
10 For the Lord GOD of hosts shall have on that day a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Him of His adversaries; and the sword shall devour and be satiate, and shall be made drunk with their blood; for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.
10 Mas aquele dia pertence ao Soberano, ao Senhor dos Exércitos. Será um dia de vingança, para vingar-se dos seus adversários. A espada devorará até saciar-se, até satisfazer sua sede de sangue. Porque o Soberano, o Senhor dos Exércitos, fará um banquete na terra do norte, junto ao rio Eufrates.
11 Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt; in vain dost thou use many medicines; there is no cure for thee.
11 "Suba a Gileade em busca de bálsamo, ó virgem, filha do Egito! Você multiplica remédios em vão; não há cura para você.
12 The nations have heard of thy shame, and the earth is full of thy cry; for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, they are fallen both of them together.
12 As nações ouviram da tua humilhação; os seus gritos encheram a terra, quando um guerreiro tropeçou noutro guerreiro e ambos caíram. "
13 The word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt.
13 Esta é a mensagem que o Senhor falou ao profeta Jeremias acerca da vinda de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia para atacar o Egito:
14 Declare ye in Egypt, and announce in Migdol, and announce in Noph and in Tahpanhes; say ye: 'Stand forth, and prepare thee, for the sword hath devoured round about thee.'
14 "Anunciem isto no Egito e proclamem-no em Migdol; proclamem-no também em Mênfis e em Tafnes: ‘Assumam posição! Preparem-se! Porque a espada devora aqueles que estão ao seu redor’.
15 Why is thy strong one overthrown? He stood not, because the LORD did thrust him down.
15 Por que o deus Ápis fugiu? O seu touro não resistiu, porque o Senhor o derrubou.
16 He made many to stumble; yea, they fell one upon another, and said: 'Arise, and let us return to our own people, and to the land of our birth, from the oppressing sword.'
16 Tropeçam e caem, caem uns sobre os outros. Eles dizem: ‘Levantem-se. Vamos voltar para nosso próprio povo e para nossa terra natal, para longe da espada do opressor.
17 They cried there: 'Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath let the appointed time pass by.'
17 O faraó, rei do Egito, é barulho e nada mais! Ele perdeu a sua oportunidade’.
18 As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, surely like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.
18 "Juro pela minha vida", declara o Rei, cujo nome é o Senhor dos Exércitos, "ele virá como o Tabor entre os montes, como o Carmelo junto ao mar.
19 O thou daughter that dwellest in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity; for Noph shall become a desolation, and shall be laid waste, without inhabitant.
19 Arrumem a bagagem para o exílio, vocês que vivem no Egito, pois Mênfis será arrasada, ficará desolada e desabitada.
20 Egypt is a very fair heifer; but the gadfly out of the north is come, it is come.
20 "O Egito é uma linda novilha, mas do norte a ataca uma mutuca.
21 Also her mercenaries in the midst of her are like calves of the stall, for they also are turned back, they are fled away together, they did not stand; for the day of their calamity is come upon them, the time of their visitation.
21 Os mercenários em suas fileiras são como bezerros gordos. Eles também darão meia volta e juntos fugirão; não defenderão suas posições, pois o dia da derrota deles está chegando, a hora de serem castigados.
22 The sound thereof shall go like the serpent's; for they march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.
22 O Egito silvará como uma serpente em fuga à medida que o inimigo avança com grande força. Virão sobre ele com machados, como os homens que derrubam árvores.
23 They cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the locusts, and are innumerable.
23 Eles derrubarão sua floresta", declara o Senhor, "por mais densa que seja. São mais que os gafanhotos; são incontáveis!
24 The daughter of Egypt is put to shame; she is delivered into the hand of the people of the north.
24 A cidade do Egito será envergonhada, será entregue nas mãos do povo do norte".
25 The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith: Behold, I will punish Amon of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with her gods, and her kings; even Pharaoh, and them that trust in him;
25 O Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel, diz: "Castigarei Amom, deus de Tebas, o faraó, o Egito, seus deuses e seus reis, e também os que confiam no faraó.
26 and I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants; and afterwards it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the LORD.
26 Eu os entregarei nas mãos daqueles que desejam tirar-lhes a vida; nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e de seus oficiais. Mais tarde, porém, o Egito será habitado como em épocas passadas", declara o Senhor.
27 But fear not thou, O Jacob My servant, neither be dismayed, O Israel; for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall again be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
27 "Quanto a você, não tema, meu servo Jacó! Não fique assustado, ó Israel! Eu o salvarei de um lugar distante, e os seus descendentes da terra do seu exílio. Jacó voltará e ficará em paz e em segurança; ninguém o inquietará.
28 Fear not thou, O Jacob My servant, saith the LORD, for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee, but I will not make a full end of thee; and I will correct thee in measure, but will not utterly destroy thee.
28 Não tema, meu servo Jacó! Eu estou com você", declara o Senhor. "Destruirei completamente todas as nações entre as quais eu o dispersei; mas a você, não destruirei completamente. Eu o disciplinarei, como você merece; não serei severo demais. "
