1 THE WORD of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
1 Esta é a mensagem que o Senhor Deus deu a Joel, filho de Petuel.
2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
2 Prestem atenção, velhos! Escute, povo de Judá! Já aconteceu alguma coisa tão terrível como esta, em nossos dias ou no tempo dos nossos antepassados?
3 Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
3 Digam aos seus filhos o que aconteceu; que eles contem aos seus filhos, e que estes falem sobre isso à
4 That which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.
4 Vieram nuvens e mais nuvens de gafanhotos, e comeram todas as plantações. O que os primeiros gafanhotos deixaram foi devorado pelos que vieram depois.
5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep, and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it is cut off from your mouth.
5 Acordem, beberrões! Acordem e chorem, vocês que gostam de vinho, pois as uvas foram destruídas, e não haverá vinho novo para beber.
6 For a people is come up upon my land, mighty, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the jaw- teeth of a lioness.
6 Vieram os gafanhotos, como um exército enorme e poderoso, e invadiram o meu país. Os seus dentes eram como os de um leão e afiados como dentes de uma leoa.
7 He hath laid my vine waste, and blasted my fig-tree; he hath made it clean bare, and cast it down, the branches thereof are made white.
7 Destruíram as nossas parreiras e acabaram com as nossas figueiras. Arrancaram as cascas das árvores, deixando os galhos completamente brancos.
8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
8 Chorem como uma jovem vestida de luto, que chora a morte do seu noivo.
9 The meal-offering and the drink-offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests mourn, even the LORD'S ministers.
9 Os sacerdotes, os servos de Deus, choram no Templo do porque não há mais ofertas de alimento nem de vinho.
10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
10 Os campos estão arrasados, a terra está de luto, pois os cereais foram destruídos, e as parreiras e as oliveiras secaram.
11 Be ashamed, O ye husbandmen, wail, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
11 Fiquem desesperados, vocês que trabalham nos campos; chorem, vocês que cuidam das parreiras; pois não há trigo nem Todas as colheitas foram destruídas.
12 The vine is withered, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm-tree also, and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered; for joy is withered away from the sons of men.
12 As parreiras e as figueiras secaram; estão secas as romãzeiras, as palmeiras, as macieiras e todas as outras árvores frutíferas. O povo todo está triste.
13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests, wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God; for the meal-offering and the drink-offering is withholden from the house of your God.
13 Sacerdotes, vocês que apresentam as ofertas no altar, vistam roupa feita de pano grosseiro e chorem. Servos do meu Deus, venham ao pátio do Templo e chorem a noite inteira. Pois na casa do nosso Deus não há mais ofertas de alimento nem de vinho.
14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD.
14 Convoquem uma reunião no Templo e anunciem um dia de jejum. Reúnam as autoridades e todo o povo de Judá no Templo do e orem a ele pedindo socorro.
15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
15 Ah! Está chegando o Dia do Senhor , em que o Todo-Poderoso vai trazer destruição. Será um dia de terror!
16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
16 Sem podermos fazer nada, vimos as nossas plantações serem destruídas. No Templo do nosso Deus não há alegria nem festa.
17 The grains shrivel under their hoes; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
17 Nos campos secos, as sementes não brotam; não há colheita de trigo, e os depósitos de cereais estão caindo aos pedaços.
18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
18 O gado está mugindo de fome, e os bois andam tontos de um lado para o outro porque não há pasto. As ovelhas também estão morrendo.
19 Unto Thee, O LORD, do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath set ablaze all the trees of the field.
19 Eu clamo a ti, ó Senhor ! As árvores e os pastos estão secos, como se um fogo tivesse queimado tudo.
20 Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto Thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
20 Até os animais selvagens pedem socorro a ti porque os rios secaram, e por toda parte a seca acabou com o capim.
