1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him: 'Thus saith the LORD: Set thy house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.'
1 Naquele tempo, Ezequias esteve doente, quase à morte. O profeta Isaías, filho de Amós, veio ter com ele e lhe disse: Eis o que disse o Senhor: põe em ordem a tua casa porque vais morrer, não te restabelecerás.
2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD,
2 Então Ezequias voltou-se para a parede e se pôs a orar ao Senhor;
3 and said: 'Remember now, O LORD, I beseech Thee, how I have walked before Thee in truth and with a whole heart, and have done that which is good in Thy sight.' And Hezekiah wept sore.
3 Senhor, disse ele, lembrai-vos de que tenho andado diante de vós com lealdade, de todo o coração, segundo a vossa vontade. E chorava abundantemente.
4 Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying:
4 Depois a palavra do Senhor foi dirigida a Isaías nestes termos:
5 'Go, and say to Hezekiah: Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father: I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears; behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
5 Vai dizer a Ezequias: eis o que diz o Senhor, o Deus de Davi, teu pai: Ouvi tua oração e vi tuas lágrimas, prolongarei tua vida por quinze anos,
6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city.
6 livrar-te-ei, a ti e a esta cidade, das mãos do rei da Assíria. Protegerei esta cidade.
7 And this shall be the sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that He hath spoken:
7 E eis o sinal, da parte do Senhor, para convencer-te de que cumprirá a promessa:
8 behold, I will cause the shadow of the dial, which is gone down on the sun-dial of Ahaz, to return backward ten degrees.' So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.
8 farei a sombra recuar os dez graus que o sol já lhe fez descer no relógio solar de Acaz. E o sol voltou dez graus para trás.
9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness.
9 Poema composto por Ezequias, rei de Judá, quando esteve doente e se restabeleceu.
10 I said: In the noontide of my days I shall go, even to the gates of the nether-world; I am deprived of the residue of my years.
10 Eu dizia: É necessário, pois, que eu me vá, no apogeu de minha vida. Serei encerrado por detrás das portas da habitação dos mortos, durante os anos que me restariam a viver.
11 I said: I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD in the land of the living; I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
11 Eu dizia: Não verei mais o Senhor na terra dos viventes. Não verei mais a luz entre os habitantes do mundo.
12 My habitation is plucked up and carried away from me as a shepherd's tent; I have rolled up like a weaver my life; He will cut me off from the thrum; from day even to night wilt Thou make an end of me.
12 Arrancam as estacas de meu abrigo, arrebatam-me como uma tenda de pastores. Como um tecelão, enrolam a tela de minha vida, depois cortam-lhe o laço. Dia e noite estou desamparado,
13 The more I make myself like unto a lion until morning, the more it breaketh all my bones; from day even to night wilt Thou make an end of me.
13 e grito até o amanhecer. Como um leão, quebram-me todos os ossos.
14 Like a swallow or a crane, so do I chatter, I do moan as a dove; mine eyes fail with looking upward. O LORD, I am oppressed, be Thou my surety.
14 Como a andorinha, dou gritos agudos e gemo como a pomba. Meus olhos se cansam de olhar para o alto. Senhor, estou em agonia, socorrei-me.
15 What shall I say? He hath both spoken unto me, and Himself hath done it; I shall go softly all my years for the bitterness of my soul.
15 Para que falar assim? Que dizer-lhe, uma vez que é ele mesmo quem assim o faz? O tempo que me resta eu o arrasto, vivendo em amargura.
16 O Lord, by these things men live, and altogether therein is the life of my spirit; wherefore recover Thou me, and make me to live.
16 Restituí-me a saúde, fazei-me reviver.
17 Behold, for my peace I had great bitterness; but Thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; for Thou hast cast all my sins behind Thy back.
17 Eis que meu sofrimento se mudou em conforto; vós preservastes minha vida do túmulo onde se apodrece, e lançastes para trás de vós todos os meus pecados.
18 For the nether-world cannot praise Thee, death cannot celebrate Thee; they that go down into the pit cannot hope for Thy truth.
18 Com efeito, não é a morada dos mortos que vos louvará, nem a morte que vos celebrará. O que desce à sepultura não espera mais em vossa bondade.
19 The living, the living, he shall praise Thee, as I do this day; the father to the children shall make known Thy truth.
19 Quem está vivo, somente quem está vivo pode louvar-vos, como eu o faço hoje. O pai dá a conhecer a seus filhos vossa fidelidade, diante da casa do Senhor.
20 The LORD is ready to save me; therefore we will sing songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.
20 Senhor, dignai-vos a nos salvar, e nós faremos soar a corda de nossos instrumentos todos os dias de nossa vida,
21 And Isaiah said: 'Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover.'
21 Isaías disse então: Que tragam um cataplasma de figos para aplicar sobre a úlcera, e Ezequias sarará.
22 And Hezekiah said. 'What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?'
22 Ezequias disse: Que sinal me garantirá que eu tornarei ao templo do Senhor?
