1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman: 'Yea, hath God said: Ye shall not eat of any tree of the garden?'
1 Ora, a serpente era mais sutil do que qualquer animal do campo que o SENHOR Deus havia feito. E ela disse à mulher: Sim, Deus tem dito: Não comereis de toda árvore do jardim?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent: 'Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;
2 E a mulher disse à serpente: Nós podemos comer do fruto das árvores do jardim;
3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said: Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.'
3 mas do fruto da árvore que está no meio do jardim, Deus disse: Não comereis dele, nem o tocareis, para que não morrais.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman: 'Ye shall not surely die;
4 E a serpente disse à mulher: Certamente não morrereis.
5 for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil.'
5 Porque Deus sabe que no dia em que dele comerdes, então vossos olhos serão abertos, e vós sereis como deuses, conhecendo o bem e o mal.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.
6 E quando a mulher viu que a árvore era boa para alimento, e que era agradável aos olhos, e uma árvore a ser desejada para fazer alguém sábio, ela tomou do seu fruto, e o comeu, e deu também a seu marido, e ele o comeu com ela.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves girdles.
7 E os olhos de ambos foram abertos, e eles souberam que estavam nus; e coseram folhas de figos, e fizeram para si aventais.
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden toward the cool of the day; and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
8 E eles ouviram a voz do SENHOR Deus andando pelo jardim no frescor do dia. E Adão e sua mulher se esconderam da presença do SENHOR Deus entre as árvores do jardim.
9 And the LORD God called unto the man, and said unto him: 'Where art thou?'
9 E o SENHOR Deus chamou a Adão, e lhe disse: Onde tu estás?
10 And he said: 'I heard Thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.'
10 E ele disse: Eu ouvi a tua voz no jardim e tive medo, porque eu estava nu, e me escondi.
11 And He said: 'Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?'
11 E ele disse: Quem te contou que estavas nu? Tu comeste da árvore da qual eu te ordenei que não comesses?
12 And the man said: 'The woman whom Thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.'
12 E o homem disse: A mulher que tu me deste para estar comigo, ela me deu da árvore e eu comi.
13 And the LORD God said unto the woman: 'What is this thou hast done?' And the woman said: 'The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.'
13 E o SENHOR Deus disse à mulher: O que é isto que tu fizeste? E a mulher disse: A serpente me enganou, e eu comi.
14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent: 'Because thou hast done this, cursed art thou from among all cattle, and from among all beasts of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.
14 E o SENHOR Deus disse à serpente: Porque tu fizeste isso, tu és amaldiçoada acima de todo gado, e acima de todo animal do campo; sobre o teu ventre tu andarás, e pó comerás todos os dias da tua vida.
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; they shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise their heel.'
15 E eu colocarei inimizade entre ti e a mulher, e entre a tua semente e a sua semente; ela ferirá a tua cabeça, e tu lhe ferirás o calcanhar.
16 Unto the woman He said: 'I will greatly multiply thy pain and thy travail; in pain thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.'
16 À mulher ele disse: Eu multiplicarei grandemente o teu sofrimento e a tua concepção. Com sofrimento terás filhos; e o teu desejo será para o teu marido, e ele governará sobre ti.
17 And unto Adam He said: 'Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying: Thou shalt not eat of it; cursed is the ground for thy sake; in toil shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.
17 E a Adão ele disse: Porque tu escutaste a voz de tua mulher, e comeste da árvore, da qual eu te ordenei dizendo: Tu não comerás dela, amaldiçoada é a terra por tua causa; com sofrimento tu comerás dela todos os dias da tua vida.
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field.
18 Espinhos e cardos também produzirá para ti; e comerás a erva do campo;
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken; for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.'
19 no suor da tua face comerás o pão, até que retornes à terra, pois dela tu foste tirado; porque pó tu és, e ao pó tu retornarás.
20 And the man called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
20 E Adão chamou o nome de sua mulher Eva, porque ela foi a mãe de todos os viventes.
21 And the LORD God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins, and clothed them.
21 Para Adão e também para sua mulher o SENHOR Deus fez vestes de pele, e os vestiu.
22 And the LORD God said: 'Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever.'
22 E o SENHOR Deus disse: Eis que o homem se tornou como um de nós, para conhecer o bem e o mal; e agora, para que ele não estenda sua mão, e tome também da árvore da vida, e coma, e viva para sempre;
23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
23 o SENHOR Deus, portanto, o lançou fora do jardim do Éden, para cultivar a terra da qual fora tomado.
24 So He drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the garden of Eden the cherubim, and the flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way to the tree of life.
24 Assim ele expulsou o homem, e colocou no leste do jardim do Éden querubins, e uma espada flamejante, que se voltava a todos os lados para guardar o caminho para a árvore da vida.
